Isocyanate-reactive composition that include a polyol blend, a blowing agent composition, and a catalyst. The polyol blend includes a polyether polyol having a functionality of 2 to 6 and an OH number of 20 to 50 mg KOH/g, which is present in an amount of at least 30% by weight, based on total weight of the isocyanate-reactive composition, and an aromatic polyester polyol having a functionality of 1.5 to 3 and an OH number of 150 to 450 mg KOH/g, which is present in an amount of at least 40% by weight, based on total weight of the isocyanate-reactive composition. The blowing agent composition includes water, the water being present in an amount of 1 to 20% by weight, based on total weight of the isocyanate-reactive composition and in an amount of at least 90% by weight, based on total weight of the blowing agent composition. The isocyanate-reaction composition has a green content of at least 30% by weight, based on total weight of the isocyanate-reactive composition. Disclosed are coated particles. The coated particles include substrate particles and a coating disposed over at least a portion of the substrate particles. The coating includes a condensation reaction product of a reaction mixture that includes a liquid isocyanate-functional component and an isocyanate-reactive composition. Disclosed are free-flowing particles. These free-flowing particles include: (a) a rubber particle, and (b) a coating deposited over at least a portion of the rubber particle, wherein the coating includes: (1) a polyurethane-urea resin that is a reaction product of a reaction mixture comprising: (i) a polyol having a number average molecular weight of 1800 to 12,000; (ii) an aromatic diamine; (iii) a polyisocyanate; and (iv) a catalyst for the reaction between hydroxyl groups and isocyanate groups; and (2) a solid particle anti-clumping agent. Also disclosed are methods of making and using such free-flowing particles and synthetic turf structures that include an infill of such free-flowing particles.

Free-flowing coated rubber particles, methods for their production and use

This invention relates to fire-resistant, flexible, molded, medium density polyurethane foams. These foams typically have a density of from 10 to 30 pcf. The foams are the reaction product of a) at least one polyester polyol, b) at least one highly branched polyether polyol, c) at least one chain extender, d) a polymethylene poly(phenyl isocyanate), an isocyanate group containing prepolymer based on a polymethylene poly(phenyl isocyanate), or mixtures thereof, e) a solid flame retardant and f) water. This invention also relates to a process for preparing these polyurethane foams in open molds.

The present invention provides a rigid polyurethane foam comprising the reaction product, at an isocyanate index of from about 90 to about 400, of a polyisocyanate and a polyol component comprising, about 20 wt. % to about 80 wt. %, based on the weight of the polyol component, of a double metal cyanide (DMC)-catalyzed polyether polyol having a number average molecular weight of greater than about 1,000 Daltons (Da), about 80 wt. % to about 20 wt. %, based on the weight of the polyol component, of a sucrose-based polyol having a functionality of from about 2.5 to about 6 and a number average molecular weight of from about 350 Da to less than about 1,000 Da, and about 0 wt. % to about 40 wt. %, based on the weight of the polyol component, of a low molecular weight organic compound having a number average molecular weight of less than about 600 Da in the presence of water, polyvinylchloride (PVC) particles having a diameter of from about 0.1 microns to about 200 microns, glass beads having a diameter of from about 40 microns to about 400 microns, and about 1 wt. % to about 30 wt. %, based on the weight of the polyol component, of expanded graphite, optionally, in the presence of at least one of carbon dioxide, surfactants, flame retardants other than expanded graphite, crosslinking agents, pigments and catalysts, wherein the rigid polyurethane foam with a density of about 10 pcf to about 25 pcf has a heat sag measured at 102 mm overhang at 121&#xb0; C. and one hour of less than about 5 mm and an average after-glow time of less than about 35 seconds. The inventive rigid polyurethane foams exhibit improved burn properties and reduced after-glow while maintaining improved heat sag performance over commercial materials.

The present invention provides a rigid polyurethane foam made from the reaction product, at an isocyanate index of from about 90 to about 400, of a polyisocyanate, and a polyol component containing about 20 to about 80 wt. %, based on the weight of the polyol component, of a double metal cyanide (DMC)-catalyzed polyether polyol having a number average molecular weight of greater than about 1000 Daltons (Da), about 80 to about 20 wt. %, based on the weight of the polyol component, of a sucrose-based polyol having a functionality of from about 2.5 to about 6 and a molecular weight of from about 350 to less than about 1,000, and about 0 to about 40 wt. %, based on the weight of the polyol component, of a low molecular weight organic compound having a number average molecular weight of less than about 600 Da, in the presence of water, polyvinylchloride (PVC) particles having a diameter of from about 0.1 to about 200 microns, and glass beads having a diameter of from about 40 to about 400 microns (about 270 to about 45 mesh), and optionally, in the presence of at least one of carbon dioxide, surfactants, flame retardants, pigments and catalysts, wherein the rigid polyurethane foam with a density of about 10 to about 25 pcf has a heat sag measured at 102 mm overhang at 121&#xb0; C. and one hour of less than about 8 mm. The inventive rigid polyurethane foams exhibit increased heat performance (decreased heat sag) while also maintaining impact and rebound strengths.
