Chromate free treatments and compositions for applying a conversion or passivation coating to metal surfaces. Preferred compositions comprise a film forming latex polymer, fluoacid, phosphoric acid, and a polyoxyethylene/oxypropylene block copolymer. The requisite metal surfaces are contacted by the compositions and dried. Rinsing is optional.

Non-chrome passivation of steel

Chromate-free treatments and compositions for applying a conversion or passivation coating for metals, more particularly zinc coated metal surfaces. The methods of the invention comprise contacting the requisite metal surface with a phosphonomethylated polyamine. Other aspects of the invention involve methods and compositions in which the following optional components can be included: fluoacid, silane, inorganic phosphorus, acid, latex film forming component and pH adjustment agent.

Non-chrome metal treatment composition

The compositions comprise a polyamidoamine/epihalohydrin polymer or cationic polyamine/epihalohydrin polymer component, fluoacid, HPO, and a film forming polymer latex component. Non-chromate conversion coating treatment for metals

The present invention relates to aqueous compositions comprising component (A) which comprises at least one water-soluble component comprising at least one functional group that undergoes a crosslinking reaction, preferably upon drying and/or heating; component (B) which comprises at least one film-forming material, preferably a latex material; and component (C) which comprises at least one component that provides at least one of moisture and/or water barrier properties and/or vapor barrier properties greater than that provided by the combination of components (A) and (B) alone.

Compositions for imparting desired properties to materials

The present invention relates to aqueous compositions comprising component (A) which comprises at least one water-soluble component comprising at least one functional group that undergoes a crosslinking reaction, preferably upon drying and/or heating; and component (B) which comprises at least one film-forming material. In particular the composition is a coating composition comprises: (A) at least one polyamidoamine-epihalohydrin resin; and (B) at least one material selected from flexibilizing materials, crosslink inhibiters and combinations thereof in an amount sufficient to impart a cuttability value of less than about 15 to a substrate coated with the coating composition. Component (B) is preferably at least one polymer comprising repeating units derived from an alkyl halide having at least one double bond and an alkene, such as ethylene vinyl chloride. Coated substrates such as coated building units, such as ceiling tiles and wall boards, as well as methods of producing such coated substrates are also provided.
