The present invention is directed to a biaxially oriented multi-layer film which comprises: (a) a core layer comprising a syndiotactic propylene homopolymer; and (b) at least one additional layer adjacent to the core layer comprising a polymer which is an ethylene or a propylene homopolymer, ethylene copolymer or terpolymer containing comonomers of propylene and/or butene-1. Optionally, there can be a skin layer applied to the exposed surface of the outer layer. The skin layer and/or the at least one additional layer is a polyolefin selected from the group consisting of isotactic polypropylene, polyethylene, ethylene-propylene random copolymer, ethylene-propylene block copolymer or ethylene-propylene-butene-1 terpolymer.

A breathable, elastic film including a high performance elastomer, such as a styrenic copolymer, and a low performance elastomer, such as a polyolefin, filled with a plurality of particles suitable for forming pores in the film upon stretch-thinning of the film, the film having been stretch-thinned, whereby the low performance elastomer portion of the film forms a plurality of micropores. Also disclosed are laminates employing this breathable, elastic film.

A one-step method of imparting breathability and elasticity to a film includes coextruding elastic fibers within a matrix of a filled, semi-rigid film structure. Once the elastic fibers are within the film structure, the film can be stretched to impart breathability, while the elastic fibers provide elasticity. Furthermore, the elastic fibers can include an absorbent material. The resulting breathable, elastic film is particularly useful in diapers and other personal care products.

Multi-layer barrier film

An insulation assembly includes an elongated batt of fibrous insulation material having two opposed major surfaces, where the batt has a first facing secured on its first major surface. The first facing extends beyond the side edges of the batt to form opposed flanges suitable for attaching the insulation assembly to a building structure. The batt has a second facing secured on its second major surface, with the second facing extending beyond the side edges of the batt to form opposed flanges suitable for attaching the insulation assembly to a building structure. The method of making an insulation assembly includes moving a pack of fibrous insulation material along a path, where the fibrous insulation material has two opposed major surfaces. A continuous encapsulation material is applied to the pack, and a portion of the encapsulation material is continuously gathered to form a two part fold. The two parts of the fold are bonded together to form a flange suitable for attaching the insulation assembly to a building structure.

Multi-layer films with syndiotactic barrier layer containing a wax

A multi layer film having enhanced barrier properties with respect to oxygen and water vapor transmission is provided. The multi layer film includes a polyolefin core layer, a copolymer or terpolymer intermediate layer on at least one surface of the polyolefin core layer, with the intermediate layer having voids therein and including a wax trapped within the voids, and a surface layer on the intermediate layer. Multi layer films according to the present invention are particularly useful as packaging films for food products, and are successful in laminating, printing or coating operations.

A vacuum packaged conformable insulation assembly may be installed in a cavity before the vacuum in the insulation assembly is released. The insulation assembly includes a compressible batt of mineral fibers such as fibrous glass wool. During manufacture, the batt is encased in a gas-impervious envelope. The envelope is vacuum-sealed to retain the batt in a compressed state. The envelope may be provided with opening structures for selectively releasing the vacuum in the envelope. The envelope is sufficiently large to permit the batt contained therein to fully recover when the vacuum is released. According to a method of the present invention, the envelope is placed in a cavity to be insulated, and then the envelope is ruptured to allow the batt to expand to cause the insulation assembly to conform to the cavity.

An insulation assembly includes an elongated batt of fibrous insulation material having a top end and a bottom end, and a facing secured on a major surface. The facing is secured to the major surface by a series of spaced apart adhesive ribbons, wherein the adhesive ribbons are oriented generally transversely of the insulation assembly, and are nonlinear in a generally downwardly-oriented concave shape.

A tamper-evident film includes a hydrocarbon polymer core layer (a) having an upper face and a lower face; an oriented tamper-evident layer applied to at least the lower face of core layer (a), layer (b) being fabricated from a mixture of a polyolefin and a filler of particles which induce cavitation upon orientation, layer (b) having an internal cohesiveness which is less than the internal cohesiveness and bonding strength of packaging adhesives and heat seals; and, an oriented skin layer (c) applied to the upper face of core layer (a) if layer (b) has not been applied thereon, layer (c) being hydrocarbon polymer. A tamper-evident package seal and package are also provided.
