A method for acquiring document images with a paper feed scanner. The paper feed scanner includes a scanning module for scanning a document at a scanning position, a motor for driving the document, and a memory for storing image data. The method includes turning the motor to feed the document toward a scanning position; the scanning module starting scanning before the document reaches the scanning position; and detecting an edge of the document according to an image generated by the scanning module, and starting or stopping storing image data generated by the scanning module into the memory when detecting the edge of the document.

Using a reference pattern of the invention, discontinuous images caused by inadequate memory can be merged precisely. The reference pattern can be applied to both the flat bed scanner and the Automatic Document Feed (ADF) scanner.

A scanning device which is connected to a projector for displaying the scanned images. The scanning module scans documents and the scanned images are processed by a CPU controlled by the user interface. Thus, the signal process unit, memory and output unit can be activated. The scanned images are processed by the signal process unit, the memory, and a video buffer. Then, the scanned images are transferred to a projector via the output unit. The connection between the projector and the scanner is simplified and convenient for the users.

A scanner with an output port connected to a printer or a storage device. The scanner includes a casing, a scanning module installed inside the casing for scanning a document and generating corresponding image data, a control unit installed in the casing for controlling the operations of the scanner, and an output port electrically connected to the control unit for connecting to an external printer or a portable storage device. When the scanning module finishes scanning a document, the control unit transmits the image data of the document to the storage device or to the printer for printing according to the type of device connected to the output port.

A scanner with scan-starting device comprises a housing, a carriage and a scan-starting device. The carriage is movable inside the housing whereas the scan-starting device further comprises a key section and a trigger section. Besides, the key section is situated on the housing whereas the trigger section is on the circuit board of the carriage. The trigger section generates a triggering signal to start the scanner to proceed scanning when the user presses the key section to touch the trigger section. The scanner according to the invention reduces the hardware space occupied by cables and circuit boards, therefore, lowers down manufacturing costs.

A duplex scanner capable of calibrating the two-sided documents comprises an automatic document feeder (ADF), an upper carriage and an upper calibration paper. The upper carriage is installed in the ADF and the upper calibration paper is installed under the upper carriage. Alternatively, the upper carriage is movable installed in the ADF while the upper calibration paper is fixed in the duplex scanner and corresponding to the upper carriage. Before image scanning, the relative motion between the upper carriage and the first calibration paper is generated for calibrating the light beam information. According to the invention, the effects of the contaminated upper calibration paper for the calibration of the light beam information can be reduced, and the quality of the scanning image is greatly enhanced.

Duplex scanner capable of calibrating two-sided documents

A method for controlling a charge-coupled device (CCD) sensing module. The CCD sensing module includes photosensors divided into two sets of photosensors including a first set of photosensors and a second set of photosensors. First, the first set of photosensors and the second set of photosensors are exposed, and first signal charges obtained from the first set of photosensors and second signal charges obtained from the second set of photosensors are stored into a CCD shift register unit. Then, the first signal charges and the second signal charges stored in the CCD shift register unit are sequentially shifted to a charge receiving unit and an image signal corresponding to the first signal charges is acquired. After that, the first set of photosensors and the second set of photosensors are exposed, and the first signal charges obtained from the first set of photosensors and the second signal charges obtained from the second set of photosensors are stored into the CCD shift register unit. Finally, the first signal charges and the second signal charges stored in the CCD shift register unit are shifted to the charge receiving unit and an image signal corresponding to the second signal charges is acquired.

Method for controlling a charge-coupled device sensing module

A sheet feeder capable of immediately detecting a paper jam includes a housing, a motor attached to the housing, a driving roller, a driven roller, a rotation speed detector and a control circuit. The motor drives the driving roller to rotate, and the driving roller drives the driven roller to rotate. The driven roller cooperates with the driving roller to feed a sheet therethrough. The rotation speed detector detects the rotation speed of the driven roller and outputs a rotation speed signal. The control circuit receives the rotation speed signal to judge whether or not a paper jam occurs according to the rotation speed signal.

An image preprocessing apparatus, which processes image signals of an image of a scanned object, includes an image sensing module, a multiplexing unit and an analog signal processor. The image sensing module includes a number of monochrome image sensors, as well as a black-and-white (B/W) image sensor, outputting a number of monochrome analog image signals and a B/W analog image signal respectively. The multiplexing unit receives the B/W analog image signal and some of the monochrome analog image signals and then selects either the B/W analog image signal or these monochrome analog image signals as the output of the multiplexing unit. The analog signal processor receives the output of the multiplexing unit and the monochrome analog image signals that are not received by the multiplexing unit, and outputs a digital signal.

Image sensing module outputting color signals or monochrome signals depending on mode of operation

The present invention provides an optical scanner that adjusts the image-induced voltage by controlling the exposure time of the sensors. The optical scanner comprises a scanning module comprising a plurality of color detectors for detecting light of different colors when scanning a document to generate corresponding electric charge, a cathode-ray tube for providing light to the document, a power supply for supplying power to the cathode-ray tube, and a control circuit for controlling operations of the optical scanner and the power supply. The control circuit controls an exposure time of each of the color detectors according to the sensitivity of the color detector to its corresponding color of light so that the amount of electric charge generated by each of the color detectors during each exposure is controlled and properly scaled.

A method of transferring charges for a CCD image-sensing device. First, the K register elements (every k register elements) are defined as a charge-combining portion, thereby providing m charge-combining portions. The y image-sensing elements sense incident light energy to generate y charge packets proportional to the light intensity. Then, the y charge packets are transferred in a parallel manner to the CCD shift register. The charge packets coupled to each of the m charge-combining portions are accumulated into one specific register element when the k register elements have coupled the charge packets from the image-sensing elements, thereby generating m adding charge packets in the m charge-combining portions. Finally, each of the adding charge packets is serially delivered to the output of the CCD shift register, converting the adding charge packets into proportional voltage levels.

Method of transferring charges for a CCD image-sensing device

An improved scanner with automatic edge detection capable of quickly, accurately, and readily detecting the edges of a document or an object to be scanned. Said scanner with automatic edge detection comprises a main body, a scanning module, and an edge detector. The main body comprises a flat glass platform for supporting an object. The scanning module is installed inside the main body for scanning the image of an object placed on the flat glass platform of the scanner. The edge detector is located inside the main body to detect the edges of the object, thereby determining the size of the object before scanning. The scanner according to the present invention is capable of obtaining the correct size of the object being scanned without restricting the size of the object to match any of the fixed paper sizes in order for such scanner function as auto zooming to proceed successfully. In addition, through a microprocessor and a properly embedded computer program of a disclosed art, the scanner according to the present invention is capable of auto zooming on the scanned object without the assistance of a computer and a monitor.

Scanner with automatic edge detection

A scanning method that saves time by reducing calculations performed in a scanner. The scanner has a housing, a transparent platform installed on the housing, a document positioned on the transparent platform, a scanning module, a calibration paper, a memory, and a processor. If an effective image range has been determined within a predetermined amount of time after the scanner is turned on, the effective image range will not be redefined before scanning the document.

Time-saving calibration method of a scanner

The present invention discloses a method and structure for accelerating image-sensing speed in a CCD image-sensing device. According to the present invention, specific shift-control electrodes (G and G ) are biased to serve as a block unit. After the CCD image-sensing device serially shifts out the charge packets actually corresponding to the image of a sensed object, the CCD image-sensing device can repeat the operation for image sensing without first shifting out the remaining or undesired charge packets, thereby accelerating image-sensing speed.
