An aircraft passenger seat has a seat back including a lower portion pivotably mounted to a seat bottom and an upper portion rotatably coupled to the lower portion. The upper portion may rotate in a forward direction relative to the lower portion during articulation of the seat. An inner diaphragm may be positioned between a headrest and a set of side frame members of the upper portion and is rotatably coupled to the upper portion and lower portion to provide support for an upper back and shoulders of a seated passenger. An actuating assembly may coordinate articulation of the lower portion, the upper portion, and the inner diaphragm to permit articulation of the seat between an upright taxi takeoff and landing (TTOL) position and a reclined position and to enable the seated passenger to achieve more ergonomic postures.

In a preferred embodiment, an adjustable aircraft passenger seat includes a seat bottom; a legrest moveably connected to the seat bottom that articulates between a legrest vertical and a legrest horizontal positions; a lower seatback moveably connected to the seat bottom to be articulated between a lower seatback vertical and a lower seatback horizontal positions; and an upper seatback moveably connected to the lower seatback to be articulated between an upper seatback vertical and an upper seatback horizontal positions. The articulation of the legrest, the articulation of the lower seat back, and the articulation of the upper seatback may be configured to articulate the adjustable aircraft passenger seat from an upright sitting to a horizontal sleeping position, through an in-bed lounge sitting position.

A vehicle seat that includes a linkage assembly interconnecting a seat pan assembly, seat back assembly and leg rest assembly whereby, as the seat carriage assembly is moved aft the seat pan assembly and the seat back assembly simultaneously adjust to maintain a predetermined seating position during an initial recline motion with the leg rest assembly remaining in a retracted position below the seat pan assembly. The leg rest assembly progressively elevates into a leg-supporting position during a subsequent recline motion as the back rest assembly and seat pan assembly progressively recline towards a lie-flat configuration.

A one-piece upholstery cover that covers all the visible surfaces of a typical seat such as seatback cushion, seat pan cushion, seat pan extension cushion, leg rest cushion, and leg rest extension cushion. A seat covering system is also disclosed. The seat covering system includes a single elongated piece of upholstery having a first end and a second end and a loop portion intermediate the first and second ends. A first attachment portion is adjacent to the first end of the upholstery, and at least one spring mechanism attached to the second end. A first and second pivot member are attached to opposite sides of a seat back of a reclining chair. These first and second pivot members are also fixed to a seat pedestal while a connecting member having a first end attached to the first pivot member and a second end attached to the second pivot member extends through the loop portion of the elongated piece of upholstery.

A passenger accommodation unit with a deployable bed includes a passenger seat and a passenger bed positioned relative to the seat and adapted for movement between a stowed position in which the bed is upright and adjacent to the seat, and a deployed position in which the bed is horizontal for use and overlaps and is supported in part by the seat. The unit can include a credenza positioned adjacent the seat and between the seat and the bed that supports the bed when deployed.

A headrest support assembly capable of moving a headrest simultaneously in an up/down and fore/aft position. The headrest support assembly is located in a seat back and includes a headrest frame mounted on a support bracket, the support bracket includes a first and second guide track spaced apart from one another. Each guide track defines a substantially vertical first channel and a curved second channel therein. A first and second support pillar is mounted to the headrest frame. These first and second support pillars are located adjacent to the first and second guide track, respectively. A first and second guide roller is located on each of the first and second support pillars. The first guide roller is positioned within the first channel and the second guide roller is positioned within the second channel of the respective guide tracks.

A passenger accommodation unit with deployable bed, including a passenger seat and a passenger bed positioned relative to the seat and adapted for movement between a stowed position wherein the bed is upright and adjacent to the seat, and a deployed position wherein the bed is horizontal for use and overlaps and is supported in part by the seat. The unit includes a credenza positioned adjacent the seat and between the seat and the bed that supports the bed when deployed.

A reclining passenger seat, including a seat frame for being attached to a supporting deck, a seat bottom carried by the seat frame, and a seat back carried by the seat frame and moveable with the seat bottom from and between the upright and sleep positions. A legrest assembly is mounted adjacent a forward end of the seat bottom for being selectively extended generally downwardly and outwardly from the seat bottom for supporting the legs of the passenger. An armrest assembly is carried by the seat frame and includes an armrest moveable between a horizontal position with an upper support surface supporting a forearm of the seat occupant in the upright seat position and a forwardly-inclined, lowered position wherein the upper support surface is aligned with an upper surface of the seat bottom for providing a wider sleeping surface for the seat occupant when the seat is in the fully-reclined sleep position.

Aircraft sleeper seat

A sleeper seating unit for an aircraft, and including a primary seat having a seat frame for being stationarily-mounted to the aircraft deck, a seat back for being selectively moved by a seat occupant among fully upright, semi-reclined and fully reclined positions, a scat bottom for moving between retracted and extended positions in coordination with the seat back, and an ottoman for being positioned on the deck forward of the primary seat. The ottoman has a top cushion positioned on a top surface thereof and a leg rest cushion positioned on a side of the ottoman facing the primary seat. The leg rest cushion is movable between positions wherein when the primary seat is in an upright position, the leg rest cushion is positioned at an angle to engage and support the bottom of the feet, and when the primary seat is in a reclined position, the leg rest cushion is in a generally horizontal position adjacent to and forming an extension of the seat bottom.

Passenger sleeper seat

A passenger seat configuration for an aircraft cabin having a fuselage wall with windows therein and an aisle for permitting movement within the cabin. The configuration includes an outboard seating unit for being positioned adjacent the fuselage wall of the aircraft, the outboard seating unit having a primary scat formed of a seat back and seat bottom, and a forwardly spaced-apart ottoman movable with respect to each other to define upright, semi-reclined and fully reclined positions. An inboard seating unit is provided for being positioned adjacent the at least one aisle and between the inboard seating unit and the aisle, the inboard seating unit having a primary seat formed of a seat back and a seat bottom, and a forwardly spaced-apart, free-standing ottoman movable with respect to each other to define upright, semi-reclined and fully reclined positions, the primary seat and ottoman of the inboard seating unit being positioned aft of the primary seat and ottoman of the outboard seating unit. The ottoman of the outboard seating unit and the ottoman of the inboard seating unit are independently movable relative to each other whereby the outboard ottoman is movable to a position relative to any position of the inboard ottoman to thereby provide space between the inboard ottoman and outboard ottoman for the outboard passenger to ingress to and egress from the outboard primary seat between the inboard ottoman and outboard ottoman and forward of the inboard ottoman to the aisle.

Aircraft seat assembly

A passenger seat assembly convertible between a two-seat configuration and a three-seat configuration, including a seat assembly base and first, second and third seats for carrying respective seat bottom and seat back cushions. The first and third seats defining outboard seats are moveable on the seat assembly base and the second seat defines a center seat carried in a fixed position on the seat assembly base. A gear drive is carried by the seat assembly base and interconnects the first and third seats for simultaneous movement relative to each other and to the second seat. The first and third seats move towards each other into the two-seat configuration wherein the first and third seats encroach upon the second seat and define a dead zone between the first and third seat. The first and third seats are moveable away from each other into the three-seat configuration wherein the second seat defines a center seat having the same seating width as the first and third seats. In an alternative embodiment, the gear drive connects only to the first seat, and the third seat is moved manually.
