A hermetically-sealed valve position indicator is provided with a valve control handwheel. Indicator includes a magnetic-coupling with a stationary mount for the valve control handwheel. During operation of valve control handwheel, its handwheel and shaft rotate along with a housing, housing cover, housing window, primary shaft, and drive gear about the actuator's central axis of rotation&#x2014;clockwise or counterclockwise. Drive gear engages with drive train to rotate a needle across a dial face to indicate the position of a valve. Drive train includes two gears rotatably attached to a secondary shaft and an indicator gear attached to a back end of sleeve slid over a front portion of primary shaft. The needle is disposed on the front end of sleeve with the dial face positioned between the indicator gear and the needle.

A coupling device for an adapter connection point, including a first fitting and a second fitting, wherein at least one of the first and the second fittings includes at least one channel, and wherein when a user begins to disengage the coupling device any trapped pressure will be relieved through the at least one channel prior to total disengagement of the coupling device.

A fire truck water connection cap, which has an insert installed on the outside that displays a variety of different artwork forms. It is customizable for the individual fire department. The means of retention allows for the &ldquo;upright&rdquo; placement of the insert regardless of orientation of the cap when it is tight to the pump inlet. The use of an elastomeric spring presses the insert against a retention ring which holds it in place after it is rotated to the correct position. The cap also uses grips on the ends of the handles to resist a firefighter's hands or a soft mallet from slipping off the end.

A pump primer for a pump on a fire truck uses a high-speed compressed air in a venturi in a compressed air chamber to generate a vacuum in a vacuum chamber to prime a pump, with an integral valve which separates the pump from the priming ejectors (venturis), the valve being opened by the compressed air when the primer is activated, the valve being closed by a spring return when the compressed air supply is removed, where water drawn in through the primer is freely drained by gravity to prevent freezing in cold weather.

Compressed air powered pump priming system

The present invention provides new compressed air foam systems for use as firefighting equipment. One compressed air foam system has a water inlet connected to a water flow path through the compressed air foam system. A water and foam chemical mixer is flow connected to the water inlet and has a foam chemical inlet and a water/foam chemical outlet. An air compressor is provided which has an air inlet, an air outlet, and an air flow controller at the air inlet. A foam mixer is flow connected to the water/foam chemical outlet of the water and foam chemical mixer and to the air outlet of the air compressor. The foam mixer has a foam outlet which provides firefighting foam to a fireman's hose for application to a fire. A control system has a sensor in sensing relationship with the water flow path through the compressed air foam system for sensing water flow. The control system is operatively connected to the air flow controller of the air inlet to the air compressor to the amount of air provided to the water/foam chemical mixture by restricting inflowing air into the air compressor.

Compressed air foam systems

A balanced pressure proportioning system for injecting firefighting foam concentrate into a stream of water is provided. The system includes a primary conduit having a central and a spring-biased piston disposed immediately downstream of the restriction. Foam is supplied to the conduit from a chamber which is in communication with the conduit through a foam passageway at a point disposed immediately downstream of the restriction. The chamber is divided into a foam section and into a water section by a diaphragm or other suitable member. The water section of the chamber is maintained at the upstream water pressure by way of a water passageway which provides communication between the water section and the conduit at a point disposed upstream of the restriction. Pressure is communicated from the water section of the chamber to the foam section of the chamber by the diaphragm or other suitable movable member. Movement of the diaphragm also activates or deactivates a foam pump which supplies additional foam concentrate to the foam section of the chamber. Accurate proportioning is further achieved by the employment of an adjustable metering valve disposed between the foam chamber and the primary conduit. The geometry of the piston or check valve and the interior of the primary conduit further contributes to the accurate proportioning of the system.

A thermal relief valve is constructed and arranged to sense the fluid temperature of a pump and to open when this fluid temperature becomes too high to discharge pump fluid to prevent the occurrence of an excessive temperature condition of the pump fluid.

An engine for a portable engine-pump assembly is designed to operate on a safe fuel such as JP5 or DFM. The engine is started by a starting fuel such as propane which is supplied to the engine from a pressurized propane-containing cartridge. The propane starting system uses a puncturing device which has a built-in check valve function to isolate the propane system from moisture and contaminants in the air.

Portable engine-pump assembly

A spark ignition engine device adapted for use with a pump. The engine is mounted on a mounting structure. The engine has a magneto flywheel for generating an ignition current and a high-voltage ignition coil means electrically connected by a first conductive wire means to the magneto. A conductive shield covers the first wire means and is grounded. The spark plugs are electrically connected by a second conductive wires means to the coil to deliver a high-voltage spark to the engine. The second wire means is also covered by a conductive shield covering and the shield is grounded. A control box is provided and grounded to the mounting structure. The control box is positioned to enclose the coil means and to receive the shielded first wire means. The box has a capacitor means grounded to the box and connected to said shielded first wires to prevent reverse flow of EMI to the magneto.
