Systems and methods are disclosed for recovering both phase and amplitude of an arbitrary sample in an optical microscope from a single image, using patterned partially coherent illumination. This is realized through the use of a encoded light source which embeds several different illumination patterns into color channels. The sample is modulated by each illumination wavelength separately and independently of each other, but all of the channels are sensed by the imaging device in a single step. This color image contains information about the phase and amplitude of a sample encoded in each channel, and can be used to recover both amplitude and phase from this single image, at the incoherent resolution limit. Further, extensions of this method are shown which allow the same recovery of a sample whilst it is moving during a single exposure using a motion deblurring algorithm.

Optical phase retrieval systems using color-multiplexed illumination

A storage system that is configured to fairly service requests from different host systems particularly in congested situations. To balance the processing of tasks between different clients, the system sorts tasks received from different clients into task lists. In particular, the system sorts the incoming tasks based on the ITL (Initiator, Target, LU) nexus information associated with each task. In some instances, a new task list is created for each ITL nexus. The sorting of tasks may provide for a more even distribution of tasks and thus a more fair processing of tasks. More specifically, because tasks from each list are processed in round-robin fashion, tasks arriving from even the slowest clients are given a substantially equal chance of being processed as the tasks arriving from the faster clients.

Apparatus, system and method for providing fairness in task servicing

A method for creating a nanostructure according to one embodiment includes depositing material in a template for forming an array of nanocables; removing only a portion of the template such that the template forms an insulating layer between the nanocables; and forming at least one layer over the nanocables. A nanostructure according to one embodiment includes a nanocable having a roughened outer surface and a solid core. A nanostructure according to one embodiment includes an array of nanocables each having a roughened outer surface and a solid core, the roughened outer surface including reflective cavities; and at least one layer formed over the roughened outer surfaces of the nanocables, the at least one layer creating a photovoltaically active p-n junction. Additional systems and methods are also presented.

Methods for forming nanostructures and photovoltaic cells implementing same

A method for forming a nanostructure according to one embodiment includes creating a hole in an insulating layer positioned over an electrically conductive layer; and forming a nanocable in the hole such that the nanocable extends through the hole in the insulating layer and protrudes therefrom, the nanocable being in communication with the electrically conductive layer. Additional systems and methods are also presented.

An Ethernet switch for use in an Ethernet network comprises a set of ingress ports for receiving data frames and a set of egress ports. A memory is associated with each ingress port and stores forwarding information indicating one or more of the egress ports to which data frames received by that ingress port should be forwarded. A control or management interface receives information about a network connection established, or to be established, through the switch. A switch controller causes forwarding information to be stored in a memory associated with a first ingress port which the network connection will use, on the basis of the received information about a network connection. Forwarding information is not stored in a memory associated with a second of the set of ingress ports which the network connection will not use. Preferably, the switch controller causes forwarding information to be stored only in a memory associated with the first ingress port which the network connection will use and not to be stored in a memory associated with any of the other ingress ports.

Forwarding table minimisation in ethernet switches

A photovoltaic nanostructure according to one embodiment of the present invention includes an electrically conductive nanocable coupled to a first electrode, a second electrode extending along at least two sides of the nanocable, and a photovoltaically active p-n junction formed between the nanocable and the second electrode. A photovoltaic array according to one embodiment includes a plurality of photovoltaic nanostructures as recited above. Methods for forming nanostructures are also presented.

A network can be organized for providing virtual private network services to customers into two regions. A network core for providing layertransport and an associated number of logical provider edges. Each logical provider edge is partitioned into first and second portions. The first portion provides virtual private network services to customers. The second portion works with the core network to communicate with any other logical provider edge within the network. The first portion designated as the PE-Edge includes a group of functions such as a function for configuring optical Ethernet layervirtual private network service, a function for service labeling, a function for ingress traffic management, and a function for information exchange between local VPN and core VPN. The second portion designated as PE-Core includes a group of functions such as a function for distributing service labels, a function for distributing information on transport tunnels, a function for information exchange between local and core VPN. Within the logical provider edge or Logical PE, the PE-Edge and PE-Core communicate via a layernetwork.

A packet mapper prioritizes streams of data packets in a computer network, each data packet having a packet header containing feature values descriptive of the data packet. The packet mapper includes a mapping table that associates application-related features with network-reserved feature values from a range of feature values reserved for use by selected network data packet streams, and a feature value mapper that performs at least one of (i) in each packet header having an application-related feature value associated with a network-reserved feature value, substituting the associated network-reserved feature value for the application-related feature value, and (ii) in each packet header having a network-reserved feature value associated with an application-related feature value, substituting the associated application-related feature value for the network-reserved feature value.
