Provided are embodiments for a system and method for performing a battery health self-test protocol. The embodiments can include detecting a transport refrigeration unit (TRU) is connected to standby power, and charging the battery to a known charge level during a charge cycle. Embodiments can also include discharging the battery during a discharge cycle by coupling the battery to a battery test resistor, and calculating battery health assessment information for the battery.

A cargo () detection system for a refrigerated cargo container () includes a cargo sensor () body configured to detect presence of cargo () in a refrigerated cargo container () and a sensor bracket () configured for securing the cargo sensor () body at a refrigeration unit () of the refrigerated cargo container (). A temperature sensor () is located at the cargo sensor () body and is configured to detect a temperature of the cargo sensor () body. A temperature controller () is operably connected to the temperature sensor () and is configured to activate the cargo sensor () body for collection of data when the temperature of the cargo sensor () body is above a threshold.

Refrigerant leak detection system

Embodiments are provided for a system configured to provide pre-trip sequence and diagnostics for refrigerant leak sensor. The system includes a sensor, a fan, and a controller. The controller is further configured to validate an operation of the sensor, operate the fan based at least in part on validating the operation of the sensor, and responsive to operating the fan, determine if a leak is present using the sensor. The controller is also configured to perform a refrigeration test, determine if a leak is present using the sensor, and provide an alarm based at least in part on determining the leak is present. A system for testing a particulate filter system includes a filter controller connected to the particulate filter system and a vehicular computer configured to determine at least one engine condition. The filter controller is configured to control a condition of a component of the particulate filter system and the vehicular computer is operatively connected to the filter controller to communicate therewith. The vehicular computer compares the condition of the component of the particulate filter system with the engine condition to determine whether the component of the particulate filter system is functioning properly.

Particulate filter test system and method

A unit, such as a transport refrigeration unit, may include a plurality of components arranged in multiple stages. At least a portion of the componentsmay be arranged in a serial or parallel manner. A position associated with the plurality of components may be selected to control a load on a power source, such as an engine. For example, a position for each of the components may be selected so as to maximize a delivery of available power from the power source to the unit. In some embodiments, one or more controllersmay measure a parameter associated with the power source and select a position for one or more of the components. In some embodiments, an economized refrigeration cycle may be used. Capacity may be staged from a single stage compression cycle or mode to a multistage compression cycle or mode, with a corresponding increase in capacity via subcooling.

The performance of a transport refrigeration system () having a transport refrigeration unit powered by a diesel engine is optimized by matching a capacity output of the transport refrigeration unit to an available shaft power of the diesel engine. The power consumption of the transport refrigeration may be controlled by selectively limiting refrigerant mass flow through the refrigerant circuit of the transport refrigeration unit in response to an operating engine load and an operating speed of the diesel engine.

The refrigeration unit of an electrically powered trailer refrigeration system includes an economized scroll compressor and an economizer circuit selectively operable to inject refrigeration vapor into an intermediate stage of the scroll compressor. An engine driven generator produces AC current to power the scroll compressor and other electric components of the system. During operation of the refrigeration system at high capacity demand, a controller will operate the refrigeration system in an economized mode if sufficient electric power is available from the generator and in the non-economized mode if insufficient power is available to sustain operation of the refrigeration system in the economized mode.
