A machine is provided. The machine has a forward direction of travel and includes a frame, at least one lift arm, a first torsion axle assembly, an undercarriage, and an endless track. The lift arm is pivotally attached to the frame. The first torsion axle assembly is attached to the frame and includes a first torsion arm, a first torsion shaft, and a first axle, with the first torsion shaft and the first axle extending from the first torsion arm. The undercarriage is attached to the first torsion axle assembly and the endless track encircles the undercarriage. One of the first torsion shaft and the first axle is attached to the frame and the other of the first torsion shaft and the first axle is attached to the undercarriage. The first torsion arm extends upward from the frame at an angle between 90 and 180 degrees from the forward direction of travel.

Suspension for a machine

A suspension system for a machine is disclosed. The suspension system may have a front torsion axle assembly with a first arm connected at a first end to a first shaft, and a first axle connected to a second end of the first arm. The suspension system may also have a rear torsion axle assembly with a second arm connected at a first end to a second shaft, and a second axle connected to a second end of the second arm. The suspension system may further have a frame connected to an end of the first shaft and an end of the second shaft. The second ends of the first and second arms are oriented within common angular quadrants defined by a coordinate system having an axis passing through the first ends of the first and second arms and aligned with a travel direction of the machine.

Machine suspension system having torsion axle assemblies

A method and apparatus of a work machine wherein an operator traverses the work machine within an operator selected speed range. The operator positions a speed-range control device to select the operator selected speed range, thus, sending a speed-range signal from the speed-range control device to an electronic control module indicative of the position of the speed-range control device. The speed-range signal is converted to a scaling factor to re-calibrate at least one drive map indicative of the scaling factor. The operator then may position a control device to traverse the work machine within the operator selected speed range.

Method and apparatus for controlling the speed ranges of a machine

A method of flowing hydraulic fluid in a work machine is disclosed. The method includes generating a control signal from an input mechanism and generating a property signal indicative of a viscosity of the hydraulic fluid. The control signal and the property signal are received at a control module. The method also includes determining a desired volume flow rate for the control signal and determining a valve control signal required to achieve the desired volume flow rate for the control signal. The valve control signal is based upon the property signal. The valve control signal is output to a proportional valve to provide the desired volume flow rate through the valve for the command signal.

System and method for controlling hydraulic fluid flow

A variable position detent mechanism for latching a control lever at an infinite number of operating positions includes a semi-circular member connected to a support so that its axis coincides with the pivot of the control lever. A pair of electric detent coils are connected to the lever at a location adjacent the semi-circular member so that when the detent coils are energized they operate co-axially sandwiching the semi-circular member securing the lever with respect to the semi-circular member.

Method and apparatus for selectively tensioning an endless, inextensible elastomeric belt entrained about a cooperating drive structure and idler structure having respective axes of rotation. A roller frame joined to a vehicular main frame supports the idler structure and constrains movement thereof to a longitudinal recoil path. The drive and idler structures are biasingly separated by a compression spring which exerts biasing force thereon in opposite longitudinal directions through a drive strut and an idler strut, respectively. The idler strut is connected to the idler structure longitudinally in front of the idler's axis. The length of one of the struts is adjustable to provide the desired tension in the spring and, thus, the entraining belt. Increases in tension are preferably provided by displacing one component member of the one strut relative to a second component member thereof-one of such members being reciprocatably receivable in the other and provided with a seal therebetween such that the two members cooperatively define a pressurizable chamber. Pressurized fluid, when transmitted into the pressurizable chamber, provides relative longitudinal displacement of the two members so as to decrease the spring and belt tension. A locking assembly threadably engaged with one of the members is rotated until it abuts the other member and permits the fluid pressure to be reduced while maintaining the length of such adjustable strut.
