A system and method for the pyrolysis of a pyrolysis feedstock utilizes a pyrolysis reactor having a pyrolysis conduit and a solids return conduit segment. Each segment is configured with an outlet and an inlet to receive and discharge solid materials that are circulated through the reactor through the different segments. A solids conveyor is disposed within the pyrolysis conduit segment to facilitate conveying solid materials from the solids inlet upward through the pyrolysis conduit segment toward the solids discharge outlet. A pyrolysis feedstock is introduced into the pyrolysis reactor and at least a portion of the feedstock is converted to pyrolysis gases within the pyrolysis conduit segment, which are discharged through a gas outlet. An eductor condenser unit with an eductor assembly having a venturi-restricted flow path for receives a pressurized coolant fluid. A second flow path for receiving the discharged pyrolysis gases intersects the venturi-restricted flow path so that the received pyrolysis gases are combined with the coolant fluid and are discharged together to a mixing chamber that is used to condense pyrolysis gases.

Pyrolysis reactor system and method

A method of treating non-petroleum or renewable feedstock containing lignins is carried out by introducing a lignin-containing feedstock into a reactor at a flow velocity of from 20 ft/sec to 100 ft/sec. The feedstock is heated within the reactor to a temperature of from 700° F. to 1100° F. to convert the lignin-containing feedstock into a reactor product. The reactor product is cooled to form a cooled reactor product. At least one of gases, metals, and water are separated and removed from the cooled reactor product to form a final product. The final product has a lignin content that is reduced by 10% to 100% by weight of the initial lignin incorporated into the feedstock.

Sustainable diesel production from lignins

A system for treating non-petroleum or renewable feedstocks comprises a reactor having a heat source for heating an interior of the reactor. The reactor receives a feedstock of a non-petroleum or renewable feedstock containing oxygen or contaminants at certain conditions to form a reactor product having gums and resins of the feedstock removed and/or reduced. A first heat exchanger cools at least a portion of the reactor product to a reduced temperature to form a reduced-temperature reactor product. A hydroprocessing reactor receives at least a portion of the reduced-temperature reactor product to form a hydroprocessed product. A second heat exchanger receives the hydroprocessed product to cool the hydroprocessed product to a temperature of 250° F. or less to form a cooled hydroprocessed product. A separator is configured to separate and remove non-condensable gases, metals and water from the cooled hydroprocessed product to form liquid hydrocarbons that form a final product.

System for treating renewable feedstocks with integrated hydroprocessing

A method of hydroprocessing is performed wherein non-petroleum feedstocks, such as those containing from about 10% or more olefinic compounds or heteroatom contaminants by weight, are treated in a first reaction zone to provide reaction products. The process involves introducing the feedstock along with diluents or a recycle and hydrogen in a first reaction zone and allowing the feed and hydrogen to react in a liquid phase within the first reaction zone to produce reaction products. The reaction products are cooled and/or water is removed from the reaction products. At least a portion of the cooled and/or separated reaction product are introduced as a feed along with hydrogen into a second reaction zone containing a hydroprocessing catalyst. The feed and hydrogen are allowed to react in a liquid phase within the second reaction zone to produce a second-reaction-zone reaction product.

Process for hydroprocessing of non-petroleum feedstocks

A non-petroleum or renewable feedstock containing oxygen and contaminants of metals, gums, and resins is treated by introducing the feedstock into a reactor at a flow velocity of at least 20 ft/sec. The feedstock is heated within the reactor and cooled to form a reduced-temperature reactor product. At least a portion of the reduced-temperature reactor product is feed into a hydroprocessing reactor containing a hydroprocessing catalyst to form a hydroprocessed product. The hydroprocessed product is cooled and non-condensable gases, metals and water are separated and removed to form a final product. The final product has an oxygen content that is 60% or less of that of the feedstock, and wherein the final product comprises 25 wt % or less any triglycerides, monoglycerides, diglycerides, free fatty acids, phosphatides, sterols, tocopherols, tocotrienols, or fatty alcohols, from 5 wt % to 30 wt % naphtha, and 50 wt % or more diesel.

Method for treating renewable feedstocks

A system for the pyrolysis of a pyrolysis feedstock utilizes a pyrolysis reactor for producing pyrolysis products from the pyrolysis feedstock to be pyrolyzed. An eductor condenser unit in fluid communication with the pyrolysis reactor is used to condense pyrolysis gases. The eductor condenser unit has an eductor assembly having an eductor body that defines a first flow path with a venturi restriction disposed therein for receiving a pressurized coolant fluid and a second flow path for receiving pyrolysis gases from the pyrolysis reactor. The second flow path intersects the first flow path so that the received pyrolysis gases are combined with the coolant fluid. The eductor body has a discharge to allow the combined coolant fluid and pyrolysis gases to be discharged together from the eductor. A mixing chamber in fluid communication with the discharge of the eductor to facilitates mixing of the combined coolant fluid and pyrolysis gases, wherein at least a portion of the pyrolysis gases are condensed within the mixing chamber.

A reactor for accommodating high contaminant feedstocks includes a reactor vessel having an inlet for introducing a feedstock containing contaminants into an interior of the reactor vessel. A basket is located within the reactor vessel interior and contains a particulate material for removing contaminants from the feedstock to form a purified feedstock that is discharged to a purified feedstock outlet. A catalyst is located within the reactor vessel and in fluid communication with the purified feedstock outlet of the basket for contacting the purified feedstock to form a desired product.

Hydroprocessing reactor to lower pressure drop and extend catalyst life

A system for the pyrolysis of a pyrolysis feedstock utilizes a pyrolysis reactor for producing pyrolysis products from the pyrolysis feedstock to be pyrolyzed. An eductor condenser unit in fluid communication with the pyrolysis reactor is used to condense pyrolysis gases. The eductor condenser unit has an eductor assembly having an eductor body that defines a first flow path with a venturi restriction disposed therein for receiving a pressurized coolant fluid and a second flow path for receiving pyrolysis gases from the pyrolysis reactor The second flow path intersects the first flow path so that the received pyrolysis gases are combined with the coolant fluid. The eductor body has a discharge to allow the combined coolant fluid and pyrolysis gases to be discharged together from the eductor. A mixing chamber in fluid communication with the discharge of the eductor to facilitates mixing of the combined coolant fluid and pyrolysis gases, wherein at least a portion of the pyrolysis gases are condensed within the mixing chamber.

A system that includes a feedstock of a non-petroleum or renewable feedstock containing oxygen and contaminants of one or more of metals, gums, and resins that is introduced into the reactor at a flow velocity of from 20 ft/sec to 100 ft/sec. The feedstock is heated within the reactor to a temperature of from 700&#xb0; F. to 1100&#xb0; F. to remove and/or reduce the content of one or more of gums and resins in the fats and/or oils of the feedstock. The system further includes a reactor product that is formed in the reactor from the feedstock that has the one or more of gums and resins in the fats and/or oils of the feedstock removed and/or reduced and a heat exchanger to cool the reactor product. A separator unit separates and removes non-condensable gases, metals and water from the cooled reactor product. A final product of the system is separated from the non-condensable gases, metals and water from the cooled reactor product. The final product has an oxygen content that is 60% or less of that of the feedstock, and wherein the final product comprises 25 wt % or less of any triglycerides, monoglycerides, diglycerides, free fatty acids, phosphatides, sterols, tocopherols, tocotrienols, and fatty alcohols, from 5 wt % to 30 wt % naphtha, and 50 wt % or more diesel.

System for treating renewable feedstocks

In a method of hydroprocessing, hydrogen gas for the hydroprocessing reaction is combined with a liquid feed composition comprising a feedstock to be treated and a diluent to form a feed stream, at least a portion of the hydrogen gas being dissolved in the liquid feed composition of the feed stream, with non-dissolved hydrogen gas being present in the feed stream in an amount of from 1 to 70 SCF/bbl of the liquid feed composition. The feed stream is contacted with a hydroprocessing catalyst, within a reactor while maintaining a liquid mass flux within the reactor of at least 5000 lb/hr&#xb7;ftto form a hydroprocessed product.

Hydroprocessing method with high liquid mass flux
