A fluid filter is disclosed herein, the fluid filter having a cylindrical body with a plurality of flutes disposed around its outer circumference, a cap coupled for rotation with the body having a plurality of projections disposed to engage the plurality of flutes, wherein the plurality of projections rotate past the plurality of flutes when a torque exceeding a threshold is applied to the cap.

A method for forming a spark plug includes positioning an electrode center wire within an insulator and positioning at least one substance within the insulator and proximate the electrode center wire. The method further includes ultrasonically tamping the at least one substance to the electrode center wire.

Method of forming a spark plug

A fluid filter such as an oil filter for a vehicle is provided. The fluid filter includes a body. A plate is coupled to one end of the body, the plate having a first surface and a threaded portion having a thread pitch. A seal is disposed adjacent the plate, the plate having a second surface opposite the plate. A stop member is disposed adjacent the plate, the stop member having a third surface offset from the second surface.

A filter, comprising: a housing defining an inlet fluid opening and an outlet fluid opening, the inlet fluid opening and the outlet fluid opening defining a fluid path through the filter; a filter element disposed inside the filter housing, the filter element being disposed in the flow path such that fluid flowing through the flow path must pass through the filter element; and a dispersement device disposed within the housing, the dispersement device comprising a housing having at least one chamber for an additive disposed within the at least one chamber, the dispersement device further comprises a metering opening that is sealed with an oil soluble material the metering opening being in fluid communication with the at least one chamber when the oil soluble material is removed from the metering opening.

Additive dispersing filter and method of making

A filter is disclosed herein, the filter having: a plurality of sheets of filter media, each sheet of filter media having an inlet end and an outlet end, wherein each of the plurality of sheets of filter media has a first layer of filtration media thermoformed to have a plurality of channels, the first layer having an upper surface and a lower surface; a second layer of filtration media sonically welded to a portion of to the first layer of filtration media after the first layer is formed with the plurality of channels, wherein at least one edge of the first layer is not sonically welded to at least one edge of the second layer, and wherein the sheet of filtration media has a plurality of fluid channels each having an inlet opening at the at least one edge of the first layer and the second layer and a sealed end at another end of the sheet; wherein each of the plurality of sheets of filter media are secured together by a strip of adhesive located between each upper surface of each first layer facing the second layer of another sheet of filter media stacked upon the upper surface of the first layer of the filtration media; and wherein each of the plurality of fluid channels are also in fluid communication with at least one other of the plurality of fluid channels through an opening located between the at least one edge of the first layer and the second layer and the sealed end.

Filter and method of making

A method for dispersing an oil additive into an oil passing through a filter, the method including the steps of: filling a first cavity of an additive cartridge with an additive; locating the additive cartridge within a housing of the filter, the additive cartridge being located within a flow path through the filter, the additive cartridge having a second cavity without any additive disposed therein, the second cavity defining a first fluid path through the additive cartridge and the oil must pass through the second cavity in order to exit the filter; and metering the additive through an opening in the additive cartridge, the opening providing a second fluid path into the additive cartridge.

A method for dispersing an oil additive into an oil passing through a filter, the method comprising: filling a first cavity of an additive cartridge with an additive; locating the additive cartridge within a housing of the filter, the additive cartridge being located within a flow path through the filter, the additive cartridge having a second cavity without any additive disposed therein, the second cavity defining a first fluid path through the additive cartridge and the oil must pass through the second cavity in order to exit the filter; and metering the additive through an opening in the additive cartridge, the opening providing a second fluid path into the additive cartridge.

A filter and method of making is provided. The method comprising: forming a plurality of sheets of filter media, each sheet of filter media having an inlet end and an outlet end, wherein each of the plurality of sheets of filter media are formed by the steps of: thermoforming a first layer of filtration media to have a plurality of channels, the first layer having an upper surface and a lower surface; sonically welding a portion of a second layer of filtration media to the first layer of filtration media to form the sheet of filtration media, the sheet of filtration media having a plurality of fluid channels each having an inlet opening at one end of the sheet and a sealed end at another end of the sheet; and securing the plurality of sheets together by applying a strip of adhesive between each upper surface of each first layer facing the second layer of another sheet of filter media stacked upon the upper surface of the first layer of the filtration media.

A method of supplying an additive in an oil filter, the method including: forming a dispersement device housing with a first chamber and a second chamber, the second chamber being sealed from the first chamber by a pair of dividing walls; sealing a first metering opening with an oil soluble material the first metering opening being in fluid communication with the first chamber when the oil soluble material is removed from the first metering opening; sealing a second metering opening with an oil soluble material the second metering opening being in fluid communication with the second chamber when the oil soluble material is removed from the second metering opening; disposing a first liquid additive within the first chamber; disposing a second liquid additive within the second chamber; sealing the dispersement device housing with a cap, the cap being configured to seal the first chamber and the second chamber within the dispersement device housing; and securing the dispersement device housing to a filter element of the filter, the filter element and the dispersement device defining an outlet fluid opening, such that fluid flowing into and out of the filter must pass through the filter element and into the outlet fluid opening and the cap is located between the filter element and the dispersement device housing.

An oil-conditioning filter, for use with an internal combustion engine, includes a filter element and an additive cartridge, for gradually dispensing an oil additive over time. The additive cartridge has a beneficial oil-conditioning agent contained therein. Placement of the cartridge allows for fluid filtration through the filter element before fluid communication with the additive of the additive cartridge. An additive dispersing member is also described.

A spillage-control boot apparatus for use during removal of a spin-on fluid filter from an engine block or other substrate. The boot apparatus includes a boot with a substantially cylindrical boot body, including a flared bell portion for placement surrounding a filter, and a constricted portion integrally attached to and extending from the flared bell portion, for placement closely surrounding a portion of the filter. The flared bell portion of the boot body is adapted to form an annular pocket therein when the boot is placed surrounding a cylindrical filter. The apparatus also includes an absorbent member, for placement in the flared bell portion of the boot body, for absorbing spillage from the filter base when the filter is removed from the substrate.

Fluid containment apparatus, and method of using same

An oil-conditioning filter, for use with an internal combustion engine, includes a mechanical filter element and a central additive cartridge, for gradually dispensing an oil additive over time. The additive cartridge has a beneficial oil-conditioning agent contained therein. The additive may be provided as a solid block within a storage chamber of the cartridge, or may be a plurality of pellets. Central placement of the cartridge allows for fluid filtration through the mechanical filter element before the additive is added thereto, reducing the likelihood that the additive will be filtered out prematurely upon its initial release. An additive cartridge for installation in an oil filter is also described, including a baffle portion and a storage chamber. Alternative exemplary embodiments of the additive cartridge may include a cylindrical shell, a basket which is operatively attached to an oil filter center tube, or a porous center tube.

Additive dispensing cartridge for an oil filter, and oil filter incorporating same

A tool, for measuring a gap adjacent a curved surface of a workpiece, includes a curved tool body having a substantially C-shaped cross-section. The tool may further include a handle attached to the tool body. Preferably, the tool body has flattened top and bottom surfaces, which may be substantially parallel to one another. The tool body also includes curved front and back surfaces. The tool body has a relatively wide first end, and a second end which is narrower than the first end. The tool body tapers gradually and continuously from the first end to the second end, and becomes progressively narrower as it moves away from the first end. The tool body also gradually curves, as it moves from the first end to the second end, so that it is substantially C-shaped, as noted. The tool body has markings on at least one surface selected from the top, bottom, front and back surfaces, to indicate the thickness thereof at selected, regularly spaced apart intervals.
