A vascular network can be disposed within the rotating roll, the vascular network being configured for transporting the fluid in predetermined paths from the interior region to the exterior surface through a substantially radial path, the substantially radial path ending at an exit point of a fluid exit, wherein the exit point is associated with a sleeve exit.

Customizable apparatus and method for transporting and depositing fluids

A gravure printing system comprising a gravure cylinder having a first plurality of discrete cells disposed upon an outer surface thereof is disclosed. Each cell of said first plurality of discrete cells has a nominal diameter and is capable of receiving a fluid that is a first combination of at least two primary fluids. The fluid is fluidically displaceable through a discrete channel having a single entry point at said first position and a single exit point into a first cell of said first plurality of discrete cells. The outer surface has a metal plating disposed thereon. The metal plating reduces the nominal diameter of each cell of the first plurality of discrete cells.

Apparatus for applying indicia on web substrates

A method for delivering a High Internal Phase Emulsion to a substrate. The method includes providing a rotating roll, The rotating roll has a central longitudinal axis, wherein the rotating roll rotates about the central longitudinal axis, an exterior surface defining an interior region and substantially surrounding the central longitudinal axis, and a vascular network configured for transporting the one or more fluids in a predetermined path from the interior region to the exterior surface of the rotating roll. The method further includes providing a High Internal Phase Emulsion to the rotating roll vascular network. The method further includes contacting a substrate with the rotating roll and contacting the substrate with the High Internal Phase Emulsion.

A system for dosing one or more fluids on a substrate, the system comprising a rotating roll. The rotating roll has a central longitudinal axis, wherein the rotating roll rotates about the central longitudinal axis; an exterior surface defining an interior region and substantially surrounding the central longitudinal axis; and a vascular network configured for transporting the one or more fluids in a predetermined path from the interior region to the exterior surface of the rotating roll.

The system can include: 6 or less rotating rolls disposed in operative relationship with a substrate, wherein each of the rotating rolls can comprise a vascular network configured for transporting at least one of the 7 or more inks in a predetermined path from an interior region to an exterior surface of the rotating roll. The vascular network can have at least one main artery, at least one capillary and a plurality of fluid exits on the exterior surface. At least one capillary is attached to a main artery and is in fluid communication with at least two fluid exits through a substantially radial fluid path to form a tree.

Customizable apparatus and method for printing fluids

A method for printing 7 or more inks on a substrate. The method can include the steps of: providing a substrate; providing 7 or more inks; and providing a print system, the print system comprising 6 or less rotating rolls. Each of the 6 or less rotating rolls can be disposed in an operative relationship to transport at least one of the 7 or more inks to a vascular network in one of 6 or less rotating rolls. The method includes contacting the substrate with the at least one of the 7 or more inks.

A paper product of the present disclosure having at least one ply is disclosed. At least one outer surface of the web substrate has indicia comprising at least one ink comprising a wax or glycerine disposed therein and substantially affixed thereto. The indicia is defined by CIELab coordinate values disposed inside a boundary described by the MacAdam 3-D gamut and CIELab coordinate values disposed outside a boundary described by the Kien 3-D gamut. Alternatively, the indicia is defined by CIELab coordinate values disposed inside a boundary described by the MacAdam 2-D gamut and CIELab coordinate values disposed outside a boundary described by the Kien 2-D gamut. The indicia have a dot gain of less than 20%.
