Systems, methods, and computer readable media for managing digital media in a memory storage device associated with a mobile smart device are disclosed. According to one aspect, the subject matter described herein includes a method for configuring a rewriteable non-volatile memory for presentation of media by a selected media presentation device model. The method includes providing a rewriteable non-volatile memory configuration interface through which a user can select at least one media file and one of a plurality of media presentation device models. and providing a rewriteable non-volatile memory configuration manager, which, in response to selection of the at least one media file and the one media presentation device model via the configuration interface, accesses a database including entries corresponding to the plurality of media presentation device models and configures a rewriteable non-volatile memory according to information retrieved from the database to allow presentation of the at least one media file when the rewriteable non-volatile memory is present in the selected media presentation device model.

When recording data to optical media, data to be recorded is selected using a client application. An image mastering application programming interface is provided which is comprised of a collection of COM objects and integrated into the operating system. The plurality of COM objects includes a disc master, a file, a disc recorder, and a burn engine. The data selected for recording is sent through an application format interface to the file that is part of the image mastering application interface. The selected data in the file is recorded to optical media directly from Kernel Mode of the operating system.

Image mastering API

Methods and apparatus for the recording of data to an optical media are provided. In one example, a method includes the selection of data to be recorded by a client application. After interface with an image mastering application programming interface, the selection of an optical media format, and the selection of an optical media recording device, the selected data is sent to a stash file. A task list of operations to be performed in the recording of the selected data is created, and the data is recorded by executing the task list from Kernel Mode of an operating system. In another example, an image mastering application programming interface is provided. The image mastering application programming interface is a collection of COM objects including a disk master, a stash file, a disk recorder, and a burn engine. In another example, a computer readable media having program instructions for the recording of data to an optical media is provided. The program instructions enable the selection of data, sending the data to a stash file, creating a task list for the recording of the data, and executing the task list from Kernel Mode of an operating system.

A method for writing a file of data to a compact disc media is provided. The method begins by receiving a first portion of the file for writing to the compact disc media. The first portion can be any portion of the file. Once received, the first portion is divided into a plurality of chunks. A map data sector is then generated for a set of the plurality of chunks, and the map data sector includes information for interrelating the file data and the plurality of chunks to be written to the compact disc media. The map data sector is then written to the compact disc media followed by the plurality of chunks of the first portion of the file. If possible, the plurality of chunks are first compressed before writing to the compact disc media. If the first portion is long enough to fill multiple sets of chunks, associated map data sectors will be generated for those additional sets of chunks. Reading of a file written to the compact disc media will include reading the map data for the file, decompressing the file if needed and then arranging the chunks of data in accordance with information provided by the map data. The file is then transferred to the requesting application in the arranged file order.

Method for writing and reading data to and from a compact disc media

A method and a system are provided to improve storage space utilization in a file management system with a fixed number of clusters without increasing the number of volumes visible to the user. This is accomplished by merging together multiple logical partitions created on a physical volume into a single virtual partition. This allows for the use of smaller, more efficient logical partitions while still presenting to the user/application a single large volume. As a result, the user is able to deal with a single volume, greatly reducing the burden of remembering on which volume each file is located, but, at the same time, the user is able to reap the benefits of the efficient storage allocation deriving from a reduced cluster size.

Cluster buster

A method for handling buffer under-runs during the recording of files to an optical disc is provided. The method includes reserving a track for recording a file system associated with recording of one or more files on the optical disc. Then, the method moves to record the one or more files onto the optical disc in a track that logically follows the reserved track. In case of a buffer under-run, the method proceeds to close a current track and begin a following track after a gap, thus inserting a gap for each buffer under-run. Path tables and directory descriptors of the file system are then written after recording the one or more files. A volume descriptor sequence of the file system is recorded in the reserved track at a time after recording the path tables and the directory descriptor. The file system can also be as defined in the Joliet standard and the UDF standards.

Optical disc buffer under-run handling method

Disclosed is a system for minimizing the utilization of an I/O bus by a first data-writing peripheral device that is connected to the I/O bus. The system has a second peripheral device that shares the I/O bus connection. The system includes the operations of transferring data to a drive buffer that is in the first data-writing peripheral device. The transferring being configured to continue until the drive buffer has reached a full state. Performing a pre-write calibration of the first data-writing peripheral device after the drive buffer has reached the full state. Commencing a writing of a portion of the data contained in the drive buffer, such that the first data received by the drive buffer is written first. The system further including releasing the I/O bus connection by placing a write thread of the first data-writing peripheral device in a sleep mode. Wherein when the write thread of the first data-writing peripheral device is in the sleep mode the I/O bus connection is made available to the second peripheral device while the first data-writing peripheral device is not transferring data. The system further includes continually bring the write thread of the first data-writing peripheral device out of the sleep mode to perform a data burst when the drive buffer has emptied to a critical level and then placing the write thread back to the sleep mode after the data burst.
