Smart pill bottle caps are provided. In general, a smart pill bottle cap can include a housing. The housing can include a sensor that is configured to monitor one or more characteristics of a pill bottle to which the housing is attached and can include a communication mechanism configured to communicate the one or more characteristics of the pill bottle to an external device. The communicated characteristic(s) of the pill bottle can be used to track usage of pills in the pill bottle, such as a date and time of when a pill was taken and/or a number of pills remaining in the pill bottle. A smart pill bottle cap can also be configured to engage a secondary, standard pill bottle cap that is used with a standard pill bottle.

In general, drug administration devices that communicate with surgical hubs and methods of using drug administration devices that communicate with surgical hubs are provided. In one aspect, a surgical system is provided that in one embodiment includes a drug administration device configured to administer a drug to a patient during performance of a surgical procedure. The drug administration device includes a first communications interface and a first processor configured to cause the first communications interface to transmit data regarding operation of the drug administration device during the performance of the surgical procedure. The surgical system also includes a surgical hub including a second processor and a second communications interface. The second communications interface is configured to receive the transmitted data from the first communications interface during the performance of the surgical procedure.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), which is given the acronym ULTRA (Unlimited Trains of Radio Acquisitions), allows simultaneous MR signal acquisition from the entire object volume in each of a multitude of very small receiver coils arranged in a 3D array around the imaging volume, except for gradient reversals and/or RF pulses for refocusing spins into echoes. This permits a rate of MR signal acquisition that is greatly increased (e.g., 256 times) compared with known existing techniques, with a full 3D image constructed in as little as 1 millisecond. Furthermore, noise&#x2014;both audible and electrical&#x2014;is substantially reduced. Clinical imaging can be completed in seconds or less, with good signal-to-noise ratio; signal-to-noise ratio further increases by reducing or eliminating RF noise due to gradient switching; real-time functional MRI can be on millisecond timescales; high quality imaging of thorax and abdomen can be in a single breath hold; ands; and audible noise and vibration are greatly reduced.

Ultrafast MRI system and method

A Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MM) system, called ULTRA (Unlimited Trains of Radio Acquisitions), can operate with essentially no magnetic gradient reversals. Each of a multitude of small receiver coils arranged in a 3D array around the imaging volume simultaneously acquires MR signal from the entire volume. This greatly increases the rate of MR signal acquisition and allows a full MR image to be reconstructed in as little as 1 millisecond. Both electrical and audible noise is greatly reduced.

Using curves to emulate soft body deformation in a computer-generated character is disclosed. A method can include accessing a reference model mapped to one or more deformation curves for the character. The reference model can include a mesh of vertices representing a soft body layer of the character. The deformation curve can include multiple sample points selected for mapping. Each mesh vertex on the model can be mapped to each sample point on the curve to establish a relationship between them for deformation. The method can also include receiving a movement of one or more sample points on the curve to a desired deformation position. The method can further include calculating primary and secondary movements of the mesh vertices on the model based on the movements of sample points. The method can move the mesh vertices as calculated to a desired deformation position and output the reference model with the moved vertices for rendering to emulate the soft body deformation of the character.

Systems and methods for performing MOS skin deformations are provided. In one example process, the in vector of a MOS transform may be manually configured by a user. In another example process, a slide/bulge operation may be configured to depend on two or more MOS transforms. Each of the MOS transforms may be assigned a weight that represents the transform's contribution to the overall slide/bulge. In yet another example process, a bulge operation for a MOS vertex may be performed in a direction orthogonal to the attached MOS curve regardless of the direction of the attachment vector. In yet another example process, a ghost transform may be inserted into a MOS closed curve and used to calculate skin deformations associated with first transform of the MOS closed curve.

Multipoint offset sampling deformation techniques

A self-contained hand-held test device for the single-use determination of an analyte (such as glucose) in a bodily fluid sample (for example, a whole blood sample) includes a housing with proximal and distal ends, a housing cap configured for removable attachment to the distal end of the housing, a single analytical test strip (e.g., a single electrochemical-based analytical test strip) disposed partially in the housing and extending from the distal end thereof, a meter module disposed in the housing, and a lancing module attached to the proximal end of the housing. The lancing module is configured to lance a user's target site (such as a fingertip or other suitable site) for the expression of a bodily fluid sample. In addition, the single analytical test strip has a bodily fluid sample application portion and a meter module contact portion and is operably connected to the meter module in user irreplaceable manner.

A method is provided for animating a three-dimensional object using an animation rig. An exemplary method according to the invention is a method that defines a positional relationship between the location of one or more known points on first surface and an equal number of corresponding points on a virtual surface, and a time interval. The time interval is incremented, and the positional offsets of one or more known points on the first surface are determined. The corresponding point or points on the virtual surface are then transformed by the positional offset, and the change in animation rig control values for the transformed points on the virtual surface are calculated. The animation rig control values are then updated based on said calculations.

Method and system for 3D surface deformation fitting

A method of detecting Parkinson's disease through MRI of substantial nigra pars compacta (SNc) tissue. The method involves obtaining a gray matter suppressed (GMS) MRI signal from the SNc tissue, obtaining a white matter suppressed (WMS) MRI signal of the SNc tissue, and combining information from the GMS and WMS MRI signals to produce resultant signals indicative of Parkinson's disease. A similar method can be used to detect Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. A method of distinguishing between the two diseases involves obtaining at least two starting MRI images of SNc tissue using different MRI parameters, and combining the starting images to compute resultant signals differentiating between the two forms of parkinsonism.

A system and method is disclosed which relates to reading test strips. The method may include reading and storing initial values of a front photodiode and a rear photodiode, reading current values of the front and rear photodiodes, detecting at least one change between initial and current values in the front or the rear photodiodes, comparing the detected value change of one of the photodiodes with the value of the other photodiode, and determining a condition of the test strip in response to the resulting comparison.

Method and apparatus for collecting a blood component and performing a photopheresis treatment

A pet grooming aid comprises a flexible, elongate handle coupled to a head bearing rigid tines adapted to reach through a pet's fur to its skin. The handle includes a reservoir for treatment fluids, the reservoir being coupled through a gate valve to a manifold within the head that distributes the fluid to a tube within each tine. Squeezing the handle forces treatment fluid through the manifold and tines onto the pet's skin, while the gate valve prevents fluid flow when the handle is not squeezed. A recharge nozzle and cap on the handle opposite the head allows filling the reservoir without spilling fluid out the tines, and seals the reservoir for use.

In accordance with certain disclosed embodiments of the present invention, there is provided an assay test device for determining whether a fluid under test contains a certain substance, wherein the device includes a test strip disposed at least partially within a housing for receiving the fluid under test. A sensor mounted on the housing detects the certain substance in the fluid under test received on the test strip to generate an electrical signal indicative of the amount of the substance detected. A processor responds to the signal for determining whether or not the fluid under test contains a predetermined quantity of the certain substance to generate an electrical signal. A display mounted on the housing responds to the output signal to indicate the presence or absence of a predetermined quantity of the certain substance contained within the fluid under test.
