An expansion device is disclosed for including a plurality of modular devices within a pre-defined volume, such as the drive bay of a computing device. The expansion device may include a standardized bus connection and circuitry connecting to a controller chip, circuitry electrically coupling the controller chip to a plurality of modular devices, and a housing that houses the controller chip, connecting circuitry, and modular devices and that fits within the pre-defined volume.

A system includes a rack and one or more computer systems mounted in the rack. At least one of the computer systems includes a circuit board assembly, such as a motherboard, and a chassis coupled to the circuit board assembly. At least a portion of the chassis is made of a shock-absorbing polymeric material, such as an expanded foam material.

A storage unit includes one or more storage devices. In one embodiment, it is determined whether a temperature associated with the storage unit is below a minimum threshold. In another embodiment, it is determined whether a predicted heat load of the storage unit is below a minimum threshold. A predicted heat load for the storage unit is increased by initiating a data operation in the storage devices in response to determining that the temperature, or the predicted heat load, is below the minimum threshold.

A memory carrier system includes a carrier chassis that includes a board having a board connector. The board is operable to couple to a plurality of memory modules. A pair of pinion cams are rotatably mounted to the carrier chassis. A handle is moveably coupled to the carrier chassis and includes a pair of rack arms. Each rack arm engages a respective pinion cam. The carrier chassis is operable to be positioned in an information handling system (IHS) chassis that includes an IHS connector, and the handle is operable to be moved relative to the carrier chassis in order to rotate the pinion cams into an engagement with the IHS chassis that provides a cam force that mates the board connector to the IHS connector.

A power routing device includes one or more mounting portions and one or more power routing portions. At least one of the mounting portions can be mounted in an expansion slot of a circuit board assembly. The power routing portion can route electrical power to the circuit board assembly. In one embodiment, the expansion slot is a slot for a PCI expansion card.

Disclosed are various embodiments including systems and methods relating to the management of heat load in a data center. An access frequency of a data object is estimated in a computing device. The data object is stored in at least one of a plurality of storage units. Each of the storage units comprises a plurality of solid-state storage devices in a proximal arrangement. The storing is based at least in part on the access frequency of the data object and a density of the arrangement of the solid-state storage devices within the at least one of the storage units.
