A magnetic field concentrating or guiding device can include one or more coils, and one or more foil, tape and/or bulk superconductor structures disposed in one or more predetermined positions with relation to the coils. The one or more superconductor structures can form one or more magnetic field carrying regions. During operation, current passing through the one or more coils can generate one or more magnetic fields that are compressed or guided in the magnetic field carrying regions.

Magnetic field concentrating and or guiding devices and methods

Embodiments of the present invention provide a compact gantry designed to provide particle therapy using a particle beam. A gantry for providing the particle therapy comprises a first dipole magnet operable to bend a particle beam received from a cyclotron by a first degree amount. The gantry further comprises a plurality of quadrupole magnets configured to condition the beam asymmetrically to produce an asymmetric beam, wherein a configuration of the quadrupole magnets is determined using a dispersion function of a second dipole magnet. Further, the second dipole magnet is operable to receive the asymmetric beam and bend the asymmetric beam by a second degree amount, and wherein the second dipole magnet disperses the asymmetric beam to produce a symmetric beam shape at a treatment iscoenter or at any other reference point.

Irradiation device for irradiating an irradiation object with heavy charged particles, comprising a support for the irradiation object, and an irradiation nozzle irradiating a charged particle beam towards the irradiation object, wherein the beam is deflected within the irradiation nozzle. The support for the irradiation object is moveable at least horizontally, and the irradiation nozzle is moveable at least vertically and rotatable around a nozzle swivel axis along which the particle beam enters into the irradiation nozzle.

Irradiation device and method

Systems and apparatuses for providing particle beams for radiation therapy with a compact design and suitable to a single treatment room. The radiation system comprises a stationary cyclotron coupled to a rotating gantry assembly through a beam line assembly. The system is equipped with a single set of dipole magnets that are installed on the rotating gantry assembly and undertakes the dual functions of beam energy selection and beam deflection. The energy degrader may be exposed to the air pressure. The beam line assembly comprises a rotating segment and a stationary segment that are separated from each other through an intermediate segment that is exposed to an ambient pressure.

The present invention relates to an irradiation device for irradiating an irradiation object with heavy charged particles at an irradiation station, comprising a particle accelerator for providing a particle beam and a swivelling device for swivelling the particle beam impinging on the irradiation object, wherein the swivelling device comprises a carrier pivotable about an axis. In accordance with the invention, the irradiation device is characterized in that the particle accelerator is mounted on the pivotable carrier.
