Various splice connector assemblies are disclosed. The splice connector assembly can include a connection unit mating a female and male terminals. The splice connector assembly can include an outer housing with an inner passage configured to receive the terminals. A first securing mechanism can be engaged with a first end of the outer housing and a second securing mechanism can be engaged with a second end of outer housing. The first and second securing mechanisms can each include a coupling nut engaged with the housing, a washer that is non-rotatably connected to the housing, and a sealing gland that comprises an aperture having a non-concentric cross sectional shape.

Various interconnect assemblies are disclosed. The interconnect assembly can include an insert having a hook protrusion that fits into a slot of a receiving region. The hook protrusion can have a curved surface that helps the hook protrusion slide into a slot as the insert is rocked toward the receiving region to seat the insert in the receiving region. The receiving region can have a latch that snaps over a key portion of the insert to keep the insert seated in the receiving region.

Various connection interfaces are disclosed. In some embodiments, the connection interface includes a receptacle and a connector. The receptacle can be configured to be positioned in the wall of an electrical device. The receptacle can comprise a first set of electrical contacts and a channel. The connector can be configured to be matingly engaged with the receptacle in an engaged state and to be separated from the receptacle in a disengaged state. The connector can comprise a second set of electrical contacts. Some embodiments are configured such that angled surfaces of the channel and boss interact as the connector is moved into engagement with the receptacle. This can guide the connector into the receptacle such that the first and second sets of electrical contacts are in electrical communication with each other.

Connection interfaces with coupling mechanisms

A crimp contact is provided where the axes of the contact form a non-linear angle, such as a 90&#xb0; angle. The crimp contact can be a multi-part contact with a front contact portion that is attached in a removable or fixed manner to the rear crimp contact portion. The front contact portion can be attached to the rear crimp contact portion using a threaded connector to form a threaded attachment.

Various components and methods related to electrical connectors are disclosed. The electrical connectors can be configured to receive a plurality of cables. The electrical connectors can be configured to accommodate a plurality of cables so as to provide a high density packaging within each of the pair of electrical connectors. In order to provide appropriate shielding against electric flux and to reduce noise, each of the plurality of cables can be retained within a genderless insert that can be inserted through each of the pair of electrical connectors. Each of the genderless inserts can include an engagement end that allows the interconnection of the cables retained within the pair of electrical connectors. In some examples, the engagement end of each of the genderless inserts includes both a male and female component.

An electrical-connection system for connecting a first cable to a second cable includes a central connector unit that attaches to cable-end connectors. Among other features, the central connector unit might include a curved surface, each of the cable-end connectors might include a grip mechanism. Generally, the electrical-connection system is configured to be positioned in a radial groove of a cylindrical body, such that an overall height of the system is maintained within space constraints.

Electrical connectors are disclosed. One electrical connector comprises a receptacle component and a plug component. The receptacle component includes a receptacle body portion having a pair of opposed walls defining a gap therebetween. The pair of opposed walls each having one or more openings in their respective ends. The receptacle component also includes a plurality of first metal contacts partially surrounded by the pair of opposed walls. The plug component includes a plug body portion having a projection. The projection is sized to fit within the gap between the pair of opposed walls of the receptacle component. The plug component also includes a plurality of second metal contacts extending from the plug body portion. Ends of the second metal contacts are positioned to extend into the openings in the pair of opposed walls when the projection is positioned within the gap between the pair of opposed walls.

An electrical connector includes a housing having a bracket mating surface and an opening that extends through the bracket mating surface; an electrical conductor that is positioned through the opening in the housing; a grommet that is positioned in a space defined between the electrical conductor and the opening in which the conductor is positioned to substantially prevent contaminants from entering the housing through the opening; and a bracket removably positioned on the bracket mating surface of the housing of the connector and positioned to bear on the grommet to substantially prevent displacement of the grommet with respect to the housing of the connector.

Electrical connectors are disclosed. A component for an electrical connector includes a body portion, a pair of first metal contacts, and a second metal contact. The pair of first metal contacts are coupled to the body portion. The first metal contacts each have first ends extending in a first direction and second ends extending from the body portion in a direction opposite the first direction. The second metal contact is coupled to the body portion. The second metal contact has a first end extending in the first direction and a pair of second ends extending from the body portion in the direction opposite the first direction. Each second end of the second metal contact is aligned with a respective second end of the first metal contacts in a direction perpendicular to the first direction. The component may be configured as a plug component or as a receptacle component.

A pair of electrical connectors () can be mated by inserting a pair of guide pins () lying on side axes () of a first connector, into a pair of guide sleeve passages () that lie on side axes of a second connector. The first and second connectors each can be adjusted to laterally shift front parts of the guide pins and front parts of the guide sleeves, so the distance A' between the two pins and the distance B&#x2032; between the two sleeves is slightly reduced or slightly increased to prevent one of the connectors from mating with a third connector.

A compact electrical connector has first contacts () with a first characteristic impedance (50 ohms) and second contacts () with a second characteristic impedance (100 ohms), with each set of contacts having a separate electrical ground (G, G). The first contacts lie in passages of a first insulative holder (), with the first contacts arranged in three rows () wherein the middle row is offset from the top and bottom rows to maintain a constant contact spacing. The second contacts () lie in two vertically elongated insulative holders () that each lies at one end of the first holder, with each holder having a grounded second contact () and with each holder projecting into a recess () at the end of the frame that receives the first holder.

A connector system includes first and second mateable connectors () with coaxial contacts, wherein the first connector has movable center and outer contacts () that are each biased forward by a separate spring () to engage stationary contact pads () of the mating second connector. A stationary tubular insulator () surrounds much of the movable center contact, and a stationary sheet metal shield () lies around the tubular insulator and within the outer contact. The front end of the movable outer contact forms an internal flange () with a hole () that allows the front end of the movable center contact to pass through. The shield front-end has an internal flange () that lies between the front end of the tubular insulator and the movable outer contact internal flange, to maintain a constant impedance through out the first connector.

Coaxial contacts of a second connector () are in the form of static pads (), while coax contacts of a first connector () are in the form of spring contacts () with pins () that engage the static pads. The first connector includes a coax center spring contact () positioned to engage a center static pad () of the second connector, and the first connector includes a plurality of outer coax spring contacts (A,B,C,D) positioned to engage the outer static pad () of the second connector. When fully mated, a static pad region () on the first connector lies facewise adjacent to the outer static pad. The connectors are constructed to mate by pivoting the first connector against the second one, to assure that an outer coax spring contact makes engagement before the center spring contact makes engagement.

A connector system wherein a first connector () has a pair of latches () that can be depressed to release them from a pair of strikes () of a mating second connector (). A retainer () is provided that prevents accidental release of the latches. The retainer has blocking parts () that move under the latches when the retainer is slid to a forward blocking position. The first connector has a pair of radially-projecting pins () at its laterally opposite sides, and the retainer has a pair of forwardly-projecting arms () with slots () that each receives one of the pins. Each slot has a constriction () that resists sliding of the retainer away from its forward or rearward position.
