A handheld surgical instrument having a handpiece and a shaft extending from the handpiece is provided. The instrument includes a cutting implement disposed at a distal end of the shaft and an articulation portion disposed proximate to the cutting implement. The articulation portion includes a set of first slits and a set of second slits opposite the first set of slits. The articulation portion also has first and second passageways disposed in the slits along with first and second flat pull wires disposed in the passageways. The instrument also has an articulation control assembly that includes an articulator having first and second anchor points coupled with the first and second flat pull wires. The articulator moves the first flat pull wire in a first direction and moves the second flat pull wire in a second direction opposite the first direction during actuation.

A single or multiple lumen catheter is disclosed which includes an expandable lumen. The expandable lumen is movable from a collapsed or sealed configuration to an open or expanded configuration. In the open configuration, the expandable lumen is dimensioned to receive a guidewire or stylet or facilitate the introduction of fluids into a patient.

An elevator for an endoscope comprises a first end secured to the endoscope, a second end movable by an actuator, a flexible portion positioned between the first and second ends that is rotatable when the second end is moved by the actuator, and a guide portion extending between the flexible portion and the second end to receive an endotherapy instrument extending from the endoscope, the guide portion comprising a chute to guide the endotherapy instrument leaving the endoscope. A method of forming an elevator comprises forming from a planar sheet of material an elongate body comprising a length between first and second ends, a width, and a thickness, forming a guide body in the elongate body, bending the elongate body such that first and second lengths of the elongate body oppose each other to form an interior space, and bending the guide body to extend into the interior space.

A rotatable surgical instrument and method includes an outer tubular member and an inner tubular member contained, at least in part, within the outer tubular member and configured to rotate relative to the outer tubular member, the inner tubular member and outer tubular member forming a gap therebetween. A distal tip is coupled to and configured to rotate with the inner tubular member. Bearings, each positioned in the gap and encircling the inner tubular member, are configured to maintain a separation between the outer tubular member and the inner tubular member. A spacer is positioned within the gap and between two of the bearings, wherein the spacer is configured to maintain a spacing between the bearings.

High flow rate catheters, and related methods, are useful in dialysis and other procedures. A catheter according to the invention comprises a hub and a generally elongated conduit. The conduit has a substantially continuous and smooth wall. The conduit also defines at least one lumen and has a length extending from a proximal end to a distal end of the conduit. The proximal end is coupled to a hub and the distal end has an opening in communication with the lumen. The conduit has a conical shape which tapers along the length.

High flow rate dialysis catheters and related methods

The present disclosure relates to multiple embodiments of catheters which include valved openings which are normally closed to maintain a lock solution within a catheter during periods of non-use.

Valved tip catheters

The present disclosure relates to a medical catheter including an elongate catheter member defining a longitudinal axis and having a proximal end, a distal end, an outer wall, and first and second internal lumens. The outer wall of the catheter member includes a first opening in fluid communication with the first internal lumen to facilitate the establishment of a first flow stream, and a second opening in fluid communication with the second internal lumen to facilitate the establishment of a second flow stream. Each of the first and second openings includes proximal and distal tapered portions that are connected by an intermediate portion having a constant transverse dimension. The configurations, dimensions, and positioning of the first and second openings optimizes separation of the first flow stream from the second flow stream in order to reduce the likelihood of recirculation between the first and second internal lumens.

A catheter includes an elongate body having a proximal portion and a distal portion, and a tip having a proximal portion coupled to a distal portion of the elongate body along a longitudinal axis of the elongate body. The elongate body and tip together define a first lumen and a second lumen. The elongate body further defines a third lumen extending distally to a body opening defined by the elongate body and in fluid communication with the third lumen. A cross-sectional area, orthogonal to the longitudinal axis, of at least one of the first and second lumens increases from a point proximal to the body opening to a point distal to the body opening.

A tunneling system for use with a catheter includes an elongate tunneling member defining a longitudinal axis along at least a portion of a longitudinal length thereof. The elongate member has a first end and a second end. The tunneling system further includes a connector configured for releasably engaging the second end of the elongate tunneling member to the catheter.

A luer adapter includes a body including an inner surface defining a lumen and first and second ends. Each end is adapted to connect to a medical device. An antimicrobial material is positioned at least on a portion of the inner surface. A barrier is positioned between the lumen and the antimicrobial material and permits the passage of the antimicrobial material therethrough upon exposure to moisture. The barrier may include hydrophilic material.

A catheter includes an elongate shaft having proximal and distal end portions defining a longitudinal axis, and first and second tip segments. The elongate shaft and the first and second tip segments define respective first and second lumens. Each tip segment includes a proximal portion fixed relative to the distal end of the elongate shaft, and a distal portion. Each tip segment defines a side opening in fluid communication with a respective one of the first and second lumens. Each tip segment is movable between a straight configuration in which each respective tip segment is substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis, and a curved configuration in which each tip segment has a concave portion with respect to the longitudinal axis. The side openings face each other along the concave portions.
