A light weight flexible flame, arc flash and flash fire resistant fabric for protective garments is made from a flexible polyvinylchloride sheet having phthalate or phthalate free plasticizers coated with well defined parallel lines or grids of adhesive layer. The adhesive coated polyvinylchloride sheet contacts a non-woven meta-aramid fiber liner and is heated to produce a bond between the polyvinylchloride sheet and the liner. Both polyvinylchloride sheet and meta-aramid non-woven liner resist heat. When heat from arc flash or flash fire is applied, the heat is conducted away at local contacting regions of the adhesive with the polyvinylchloride sheet to the liner whereby the temperature of the polyvinylchloride is locally reduced preventing sagging, charring or burning of the space between adhesive contacting regions. This structure produces mechanically strong lightweight arc flash and flash fire resistant fabric suited for producing garments that meet all ASTM specifications for fireproof garments.

A boot comprises: a shell comprising a first foamed polymeric material; a sock liner comprising a second foamed polymeric material, the sock liner having an exposed section and an enclosed section; and an adhesive layer affixing the shell and the enclosed section of the sock liner; wherein there is an absence of intermingling of the second surface of the enclosed section of the sock liner with the inner surface of the shell. Methods of making and using the boot are also provided.

Provided among other things is a breach or contamination indicating elastomeric article for indicating a breach or contamination by a selected chemical or group of chemicals, the article having an exterior and interior and comprising: (a) an interior elastomeric layer selected to resist permeation by the selected chemical(s), which interior layer is colored; and (b) a contiguous or dis-contiguous indicating layer comprising solid particles of hydrophobic dye effective to provide enhanced color on contacting hexane, cyclohexane, xylene, ethyl ether, butyl acetate, MIBK, methanol, acetonitrile and acetic acid; wherein the distribution of the indicating layer provides for a visually noticeable color change against the background of the colored interior elastomeric layer upon a breach or contamination event by a selected chemical.

Provided among other things is a fabric comprising: a HPPE base fabric; coated thereon a primer polymer; and coated on the primer polymer a liquid-resistant polymer layer. The primer polymer can be a polyurethane. The base fabric can comprise an adhesion promoter that can be a plasticizer. The adhesion promoter can be a sulfonic acid plasticizer. The adhesion promoter can contain an active hydrogen, carboxy, carboxyloxy or acid group. The fabric can comprise, coated on the liquid-resistant polymer layer, an additional polymer layer. The additional polymer layer can comprise carnauba wax in an amount from about 1 to 3% Phr. The liquid-resistant polymer layer can be a NBR layer. In certain embodiments, the fabric shows no delamination of the liquid-resistant polymer layer after an adherence test. The primer layer can be a polyurethane layer. These features can be present in any combination.

Latex coated high performance polyethylene fabrics

Condoms having an elastomeric layer and coating containing an anhydrous warming lubricant and at least one or more ingredients dispersed therein, the coating being disposed on one or both surfaces are provided. The ingredients disposed on the elastomeric layer can be solid particles or encapsulated ingredients that are insoluble in the anhydrous warming lubricant and soluble in water. Methods of producing and using these condoms are also provided.

Condom with multifunctional coating

A composite molding compound comprising a combination of metal and ceramic powders is disclosed. The powders are combined with a binder, a liquid carrier and other processing additives in a manner to provide uniform distribution of two phases in a material format that facilitates the molding of complex parts at relatively low pressures and temperatures using conventional injection molding machines. The products formed from these molding compounds may be designed with tailored physical and mechanical properties such as thermal conductivity, thermal expansion coefficient, density, elastic modulus and wear properties.

Metal/ceramic composite molding material

A process for shaping threaded metal and ceramic parts from powders and molding compositions therefor is disclosed. Parts produced by this process are formed net shape without the need for machining or other finishing operations. The process comprises forming a mixture containing metal powders, ceramic powders or mixtures thereof, a gel-forming material and an aqueous gel-forming material solvent, and molding the mixture in a mold containing internal and/or external threads under conditions of temperature and pressure to produce a self-supporting threaded article.

Low pressure injection molding of metal and ceramic threaded components

A process for molding metal knife blades from powders and molding compositions therefor are disclosed. Parts produced by this process are formed near net shape without the need for machining or other finishing operations. The process comprises forming a mixture containing metal powders, a gel-forming material and an aqueous gel-forming material solvent, and molding the mixture in an injection molding machine under conditions of temperature and pressure to produce a self-supporting knife blade having a sharp edge.

A process for molding flat tableware from powders and molding compositions therefor are disclosed. Parts produced by this process are formed near net shape without the need for machining or other finishing operations. The process comprises forming a mixture containing a metal powder, a gel-forming material and an aqueous gel-forming material solvent, and molding the mixture in an injection molding machine under conditions of temperature and pressure to produce a self-supporting flat tableware article.

Low pressure injection molding of flat tableware from metal feedstocks

Molding compositions for shaping parts from stainless steel powders are disclosed. The process comprises the steps of forming a mixture comprising stainless steel powder, a gel-forming material having a gel strength, measured at a temperature between 0&deg; C. and about 30&deg; C. and a gel comprising about 1.5 wt % of the gel-forming material and water, of at least about 200 g/cm2, and water, and molding the mixture at a temperature sufficient to produce a self-supporting article comprising the powder and gel. The preferred gel-forming material is an agaroid and the preferred molding process is injection molding.

Stainless steel aqueous molding compositions

A method for rapidly manufacturing soft tooling from organic polymer-based resins and reinforcement filler materials for use in an injection molding machine to make complex metal and ceramic parts from powders. The cost to produce the tooling is relatively low and the manufacturing time is relatively short compared to conventional processes for making metal tooling. The finished parts are near-net shape, requiring little or no machining, and have excellent sintered properties.

The process comprises the steps of forming a mixture comprising stainless steel powder, a gel-forming material having a gel strength, measured at a temperature between 0.degree. C. and about 30.degree. C. and a gel comprising about 1.5 wt % of the gel-forming material and water, of at least about 200 g/cm2, and water, and molding the mixture at a temperature sufficient to produce a self-supporting article comprising the powder and gel. The preferred gel-forming material is an agaroid and the preferred molding process is injection molding.
