Metal chelates, methods of making the metal chelate, electrolyte formulations comprising metal chelates, and electrochemical devices for energy storage using or including at least one metal chelate are disclosed. The disclosure also relates to a method to provide a metal to an electrolyte in a flow battery to plate an electrode while the electrode is in the battery.

Electrochemical storage devices comprising chelated metals

The invention provides an electrochemical cell based on a new chemistry for a flow battery for large scale, e.g., gridscale, electrical energy storage. Electrical energy is stored chemically in quinone molecules having multiple oxidation states, e.g., three or more. During charging of the battery, the quinone molecules at one electrode are oxidized by emitting electrons and protons, and the quinone molecules at the other electrode are reduced by accepting electrons and protons. These reactions are reversed to deliver electrical energy. The invention also provides additional high and low potential quinones that are useful in rechargeable batteries.

Quinone and hydroquinone based flow battery

The invention provides an electrochemical cell based on a new chemistry for a flow battery for large scale, e.g., gridscale, electrical energy storage. Electrical energy is stored chemically at an electrochemical electrode by the protonation of small organic molecules called quinones to hydroquinones. The proton is provided by a complementary electrochemical reaction at the other electrode. These reactions are reversed to deliver electrical energy. A flow battery based on this concept can operate as a closed system. The flow battery architecture has scaling advantages over solid electrode batteries for large scale energy storage.

An audio mixer for combining stereo phonograph, stereo high impedance and low impedance input signals having a means for audio previewing one or more of said inputs simultaneously including a means for visually indicating which signals are being previewed, further including a means for audio previewing said signals in a monophonic signal, further including a means for combining said inputs in the final amplifier stage such that the output signal is in a monophonic state, further including a means for disabling said low impedance input from the final output means.
