A lighting fixture appears as a skylight and is referred to as a skylight fixture. First and second light engines of the fixture provide different color points, peak light intensity angles, far-field light distribution characteristics, and/or circadian stimulus values. A skylight fixture may include a sky-resembling assembly and a plurality of sun-resembling assemblies, with dedicated optical assemblies and/or light sources. A lighting fixture may include multiple waveguides that different extraction feature patterns and/or may be sequentially arranged.

Lighting fixture and methods

A light fixture, e.g., as an artificial skylight, in which light within a region defined by x, y color coordinates (0.37, 0.34), (0.35, 0.38), (0.15, 0.20), and (0.20, 0.14) exits a first light engine, and light within a region defined by coordinates (0.29, 0.32), (0.32, 0.29), (0.41, 0.36), (0.48, 0.39), (0.48, 0.43), (0.40, 0.41), and (0.35, 0.38) exits a second light engine. Also, light fixtures in which a second light engine comprises a sidewall, and light exiting a first light engine passes through space defined by the sidewall; light fixtures in which first and second light engines are able to output light providing different CS values at a luminance; light fixtures in which light incident on a surface of the fixture and cumulative light exiting the fixture have different color points; light fixtures in which light distribution characteristics of light engines differ; and/or other features. Light fixtures and methods

A lighting fixture appears as a skylight and is referred to as a skylight fixture. The skylight fixture has a sky-resembling assembly and a plurality of sun-resembling assemblies. The sky-resembling assembly has a sky-resembling optical assembly and a sky-specific light source, wherein light from the sky-specific light source exits a planar interior surface of the sky-resembling light optical assembly as skylight light. The plurality of sun-resembling assemblies are arranged adjacent one another and extend downward from a periphery of the sky-resembling assembly. Each of the plurality of sun-resembling assemblies has a sun-resembling optical assembly and a sun-specific light source, wherein light from the sun-specific light source exits a planar interior surface of the sun-resembling optical assembly as sunlight light.

Skylight Fixture

A light emitting diode (LED) is disclosed comprising a plurality of semiconductor layers with a first contact on the bottom surface of the semiconductor layers and a second contact on the top surface of the semiconductor layer. A coating is included that comprises a cured binder and a conversion material that at least partially covers the semiconductor layers, wherein the second contact extends through the coating and is exposed on the same plane as the top surface of the coating. An electrical signal applied to the first and second contacts is conducted through the coating to the semiconductor layers causing the LED to emit light. In other embodiments first and second contacts are accessible from one side of the LED. A coating is included that comprises a cured binder and a conversion material. The coating at least partially covers the semiconductor layers, with the first and second contacts extending through the coating and exposed on the same plane as a surface of the coating. An electrical signal applied to the first and second contacts is conducted through the coating to the semiconductor layers causing the LED to emit light.

Skylight fixture

Lamps and bulbs are disclosed generally comprising different combinations and arrangements of a light source, a reflective optical element, and a separate diffusing layer. This arrangement allows for the fabrication of lamps and bulbs that are efficient, reliable and cost effective and can provide an essentially omni-directional emission pattern, even with a light source comprised of an arrangement of LEDs. The lamps according to the present invention can also comprise thermal management features that provide for efficient dissipation of heat from the LEDs, which in turn allows the LEDs to operate at lower temperatures. The lamps can also comprise optical elements to help change the emission pattern from the generally directional pattern of the LEDs to a more omni-directional pattern.

A method and apparatus for coating a plurality of semiconductor devices that is particularly adapted to coating LEDs with a coating material containing conversion particles. One method according to the invention comprises providing a mold with a formation cavity. A plurality of semiconductor devices are mounted within the mold formation cavity and a curable coating material is injected or otherwise introduced into the mold to fill the mold formation cavity and at least partially cover the semiconductor devices. The coating material is cured so that the semiconductor devices are at least partially embedded in the cured coating material. The cured coating material with the embedded semiconductor devices is removed from the formation cavity. The semiconductor devices are separated so that each is at least partially covered by a layer of the cured coating material. One embodiment of an apparatus according to the invention for coating a plurality of semiconductor devices comprises a mold housing having a formation cavity arranged to hold semiconductor devices. The formation cavity is also arranged so that a curable coating material can be injected into and fills the formation cavity to at least partially covering the semiconductor devices.

Combinations of solid state light emitters, optionally arranged to stimulate one or more lumiphoric materials, are used to illuminate surfaces (e.g., upright surfaces) including printed material produced with CMY or CMYK inks. Vibrancy and/or efficacy may be enhanced by increasing the effective steepness of printed ink reflectance wavelength boundaries by illuminating printed material with solid state light emitters of multiple colors having tailored boundaries (e.g., increased separation between colors and/or increased energy in spectral areas highly reflected by CMY inks, or reducing energy of emissions at wavelengths to which the human eye is less sensitive). Lighting devices may include multiple operating modes having different gamut properties (e.g., relative gamut values). One or more subregions of an upright surface bearing printed material may be preferentially illuminated with an array of solid state light emitters including multiple emitters having different peak wavelengths.

Lighting devices including solid state emitter groups for illuminating printed material with enhanced vibrancy

A LED lamp has a base and an at least partially optically transmissive enclosure connected to the base. A heat sink is partially disposed in the enclosure and supports a plurality of LEDs. The heat sink comprising a mounting portion positioned in the enclosure for supporting the LEDs and a heat dissipating portion exposed to the ambient environment where the interior of the enclosure is exposed to the ambient environment. The heat sink have a plurality of separate heat sink structures that are mounted to the lamp independently of one another. Each heat sink structure may have a thickness of approximately 1-5 mm. Each heat sink structure may in some embodiments weigh approximately 3.8 to 7.7 grams and in other embodiments weigh approximately 27 grams.

A lighting device including a blue solid state emitter, at least one yellow-green or green lumiphoric material, and at least one red or red-orange solid state emitter provides high color saturation, preferably in combination with a high R9-prime (modified R9) color rendering value, with such condition(s) being obtainable with at least one of (i) a red emitter peak wavelength of at least 630 nm, (ii) a green lumiphoric material having a narrow peak wavelength, and (iii) a blue shifted green color point within a specified region of a 1931 CIE chromaticity diagram, and obtainable without requiring a notch filtering material. Aggregate emissions may have a CCT in a range of from 2000K to 5000K.
