A fluidic handling unit includes a baseplate, a fluidic inlet block, a fluidic outlet block, a pump in fluidic communication with the fluidic inlet block and the fluidic outlet block, a carrier control board in electrical communication with the pump, and a flow cell carrier comprising a microfluidic flow cell receiving area, wherein the flow cell carrier is configured to receive and retain the fluidic handling unit. A bottom surface of the fluidic handling unit is configured to complementary mate with a top surface of the flow cell carrier, or wherein a bottom surface of the flow cell carrier is configured to complementarily mate with a top surface of the fluidic handling unit.

Self-contained slide processing unit for biological specimens

Systems and methods for processing biological specimens are provided. The biological specimen processing system generally includes a flow cell carrier for holding a microfluidic flow cell and a fluidic handling unit attachable to the flow cell carrier. The fluidic handling unit interfaces with the microfluidic flow cell and can include fluidic pumps, fluidic connections, integrated electronics, and processing software to facilitate processing of a biological specimen contained in the microfluidic flow cell.

The present invention provides a microscope slide for analyzing a tissue sample. The slide includes an elongate planar substrate, which comprises a first major surface having a sample-affixing area within which a tissue sample may be affixed; a first positive control sample affixed on the first major surface at a first location adjacent to the sample-affixing area; and a second positive control sample affixed on the first major surface at a second location adjacent to the sample-affixing area. The first and second locations are spaced such that quality of the staining of the first and second positive control samples is indicative of the quality of the staining of the tissue sample. Also provided are a kit containing the microscope slide and a method of making and a method of using the microscope slide.

Embodiments provide a user interface including an image panel for displaying a field of view corresponding to an image, or a portion of an image, of a biological specimen, and a biomarker panel for displaying thumbnail images for simultaneously viewing different aspects of a region within the field of view. Upon selection or update of the selected region of the field of view, the thumbnail images may be accordingly updated automatically to display the newly selected region. The image panel may include an interest region selection component for delineating a region within the field of view. The interest region selection component may be overlaid over a portion of the field of view displayed in the image panel, and may be used by a user to select or update the region within the field of view displayed in the biomarker panel. Images of interest may be saved to an electronic record.
