Apparatus, systems and methods are disclosed for treating a biological fluid with light. A container of biological fluid is introduced into a fluid treatment chamber where it is contacted with light provided by one or more light sources in proximity to the fluid treatment chamber. A drawer for holding containers of biological fluid introduces the containers into the chamber. Containers for holding the biological fluid are marked by the apparatus to indicate the status of the treatment.

Processing set and methods for processing and treating a biological fluid

A processor module is packaged with a display for a portable electronic device. The display is designed to create a space within a display housing to allow a processor module to be included in the display housing. The processor module can be designed to be integral with the display housing. Additionally, the processor module can be designed to be detachable from the display housing to provide a removable processor module. The removable processor module can be replaced with another processor module having different functionality or have stand alone functionality, as well as system functionality when attached to a display lid or a portable electronic device.

A computer system has a removable module that contains a processor, other electrical components, and a battery. When the module has been removed from the computer system, the processor runs an application that interacts with the electrical components in the module to provide stand-alone functionality. When the removable module is in the computer system, the module is accessed by the computer system to cause the computer system to perform some of the functionality provided by the module. The functionality provided by the removable module includes receiving emails, displaying an appointment calendar, displaying a contacts listing, providing audio content, providing cellular telephone service, obtaining a video image, providing biometric identification information, sensing position, and displaying a television picture.

Methods and devices are provided for reducing the concentration of low molecular weight compounds in a biological composition, while substantially maintaining a desired biological activity of the biological composition. The device comprises highly porous adsorbent particles, and the adsorbent particles are immobilized by an inert matrix. The matrix containing the particles is contained in a housing, and the particles range in diameter from about 1 &#x3bc;m to about 200 &#x3bc;m. The matrix can be fibrous, and the particles can have a surface area greater than 750 m/g and a pore diameter between about 25 and 800 &#x212b;. The device can be used to adsorb and remove a pathogen-inactivating compound that is a nucleic acid-binding compound such as psoralen, an acridine derivative or a dye from a biological composition such as a blood product.
