A device control system for controlling multiple electronic devices over a network with a centralized host device is disclosed. The device control system includes a host device providing a graphical interface for a user to control various electronic devices throughout a home, building, or industrial plant. The host device is connected to multiple devices over a network and controls the electronic devices in real-time. The host device runs a managing controlling process that closes the control loops for each device over the network at the host device. Multiple devices are controlled in real-time using a 2time slicing algorithm. The host device can be accessed from a remote location by establishing an Internet connection.

Systems and methods for controlling and monitoring multiple electronic devices

A safety circuit used in low-voltage connecting systems leaves the two low-voltage systems disconnected until it determines that it is safe to make a connection. When the safety circuit determines that no unsafe conditions exist and that it is safe to connect the two low-voltage systems, the safety circuit may connect the two systems by way of a 'soft start' that provides a connection between the two systems over a period of time that reduces or prevents inductive voltage spikes on one or more of the low-voltage systems. When one of the low-voltage systems has a completely-discharged battery incorporated into it, a method is used for detection of proper polarity of the connections between the low-voltage systems. The polarity of the discharged battery is determined by passing one or more test currents through it and determining whether a corresponding voltage rise is observed.

Low-voltage connection with safety circuit and method for determining proper connection polarity

Current transformer relays having dual functions as current transformers and electromechanical switches are described. The current transformer relay includes a relay coil and a conducting loop concentric with the relay coil. Additional functions are thus provided in addition to the main relay switching function or functions. The concentric nature of the relay coil and the conducting loop create a current transformer between these elements. The additional functions include the ability to measure an alternating current (AC) current conducted by the conducting loop, the ability to detect and interpret an information signal imposed on power lines connected to the conducting loop, the ability to induce or impose an information signal on the conducting loop for transmission to power lies connected to the conducting loop, and the ability to measure a differential current between currents carried by the conducting loop and a second concentric conducting loop.

Relay with current transformer

Systems and methods that provide improved detection of series fault conditions are described. The systems provide an increased range of response possibilities upon detection of such conditions. Solid-state temperature sensors are utilized and may be connected to a printed circuit board integrated with supply wire terminals, thus providing electronic circuitry controlling the response to over-temperature events while simultaneously keeping the temperature sensors in close proximity with the location of potential over-heating events. Electronic sensors in accordance with implementations of the present invention detect overheating conditions at temperatures more quickly because of the close proximity of the sensors to locations of potential overheating, thereby improving the safety of electrical wiring devices and fixtures. Additionally, the threshold temperature for response can more easily be selected or controlled to be at a variety of temperatures to improve safety.

Systems and methods for reducing electrically-caused fires in wiring devices

A safety outlet that prevents hazardous conditions is described. Embodiments of the outlet use safe low-voltage DC power to check and ensure that an appliance is plugged into the outlet, that the appliance does not have short circuits or ground faults, and that the appliance is switched on. Some embodiments warn of unsafe conditions. Until the safety checks are performed and satisfactorily passed, embodiments of the outlet keep the AC power turned off and isolated from the outlet. Only then is the receptacle powered, after which the appliance can be used normally. Once the appliance is switched off, the power at the outlet is also turned off automatically. When an appliance is in use, some embodiments of the invention continue providing ground fault protection using GFCI technology. All this is performed automatically and quickly, nearly imperceptibly in normal use. Some embodiments may be integrated with external control systems.

Electrical safety outlet

A heat sink hand placement tool for manually installing a heat sink to an integrated circuit (IC). The heat sink tool includes a heat sink interface block having a lower surface adapted to provide a force on a heat sink disposed over an IC. A force transducer interfaces with an upper surface of the heat sink interface block to produce an electrical signal, which is routed to a measurement circuit to measure the electrical signal. A chassis is disposed over the force transducer and the measurement circuit, wherein the chassis is adapted to receive a force from a user, such that the force is transmitted to the lower surface of the heat sink interface block. The measurement circuit then provides an indication of the force being applied within a predetermined range.

Heat sink hand placement tool

A turntable mixer, for mixing a sample container, comprising a rotation mechanism, a cycle timer, and a speed controller. The rotation mechanism has a turntable disk for supporting the sample container, and a motor for rotating the turntable disk. The cycle timer has a time-on controller for adjusting a time-on interval, and a time-off controller for adjusting a time-off interval. The rotation mechanism is enabled during the time-on interval, and disabled during the time-off interval, the time-on interval and time-off interval are repeated indefinitely to create a mixing duty cycle. The rotation speed of the turntable disk is adjusted by the speed controller.
