A photovoltaic (PV) module mounting system can have mounting clips that can be moved up and down a roof, and can allow the height of the mounting clips to be adjusted relative to the roof. At least a portion of the system can be made of a non-conductive material so that the system can be free of a grounding unit. The system can allow solar modules to be quickly installed, and can allow the solar modules to be removed quickly for repair or in the event of a fire.

The axes are orthogonally related. Positioning apparatus to place a reference point at selected locations in a plane. Two carriages are independently mounted to a carriage rail. The rail bears location references and the carriage carry sensors responsive to them to learn their positions along the carriage rail. Guideways and guide rails are mounted in pairs to a respective carriage and to an interface member bearing the reference point. They form an angle between them such that the interface member moves in the plane as a function of the locations of the carriages along the axis and relative to each other. Drivers drive the carriages in response to commands related to the location of the carriages.

X-Y positioner based on X axis motions

A stowable and self-deployable parallelogram-type panel array for solar cells. The array includes two sets of rigid panels, the panels of each set being hinged together, and the sets extending side-by-side along a central axis. The sets are foldable, and are pivoted together at their central points so as to form parallelogram-type structures. A respective yoke is hinged to each set to coordinate the movement of the sets. The yokes are hinged to a base on the opposite side of the axis from their respective set to provide greater structural stability and a higher first node resonant frequency. Deployment force is exerted by self-powered hinges, and are the only source of deployment force. The yokes are joined by gears to coordinate their rotation and thereby the stowing and deploying of the array.

A hockey puck for playing on surfaces other than ice, for example floors and streets which do not enjoy the smoothness and low coefficient of friction of ice. The puck has a hub, two disc-like face plates, and a bearing joining them so the hub rotates relative to the face plates. The outer peripheral surface of the hub projects radially beyond the face places, and axially recedes from them so the puck can tilt significantly without tripping on the surface.
