A synthesizer includes a first resonator mirror, a second resonator mirror, and a gain medium disposed within a laser resonator cavity defined by the first resonator mirror and the second resonator mirror. The synthesizer includes a saturable absorber operationally coupled to the gain medium and having active control such that the saturable absorber is configured to generate a waveform via an injection locking signal to create a mode locking effect, the waveform having a frequency comb defined by dimensions of the gain medium. The synthesizer also includes a crystal electro-optical modulator disposed within the laser resonator cavity. The waveform passes through the modulator to impinge on a photodiode to output an emission RF waveform. Changing the voltage applied to the modulator changes the index of refraction of the modulator, altering an optical path length of the laser resonator cavity to adjust a frequency of the emission RF waveform.

High power MMW synthesizer with truly continuous ultra wide bandwidth tuning range

A synthesizer including a controller configured to receive a first signal. A digital-to-analog converter (DAC) is coupled to the controller and is configured to generate a voltage bias based on the first signal. The voltage bias corresponds to a target resonant frequency. A semiconductor laser is coupled to the DAC and is configured to receive a second signal tone. The semiconductor laser generates a plurality of tone signals having octave multiples of a base sub-harmonic tone of the second signal tone.

A configurable radio frequency system. The system includes: a plurality of radio frequency cells connected in a cascade. Each of the radio frequency cells includes an input switch connected to an input of the radio frequency system, an output switch connected to an output of the radio frequency system, and a plurality of elements, each of the elements being connected between the input switch and the output switch. The input switch and the output switch are configured, depending on their respective settings, to cause a radio frequency signal path from an input of the cell to an output of the cell to include one of the elements. The plurality of elements in each cell includes a band pass filter, an attenuator, a through path, an amplifier, and a mixer.

Software-configurable multi-function RF module

A signal generator. A voltage controlled oscillator generates a signal that is fed to a comb generator, e.g., a nonlinear transmission line. A tone, from among a comb of tones at the output of the comb generator, is selected by a bandpass filter, its frequency is divided, e.g., by a direct digital synthesizer, and the result is compared, e.g., by a phase and frequency detector that receives a reference signal at its other input. The output of the phase and frequency detector is fed back, e.g., through a lowpass filter, to the voltage controlled oscillator.

A signal source with a wireless frequency reference. A signal loop includes an amplifier and a coupler. The magnitude of the loop gain in the signal loop is substantially equal to 1 at a steady-state amplitude of a signal at a fundamental frequency. A reference oscillator is coupled to the loop through the coupler, via a wireless link, and provides phase stabilization. The loop may include a nonlinear transmission line, to generate a comb output spectrum.

Wirelessly referenced multi-octave oscillator

The present disclosure is directed towards systems and method for actively tuning a phase locked loop based on vibration excitation levels experienced by the phase locked loop. A bandwidth of the phase locked loop can be actively increased or decreased based upon a detected vibration level. In an embodiment, the phase locked loop includes a controllable oscillator, an output module, a filter module and a detector. The filter module can be configured to receive a bandwidth control signal to modify a bandwidth of the phase locked loop based on a vibration signal. In an embodiment, the vibration signal corresponds to a vibration level experienced by the phased locked loop. The detector can be configured to receive a PLL output signal from the output module and to receive a PLL input signal.

Vibration optimizing intelligent phase locked loop

A frequency-agile frequency source. The frequency source includes an oscillator having an output and being configured to generate a signal at a first frequency at the output, a first direct digital synthesizer (DDS) having an output and a sampling clock input connected to the output of the oscillator, a filter amplifier block having an input directly connected to the output of the first DDS and an output, and a second DDS having a sampling clock input directly connected to the output of the filter amplifier block. The filter amplifier block is a substantially linear time-invariant element having a frequency response, the magnitude of the frequency response being at least 12 dB lower, at a second frequency within the first Nyquist zone of the first frequency, than at a third frequency above the first Nyquist zone of the first frequency.

Dynamically clocked DDS for spur optimization

A technology is provided for generating an output frequency. An input signal with a defined frequency may be received. The input signal may be split so that a first signal with the defined frequency of the input signal is received at a frequency multiplier and a second signal with the defined frequency of the input signal is received at a frequency mixer. The first signal may be multiplied by N, wherein N is a predefined integer. The first signal may be limited to a predetermined frequency and passed to the frequency mixer. The first signal and the second signal may be mixed to produce at least two mixed signals. A first output signal and a second output signal may be generated based on the at least two mixed signals.

Regenerative frequency multiplier

An analog-to-digital converter circuit for a radar apparatus, the analog-to-digital converter circuit including analog-to-digital converters that are electronically reconfigurable to operate in a multi-channel mode with a first bandwidth by clocking the ADCs in phase with one another, or a single-channel mode with a second bandwidth higher than the first bandwidth by clocking the ADCs out of phase with one another and optimizing the intermediate frequency for the respective mode.
