A transfer case for a vehicle is provided having a normal two wheel drive mode and a selective four wheel drive mode. The transfer case has a common motor for range shifting and clutch actuation and further has an anti-neutral drive biasing device preventing the range shifting assembly from dropping out of high or low gear to a neutral mode inadvertently.

A product may include a case, and a shaft that rotates may extend into the case. A bearing may support the shaft at the case. A seal may be positioned around the shaft outboard from the bearing. The bearing may have a first side facing the seal and a second side facing away from the seal. The case may define an inlet to an area between the bearing and the seal. A baffle may extend over the inlet on the second side and radially outside the bearing.

Distribution of oil to the input bearing and seal of a transfer case

A lubrication system for a transfer case includes a pump in fluid communication with a lubricant source and a power transfer assembly, as well as one or more valves positioned along fluid flow paths between the lubricant source and the power transfer assembly. The valves may allow full fluid flow or may restrict fluid flow to various components of the transfer case as conditions warrant. A fluid guide insert may be used to help direct lubricant flow to the components.

Transfer case pump with multiple flow paths to internal components

An actuator for a transfer case includes an actuator member, a face cam mechanism, and a motor. The actuator member includes a circumferential flange and an annular body extending from an inner periphery of the circumferential flange. The annular body includes a circumferential slot opposite the flange defined between two end walls formed by the annular body. One of the end walls includes a bearing member coupled thereto. The face cam mechanism includes a follower coupled to a cam member. The cam member is configured to displace axially when rotated. The follower is disposed within the slot. In a first range of motion, the annular member is rotated independent of the face cam mechanism. In a second range of motion, the bearing member engages the follower to rotate the second cam member relative to the first cam member, and the follower moves axially along the bearing member.

Fluid retention and filtration element for a hydraulic transfer case

A transfer case includes an input shaft, a primary output shaft, a secondary output shaft, and an actuator. The primary output shaft is coupled to the input shaft with a gear reduction mechanism. The secondary output shaft is selectively coupleable to the primary output shaft with a secondary torque transfer mechanism. The actuator includes a first actuation mechanism, a second actuation mechanism, and a driver gear assembly. The first actuation mechanism is configured to operate the gear reduction mechanism. The second actuation mechanism is configured to operate the secondary torque transfer mechanism. The drive gear assembly includes a gear plate member, a sense plate member configured to engage the first actuation mechanism, and a hub member configured to engage the second actuation. The sense plate member and the hub member are independently coupled to the gear plate member to rotate in unison with the gear plate member.

A transfer case () for translating torque from an engine () to first and second differentials (), including: a housing (), a primary shaft () supported in the housing () with an input end () in communication with the engine () and an output end () in communication with the first differential (), a secondary shaft () spaced from the primary shaft () and in communication with the second differential (), a clutch assembly () in communication with the shafts () for selectively translating torque therebetween, and a sleeve () operatively attached to the primary shaft () between ends (). Transfer case for an automotive powertrain system

A vehicle transfer case is provided including input and output shafts mounted within a housing, a secondary shaft selectively driven by the output shaft, a first hub having an inner diameter splined section having a first extreme neutral position with exclusive torsional engagement with the output shaft, and in a second intermediate high position having torsional engagement with the output shaft and input shafts, and in a third extreme low position having exclusive torsional engagement with the input shaft. A second hub is provided, rotatably mounted on the first hub and axially fixed therewith. The second hub is torsionally fixed to the output shaft, and a shift fork is provided to translate the second hub. A planetary gear set is provided, having a ring gear, a plurality of planet gears connected to each other by a carrier and a sun gear; and wherein in the extreme neutral position the output shaft is disengaged from the input shaft, and in the second intermediate position the input shaft is directly connected to the output shaft without rotating the planetary gear set, and in the extreme third position the first hub torsionally connects the input shaft to the sun gear, and the second hub is connected with the carrier.

A lubrication system () for a transfer case () includes a shaft () having a lubricant inlet port () and a hollow bore () for transporting lubricant within the shaft (), a pump () having a pump housing () and one or more pumping elements () that are disposed in the pump housing (), and a clutch assembly (). The clutch assemblyhas an engaged position in which rotational force from the shaft () is transferred to the one or more pumping elements () to cause operation of the pump (), and a disengaged position in which rotational force from the shaft () is not transferred to the one or more pumping elements (). An actuator () is operable to cause the clutch assembly () to move between the engaged position and the disengaged position.

A lubrication system () for a transfer case () includes a pump () in fluid communication with a lubricant source () and a power transfer assembly as well as a valve () positioned along a fluid flow path between the lubricant source () and the power transfer assembly. The valve () includes a valve inlet (), a first valve inlet (), a first valve outlet () that does not restrict flow of the lubricant along the fluid flow path in a first state, a second valve outlet () that is operable to restrict flow of the lubricant along the fluid flow path in a second state, and a control that is operable to open the first valve outlet () in the first state and open the second valve outlet () in the second state.

Transfer case lubrication system with pump control

A transfer case and hydraulic clutch assembly for a motor vehicle driveline include a hydraulic fluid circuit in communication with a cavity disposed opposite a piston from a clutch pack for delivering pressurized fluid to the cavity for biasing the piston towards the clutch pack thereby activating the clutch. The transfer case and hydraulic clutch assembly also include a lubricant fluid circuit that is in communication with the chain that links the input sprocket to the output sprocket during use, as the chain rotates around the input sprocket and output sprocket, the lubricant fluid drips from or is sprayed from the chain. At least part of this released fluid is captured by a screen disposed above the hydraulic fluid reservoir. The screen removes any metal particles or debris and then passes the screen fluid into the hydraulic fluid reservoir thereby replenishing the hydraulic fluid reservoir without resorting to a time consuming and costly maintenance procedure.

Transfer case and hydraulic clutch for driveline with active hydraulic fluid reservoir refill

An apparatus for reducing contaminants in lubrication for a transfer case. The apparatus utilizes the tendencies of a transfer case to splash and otherwise project internal sealed lubricant in numerous directions within the case, along with gravitational forces acting on the lubricant, to passively filter and otherwise remove particulate contaminates from the lubrication. The apparatus for containing lubricated mechanical components comprising a housing and a vessel. The vessel has an open top. The vessel is located proximate an inside surface of the housing. A filter is secured to the vessel. Lubrication contained within the housing flows along an inside surface of the housing into the vessel through the open top, and further flows out of the vessel through the filter.
