An internal combustion engine direct injection fuel injector system includes a fuel rail which is welded to a fuel rail bracket. A fuel rail mounting sleeve has a flange and is bolted to the engine cylinder head. The bracket fits around the flange and is held in place by a steel washer and a pair of stepped isolator washers which are positioned in pockets formed on either side of the bracket. The isolator washers serve as springs which form a shock absorber between the bracket and cylinder head. Compression forces on the bracket and isolator washers are controlled by bolt tension.

Fuel rail mount

A direct fuel injection fuel system includes a fuel rail cap and a fuel injector received within the fuel rail cap. A clip extends through slots in the fuel rail cap and engages the fuel rail to support the fuel rail within the fuel rail cap. The fuel rail cap includes a groove adjoining the slots to accept a portion of the clip. The clip engages a shoulder on the fuel injector assembly. The shoulder may be on the injector body or on an adapter secured to the injector body.

Fuel injector mount

A resilient clip for retaining a fuel injector housing to a fuel rail cup. The clip includes a pair of opposing sidewalls. Each one of the pair of opposing sidewalls of the clip has a frontal portion and a rear portion. The frontal portion has a pair of inwardly extending shoulders for insertion into a pair of opposing slotted regions into the fuel injector housing. The frontal portion includes a pair of opposing slots formed in the frontal sidewall portions of the clip. The slots of the clip are elevated above the shoulders therein for receiving portions of the lip of the cup. The rear portion has a pair of opposing sidewalls and a backwall. The opposing sidewalls and the backwall of the rear portion of the rear portion form a slot for the clip. The slot is for receiving a tab of the fuel rail cup. When the injector housing, clip, and cup are assembled, the lip of the cup is disposed in the slots of the clip, the shoulders of the clip are disposed in the slotted region of the fuel injector housing, and the tab is disposed within the slot of the clip. Circumferential rotation of the clip about the longitudinal axis of the cup relative to the cup is restrained by engagement of sidewalls of the tab of the cup with the sidewalls of the clip. Circumferential rotation of the clip relative to the injector housing is restrained by engagement of the stops with edges of the shoulders of the clip. Axial motion of the fuel injector housing relative to the cup is restrained by engagement of the shoulders of the clip with the slotted portion of the fuel injector housing and by engagement of the lip of the cup with edges of the slots in the clip.

Fuel injector retention arrangement

A modular integrated intake manifold (10) for a V-type internal combustion engine (20). A fuel module (16) nests between cylinder heads (28, 30) and has through-passages (42) leading to intake valves in the heads. An air cleaner module (12), which has an air box (60) within which intake air is filtered, also closes on one of the heads (28) to cover the exhaust and intake valves and the valve operating mechanisms of that head. A plenum/runner module (14) has a plenum that closes on the other of the heads (30) to cover the exhaust and intake valves and the valve operating mechanisms of that head. Runners (160, 162, 164, 172, 174, 176) have respective combustion air entrances disposed within a plenum chamber space (142) of the plenum and run to the through-passages of the fuel module. The runners are part of a runner pack (132) that has both complete (160, 162, 164) and incomplete (166, 168, 170) runners and that when assembled into the plenum, completes the incomplete runners. The integrated manifold includes a self-contained PCV system (104, 106, 108).
