An electromechanical lock according to the present invention includes a lock extension and a blocking module having an interior region. A pivot bolt is mounted in the interior region for rotation about a rotation axis between a nominal position and an unsecured position. First and second blockers are also disposed in the interior for movement between their respective nominal positions and an unblocking position. The lock further includes an override disposed in the interior region for movement between a nominal position and an override position. The lock is in a secured condition when the first and second blockers and the override are in their respective nominal positions and an unsecured condition when the second blocker is in its unblocking position.

A rotation detection system for detecting the rotation of a lock dial includes a magnet coupled to the lock dial to generate a changing magnetic field in response to rotation of the lock dial, a sensor disposed near enough to the magnet to detect the magnetic field and provide a sensor output signal indicative of the magnetic field, and a controller coupled to the sensor for receiving the sensor output signal, the controller providing a controller output signal in response to a change in the sensor output signal. An alarm interface can receive the controller output signal and provide an alarm signal.

Non-intrusive dial rotation detection of high security locks

A lock assembly for securing a container having an interior region is provided. In one illustrative embodiment, the lock assembly includes a keypad having a plurality of buttons on a first surface of the keypad, a light-emitting diode, and a bezel surrounding at least a portion of the keypad. The bezel includes a reflective surface positioned to reflect a light from the light-emitting diode, the reflected light illuminating the plurality of buttons.

A lock assembly (') is provided that includes a housing (), a rotary bolt () or a translating bolt (&#x2032;), and a bolt blocker () that moves between a blocking position blocking movement of the bolts (&#x2032;) and an unblocking position permitting the bolts (&#x2032;) to move to a retracted position. The lock assemblies (&#x2032;) are resistant to shocks being applied to the locks assemblies (&#x2032;) in an effort to open the lock assemblies (&#x2032;) without authorization.

A dead bolt lock automatically blocks the extended bolt to prevent externally-applied force from thrusting the bolt back into the lock case, and in the event of physical attack the lock responds by prolonging or perpetuating the dead bolt blocking condition. A push-pull lock has a bolt whose motion in both directions is stopped in response to detection of a rise in motor current above a certain level: a cushioning arrangement allows the current-limiting feature to be implemented without risk of damage to the motor, gear teeth or other drive components. A re-locker arrangement includes an angled flange that is part of a motor-supporting bracket; when forcibly pressed, the flange breaks plastic pins to release a spring-biased re-locker wire to block the bolt from being withdrawn, and when the wire is in the dead bolting position an extension of the re-locker wire engages a ridge in the lock's case to prevent the re-locker from being manipulated back to its original position. Either lock can control the position of a bolt works blocking element that selectively engages a lever-driven mechanism that blocks and unblocks the door from being opened. A sensor switch, especially for use on the push-pull lock, tells the lock when the mechanism is in a secured position, so that the lock is automatically re-locked and the user does not have to manually extend the bolt. Finally, the system has a keypad tampering detection and response system, remote enable/disable unit, duress detection and response unit, low-battery sensing arrangement, bolt extension indication feature, adjustable bolt throw feature, and audit trail feature.

A user of a self-powered electronic combination lock rotates an outer dial to cause generators to generate energy for storage in a capacitor bank. The user then rotates an inner dial to cause a microcontroller to sequentially display a combination of numbers, and presses the inner dial to select a displayed number. The microcontroller determines direction and extent of motion of the inner dial by receiving signals derived from Wiegand sensors placed in proximity to a magnetized disc which rotates integrally with the inner dial, and controls the display of numerals on an LCD display accordingly. When the microcontroller determines that a correct combination has been entered, it activates a motor to move a motor cam to act directly on a locking lever so that the locking lever can engage a drive cam integrally linked with the inner dial, to allow the inner dial to withdraw the lock's bolt. Software features, as well as power level monitoring features, cause the locking lever to be moved away from the drive cam to prevent the bolt from being withdrawn if it has not already been withdrawn within a given time window. Integral bearing/retaining members make the lock dials tamper-evident. After a given number of successive incorrect combination entries, an 'override' combination, which is preferably a longer, mathematical variation of normal combinations, is necessary to open the lock.
