A method of determining a condition of an electric submersible pump (ESP) includes gathering acceleration data from a first accelerometer and a second accelerometer. The first accelerometer and the second accelerometer are affixed to the ESP. The first accelerometer is oriented orthogonally with respect to the second accelerometer. The method further includes obtaining orbit data from the acceleration data, determining a magnitude and/or phase angle of a harmonic of a rotational frequency of a motor of the ESP based on the orbit data, and determining a condition of the ESP based on the magnitude and/or phase angle of the harmonic.

Disclosed rotor assemblies can be configured to address differential thermal expansion in the rotor assembly during ESP motor use. Some rotor assembly embodiments can employ an improved stacking technique to minimize differential thermal expansion issues by removing certain components from the axial stack of supporting components of the rotor assembly. Alternatively, or in conjunction, some rotor assembly embodiments can use a biasing element which is configured to compensate for the differential axial thermal expansion, tolerance stack-up, and/or gravity.

Rotor bearings for ESP motors can include anti-rotation tabs configured to engage, for example between a bearing bushing and a stator of the ESP motor. For example, prior to insertion of the rotor bearing within the stator, the anti-rotation tabs may be held in place within axial slots in the outer surface of a bearing bushing using one or more retaining plates. The retaining plates and the bearing bushing may be configured to allow for axial insertion of the retaining plates onto the bearing bushing and then rotation of the retaining plate with respect to the bearing bushing to retain the anti-rotation tab on the bearing bushing. Such systems and methods may be particularly useful for ceramic bearing bushings.

A bearing assembly for an electrical motor of an ESP pump assembly comprising an outer bearing sleeve with an inner surface and an anti-rotation device rotationally coupling the outer sleeve to a stator and an inner bearing sleeve with an outer surface and an anti-rotation device coupling the inner bearing sleeve to a drive shaft. A fluid film gap located between the outer surface and the inner surface generates a high pressure zone and a low pressure zone in response to a rotational motion of the inner bearing sleeve relative to the outer bearing sleeve. The high pressure zone generates a fluid exit zone and the low pressure zone generates a fluid inlet zone for the working volume of fluid within the fluid film gap. A fluid supply path with ports at the sides of the bearing can exchange a volume of cooling fluid with the volume of working fluid within the fluid film.

A connector assembly comprising a pin connector assembly, a socket connector assembly, and an insulating member. The pin connector assembly comprises a generally cylindrical shape with an outer surface, an inner spring, and mechanically coupled to an electrical cable. The socket connector assembly comprises a generally cylindrical in shape with an inner surface, an outer spring, and mechanically coupled to an electrical cable. The contact surface stress between the pin connector and socket connector can be increased by the inner spring, the outer spring, or both. The contact resistance of the connectors is reduced by the increase in contact surface stress via the spring force. The insulating member can be threadingly coupled to the mated connectors.

The ESP electric motor comprises a drive shaft; a first metal compliance ring located around the drive shaft; a second metal compliance ring located around the drive shaft; a first bearing sleeve located around the drive shaft, located around the first metal compliance ring, and located around the second metal compliance ring, wherein there is an interference fit between the inside of the first bearing sleeve and the first metal compliance ring and between the inside of the first bearing sleeve and the second metal compliance ring; and a second bearing sleeve located around the first bearing sleeve and located inside an inner bore of a stator of the electric motor.
