A method is provided for processing a signal containing regular or quasi-regular elements of unwanted signal. The method establishes timing characteristics of the unwanted signal elements in a portion of the signal. A time domain window function is generated using the established timing characteristics. The generated window function is applied to the signal portion to selectively reduce the amplitude of the unwanted signal elements relative to the amplitude of other elements of the signal.

Described herein is a method for signal regeneration, particularly, of the signal type transmitted by cellular base stations used in cellular telephone network systems. It is sometimes necessary to regenerate an accurate replica of a transmitted signal, by removing any errors that are present and/or compensate for any degradation that occur during transmission. The signal structure of signals transmitted within the cellular network systems is of a known form with predefined characteristics such as synchronization signals, error correction bursts or training sequences. The method includes determining frame timing of the received signal, identifying the locations of sequences within the signal from the frame timing, identifying the structure of the sequences, estimating phase shift values at the locations of the sequences, demodulating the symbol stream using the estimated phase shift values and the structure of the sequences, correcting symbol errors by various techniques and remodulating the symbol stream using the phase shift values to regenerate the signal that is substantially identical to the one that would have been received directly from the transmitter over a high quality land-line.

Signal regeneration

Described herein is a method for determining the amount of interference in a received signal that comprises a wanted signal and a plurality of interfering signals. The method comprises selecting a plurality of first known structures in the wanted signal, processing the received signal in accordance with said plurality of first known structures to derive amplitude values corresponding to the said first known structures; and using the amplitude values to determine wanted signal and interfering signal power values. Additionally, a calibration step can be included to convert the power values into absolute power measurements.

Described herein is a method of enhancing signals received by a receiver in a mobile telecommunications network. The method comprises correlating the received signals to produce a correlation and making a selection from the correlation to create a replica for enhancing the received signals.

An automobile radar which serves to provide data for cruise control or other systems in a host vehicle, comprising means for measuring radar boresight misalignment by detecting the presence of apparent variations in the spacing of stationary objects from the direction of motion of the host vehicle and utilizing such detection to compensate for any misalignment.

A cost-effective FMCW radar equipment has a digital signal processor which controls at least one antenna through an oscillator and produces a mixed signal from transmitted and received signals modulated with a triangular waveform. The mixed signal is subjected to Fast Fourier transformation for each modulation phase (up and down) of each measurement cycle in order to obtain object frequencies, which are assigned to each target object, from the determined maxima. Object tracks which are formed from the object frequencies extend back over a plurality of measurement cycles and are used to form estimated values for those measured values of the object frequencies which are to be expected in the next measurement cycle. The mutually associated object frequencies of both modulation phases of a measurement cycle are determined and the distance and relative speed of each target object are determined from them.
