A method for facilitating root cause analysis of a software crash by core dump analysis is disclosed. The method comprises receiving a core dump file relating to a software program, identifying unique source code lines in the core dump file for each running thread at the crash time, and determining unique source code lines as conspicuous source code lines depending on an abstraction level value indicating a number of occurrences of the conspicuous source code line in different threads. Furthermore, the method comprises determining an abstraction ratio as a function of a number of conspicuous source code lines and a number of unique source code lines, evaluating whether the predefined abstraction level value has to be adjusted by determining unique source code line as a conspicuous source code line and determining an abstraction ratio, and outputting the conspicuous source code lines and an assessment value for the abstraction ratio.

Self-optimizing analysis system for core dumps

A method, system and computer program product for providing support for identification of the problem root cause in a computing system. Knowledge base mapping monitoring programs with respective to one or more technical problem definitions and a predefined system configuration are provided. The technical problems are defined using a predefined data structure. An inquiry relating to the computing system is received from a requester. The inquiry indicates a technical problem statement of the computing system. The received inquiry is parsed for constructing a problem description in accordance with the predefined data structure. A set of monitoring programs of the knowledge base may be identified using the problem description. Using software and/or hardware configuration data of the computing system, the set of monitoring programs may be instantiated in a monitor system. The instantiated programs may be provided to the requester as support for identification of the problem root cause.

A computer-implemented method, system, and/or computer program product monitors stored procedures that are executed in a database management system. A determination is made, for a stored procedure that is executed in a database management system, of an identification of the stored procedure and event data related to the stored procedure. The event data includes when the stored procedure began and ended executing, an SQL identifier for an SQL statement in the stored procedure, and a counter of how many times the SQL statement executed. The database management system provides values of parameters used when executing the SQL statement. These values are then correlated with the count of how many times the SQL statement executed.

A method, system, and computer program product for providing information of a monitored system through a graphical user interface (GUI) of a monitoring application to support simplified or automatic identification of events. The method includes, among other possible operations, initiating an event pattern script recording. The method also includes keeping track of user actions on said GUI and on activated GUI panels during said event pattern script recording by requesting a user to specify, once the user activates a further GUI panel, which panel information in a current GUI panel triggered activation of said further GUI panel and based on what criterion the triggering occurred. The user specified information results in triggering information. A method for tuning a database system is disclosed. A tuning strategy is received comprising a first procedure to determine a suggested tuning action, and a second procedure to measure performance of the database system. The suggested tuning action is determined and pre-action performance measured according to the respective procedures. Undo information that indicates how to undo the database system state change of the suggested tuning action is recorded in a database system state history. After executing the suggested tuning action, post-action database system performance is measured according to the second procedure. When the post-action performance is lower than the pre-action performance, the database system state change is undone using the undo information. Embodiments enabling to create new tuning strategies, downloading existing tuning strategies, sharing own tuning strategies and changing existing tuning strategies are disclosed as well.

Methods and systems, including computer program products, for monitoring and analyzing a database performance problem stored in a separate performance database with cube-based analysis program tools. The methods and systems include means for detecting one or more performance problems, mapping performance problems to cubes, filling the cubes with performance data collected before, and outputting the filled cubes to an output interface usable to deploy said cubes for cube-based database performance analysis.
