A method and system for assisting a user having a role and a qualification. In accordance with this method, a software tool is provided that is adapted to limit a user to a functional limitation predefined by a first role and a data access limitation predefined by a qualification. The method comprises the steps of receiving a request for assistance from said user, accessing said software tool with a customer care role having a view functionality only limitation, and simulating said first role and said qualification while operating in said customer care role, to assist said user. In the preferred embodiment, the simulation functionalities that the customer care role has, enable that customer care role to simulate update and create functionalities. Also, preferably, the customer care role may use the user's identification to obtain access to the software tool.

Simulation of computer application function to assist a user

An invoice processing system includes a requisition and catalog server (referred to as a Req/Cat Web, or RCW, server), a procurement services system (SAP), and a requester terminal (browser). ReqCat Web allows requesters to input requirements (requisitions) which ReqCat then passes to SAP, which creates purchase orders, sends them to vendors for fulfillment, receives the vendors invoices, and prepares the payments. Commodities may be designated as either receivable or non-receivable, and this designation is stored in ReqCat web and passed to SAP on inbound requisitions. Payments on invoices received for non-receivable items are approved via a positive confirmation process, and payments on invoices received for receivable items are approved via a negative confirmation process. Positive acceptance of an invoice by a requester of commodities triggers automatic generation of a goods received (move) ticket.

The method comprises the steps of receiving a language selection and a web page selection from a user; and translating said web page into said language, including translating a pull-down list of searchable fields, and for each said field, translating items on one or more selection lists, wherein a code is associated with each item. The method comprises the further steps of providing said translated web page to said user, including providing script enabling said user to select one of said searchable fields and one or more of said items; receiving the codes associated with the selected items, and performing a search in response thereto; and translating results from said search into said language, and providing the translated results to the user. Preferably, the translating step includes the step of converting the data structure of a date or an amount into the selected language.

A system and method for procuring non-production commodities for use by employees of a commercial enterprise includes associating the employee with a user profile comprising information relating a status of the employee within the enterprise, automatically generating a requisition for the employee indicating a desired commodity and quantity thereof, and, utilizing the user profile information and the desired commodity to enable employee searching of specific catalogs provided in a database storage device for indication of the desired commodity in a requisition. The system and method further provides for the automatic generation of a purchase order based on the requisition, the forwarding of the purchase order to the vendor for processing the order without a third party intervenor, and provides a mechanism for receiving vendor purchase order acknowledgments and approving vendor initiated changes to the purchase order without third party intervention.
