The disclosed technology relates to lubricants for compression ignition internal combustion engines, particularly those demonstrating at least one of improved seals performance, reduced deposit formation, and excellent durability. The present invention provides a low zinc lubricating composition comprising (a) an oil of lubricating viscosity, (b) a borated dispersant, and (c) a metal-free organo-phosphorus anti-wear additive, wherein the lubricating composition is substantially free of a metal containing sulfur coupled alkyl phenol compound. Further, the low zinc lubricating composition contains zinc in an amount less than 600 ppm by weight of the composition.

Low zinc lubricant composition

A lubricant composition comprising an oil of lubricating viscosity and 0.01 to 5 percent by weight of a substantially sulfur-free alkyl phosphate amine salt, where at least 30 mole percent of the phosphorus atoms are in an alkyl pyrophosphate salt structure, exhibits good antiwear performance. In the phosphate amine salt, at least 80 mole percent of the alkyl groups are typically secondary alkyl groups of 3 to 12 carbon atoms.

Alkyl phosphate amine salts for use in lubricants

A lubricant composition comprising an oil of lubricating viscosity and about 0.01 to about 5 percent by weight of a (thio)phosphoric acid salt ('phos-amine salt') of at least one hydrocarbyl amine. The hydrocarbyl amine may be a hindered hydrocarbyl amine, an aromatic hydrocarbyl amine, or a combination thereof.

The invention is directed to a zinc-free lubricating composition for an internal combustion engine containing a phosphorus anti-wear agent, an ashless antioxidant, and an oxyalkylated phenol compound. The lubricating composition provides wear protection, deposit control, and improved acid control with reduced levels of metal-containing additives.

In accordance with the present invention, it has been discovered that an additive which is substantially insoluble in, has low solubility in and/or is otherwise incompatible with a functional fluid, may be supplied to the functional fluid by use of a gel composition and/or a solid additive composition containing the additive, such that the functional fluid can receive the benefit of the supplied additive and/or contain levels of the additive not otherwise achievable by conventional delivery method due to the incompatibility of the additive with the functional fluid.

Star polymer lubricating composition

The invention provides a lubricating composition containing an oil of lubricating viscosity and a calcium-containing detergent with a soap content of 0.06 wt % to 1.6 wt % of the lubricating composition. The lubricating composition is suitable for lubricating an internal combustion engine.
