The disclosure involves a novel amine ether acid salt surfactant. The amine constituent of the surfactant may include ether amines or fatty-based amines. The ether acid constituent of the surfactant, in particular, imparts liquidity to the surfactant. Hydrophobic regions may be included on both the amine and ether acid enhancing the surfactancy of the composition. The novel surfactant is versatile and is useful in many different applications.

An improved asphalt roof-coating composition which includes asphalt, clay, and a novel hindered acid/amine salt surfactant. The surfactant comprises an acid constituent which has at least two alkyl groups bonded to the alpha carbon and an amine constituent comprising a variety of primary, secondary and tertiary amines. The composition has excellent physical properties including good viscosity and gel stability.

Asphalt-base coating composition with novel hindered acid/amine salt

An improved asphalt roof-coating composition which includes asphalt cutback, clay, and a novel salt surfactant. The surfactant comprises an acid and alkoxylated fatty amines and alkoxylated ether amines. The novel surfactant amines are inexpensive and impart desirable physical properties to the composition.

Asphalt-based coating composition with alkoxylated amine-derived salt

The disclosure involves an improved asphalt roof-coating composition which includes asphalt, clay, and a novel ether amine-acid-complex surfactant. The surfactant comprises an alkyloxyalkylamine, preferably having an alkyl chain with from 8 to 20 carbon atoms and an acid present in an amount in excess of the amount required to neutralize the amine. The composition is less expensive than prior art formulations and has improved viscosity and gel stability.
