An improved web-winding means with a durable thermoplastic polyester resin or polyester resin blend support structure and web capture slot (gate) formed in an interior portion of the support structure. The interior portion is joined to an inner annular surface that has increased lubricity, toughness and creep resistance resulting in decreased debris generation plus increased structural integrity and dimensional stability.

An intraoral x-ray film packet having non-lead radiation shielding for shielding scattered radiation. The packet includes a film chip and a radiation shielding member. The film chip has two sides and the radiation shielding element is disposed on one side of the film chip to provide radiation shielding when the film packet is exposed to radiation. The radiation shielding element is made of a material including a thermoplastic and a non-lead metal powder and/or non-lead metal compound. In one configuration, the film chip and the radiation shielding element are disposed within a light-tight envelope. In another configuration, the radiation shielding element is one side of the envelope, wherein the envelope has two opposing sides, and the chip is disposed within the envelope.

An intraoral x-ray film packet is taught which has an outer envelope wherein one of the two opposing outer sheets is more rigid than the other such that it has a tensile modulus of at least about 700 Kg/cm . This is preferably accomplished by making both sheets from a thermoplastic material such as PVC and reducing the amount of plasticizer in the more rigid of the two sheets to less than 30%. A continuous perimetric seal is formed affixing the two outer sheets together and forming a perimetric laminated edge which is substantially coplanar with the more rigid of the two sheets. A film chip resides between the two outer sheets. A comfort-enhancing perimetric edge bead is injection molded directly onto the perimetric laminated edge.

An intraoral x-ray film packet is taught which includes compounding flavor/scent chemistry into a thermoplastic material. The thermoplastic material is then used to form a molded thermoplastic frame (preferably injection molded) thereby providing an intraoral radiographic film packet which has a comfort enhancing perimetric edge which is preferably permanently integrated therewith during manufacture. The comfort of the intraoral radiographic film packet is augmented through the addition of pleasing flavors and/or scents incorporated into the thermoplastic material. This flavor and/or scent can be fully compounded into the comfort edge thermoplastic materials as noted above, or alternatively, it can be compounded directly into the thermoplastic materials used to produce the packet layers prior to film insertion and thermal seal.
