In a computer-implemented method for automatic network configuration of a pre-configured hyper-converged computing device network configuration information is requested from another pre-configured hyper-converged computing device already configured on a network. The network configuration information is received from the another pre-configured hyper-converged computing device. The network configuration is automatically performed by the pre-configured hyper-converged computing device such that the pre-configured hyper-converged computing device is automatically configured to the network.

Exemplary methods, apparatuses, and systems receive a request to bind a socket for a computer application to a tag. The tag is mapped to a network address for each of a subset of interfaces. The request identifies the computer application using a port number. The subset of interfaces includes one or more interfaces within the computer and less than all interfaces within the computer. An interface within the subset of interfaces receives a protocol data unit (PDU) including the port number included in the bind request and a destination address. The received PDU is delivered via the socket in response to resolving a mapping between the tag included in the bind request and the destination address of the PDU and further based upon determining the port number included in the bind request was included in the received PDU.

A pre-configured hyper-converged computing device for supporting a virtualization infrastructure includes a first independent server node at a first location comprising a first server node unique identifier, a second independent server node at a second location comprising a second server node unique identifier. The first server node unique identifier correlates to the first location. The second server node unique identifier correlates to the second location such that an exact location of the first or second independent server node are determined within the pre-configured hyper-converged computing device.

In a computer-implemented method for auto-discovery of pre-configured hyper-converged computing devices on a network, upon initial connection to a network, an auto-discovery request is automatically broadcasting over the network, by a first pre-configured hyper-converged computing device for supporting a virtualization infrastructure, to other pre-configured hyper-converged computing devices on the network. A response to the auto-discovery request is received from the other pre-configured hyper-converged computing devices for auto-discovery of the other pre-configured hyper-converged computing devices on the network.

A method for distributing logging and tracing information in a network node is disclosed. In one embodiment, log messages generated locally on the line cards are collected by Secondary Log Managers residing on the line cards. The Secondary Log Managers process the collected messages and transfers at least part of them to a Primary Log Manager residing at the control module. Then, the Primary Log Manager can output the logging and tracing messages to a system monitor or to other output devices, such as a Command Line Interface (CLI) shell or a file.

Rules for classifying traffic in a communications network are set by collecting traffic data related to traffic that is input into a network node, processing the traffic data that is collected, and setting classification rules in response to the processed traffic data, wherein the set classification rules are used to classify subsequent input traffic. In an embodiment, subsequent traffic is classified according to the set classification rules. In another embodiment, traffic conditioning rules are also set in response to the processed traffic data and subsequent input traffic is conditioned according to the set traffic conditioning rules.
