A light source capsule () having a capsule envelope () with a wall () defining an enclosed volume (), and having a sealed portion (). A light source () is positioned in the enclosed volume () and has deformable electrical leads-ins () extending through the sealed portion () of the capsule envelope (). Stiff lead-in engagers () are aligned with the sealed portion () of the capsule envelope () and are electrically coupled to the electrical leads (), the lead-in engagers being electrically conductive. The lead-in engagers are fitted through apertures in the base () of a lamp envelope () to complete a lamp ().

PAR lamp

A lamp () has a light source () with a distal portion () and a proximal portion (), the proximal portion () comprising a press seal () having a given cross-section. A lamp envelope () receives the light source (), the envelope () being arrayed about a longitudinal axis () and having a base () generally orthogonal to the longitudinal axis (). A clip-receiving aperture () is formed in the base (), and at least one clip locator surface () is formed in the base () adjacent the clip-receiving aperture (). A clip () is positioned in the clip-receiving aperture (), the clip having a passage () shaped and formed to receive the press seal () of the light source () therein. The clip () has at least one first retainer () and at least one second retainer (), the at least one first retainer () being shaped and formed to engage the at least one clip locator surface (), whereby the clip () is located within the clip-receiving aperture (). The at least one second retainer () is shaped and formed to secure the clip () to the base (), and at least one third retainer () is shaped and formed to secure the press seal () of the light source () within the clip ().

Par lamp

A lamp includes a reflector having a passageway opening to a heel of the reflector, a lamp capsule having a lead that extends rearward through the passageway, a conductive clip that spans a diameter of the heel and that has tabs that extend forward at opposite sides of the heel and an arm that extends rearward, the arm being attached to a portion of the lead that projects out of the passageway, and a base that is attached to the heel and that engages the tabs at the opposite sides of the heel. The arm holds the lamp capsule in place and electrically connects the lamp capsule to the base. The arm may be a semi-detached central portion of the clip that is bent to be substantially parallel to an axis of the lead.

A compact PAR lamp () has a hollow body () arrayed along a longitudinal axis () and has an open end () and a substantially closed neck end () and containing a light source capsule () within the hollow body () and coaxial with the longitudinal axis (). The light source capsule () has electrical lead-ins () that extend therefrom and exit via the neck end (). A first parabolic reflector () is formed within the body () and has a wide portion () adjacent the open end () and a narrow portion () spaced therefrom along the longitudinal axis (). A second reflector () is formed within the body () and extends from the narrow portion () into the neck end (). A lens () closes the open (), and a base () is attached to the closed neck end (). In an alternate version the light source () comprises an arc discharge vessel () containing electrodes () having termini (') defining an arc gap () therebetween and the focal points of the second reflector (when the second reflector is ellipsoidal) correspond with the termini (&#x2032;).

A lens with lenticules arranged in a spiral pattern is described. In polar coordinates the centers of successive lenticules are radially and angularly spaced by spacing factors including Phi, the conjugate of the Golden Ratio. The resulting spiraling lenticule pattern is free of internal harmonics that lead to striation patterns in the lens refracted light. At the same time the size of the beam spot can be set by reflector size and lenticule profile.

An infrared heat lamp has a reflector body closed by a lens and having a source of infrared radiation positioned within the body. The lens has a plurality of lenticules formed thereon to provide substantially uniform radiant intensity within a 50&#xb0; cone on a planar surface spaced from the lens, the radiant intensity varying as the inverse of (cos &#x3b2;). In a preferred embodiment all of the lenticules have a parabolic shape.

A support device is provided for use with an electric lamp having a sealed outer envelope that encloses an environment, and a lamp capsule and end-of-life device positioned within such environment. The support device serves to support the lamp capsule and the end-of-life device within the outer envelope. The end-of-life device is electrically connected in series with the lamp circuit through the support device.

An efficient and safe lamp with a tungsten halogen capsule may be formed by using a two stage pyrophoric fuse as part of the electrical path to the capsule. The thin walled lamp with tungsten halogen capsule and two stage pyrophoric fuse yields a more efficient, less expensive and yet still safe tungsten halogen lamp. The thin walled lamp with tungsten halogen capsule and pyrophoric fuse provides a safe, thin walled outer envelope tungsten halogen lamp, provide a lamp with an oxygen sensitive fuse operable in low wattage lamps, provides a method manufacturing a pyrophoric fuse sensitive to moderate temperatures, provides an inexpensive and practical, low wattage, thin walled tungsten halogen lamp with a pyrophoric fuse.

An electric lamp is provided which includes a sealed thin-walled outer envelope containing a fill gas having a high thermal conductivity. A lamp capsule is contained within the outer envelope and is in series with an oxidizable fuse also contained within the outer envelope. The fill gas serves to reduce the temperature of the fuse during normal operation of the lamp thereby reducing the power loss in the fuse, increasing overall lamp efficacy and eliminating glow of the fuse. The lamp capsule is quickly extinguished if the outer envelope is broken and the fuse exposed to air. In one embodiment, an incandescent lamp is provided wherein the lamp capsule is a tungsten halogen capsule, the fuse is a tungsten coil wire and the fill gas is helium.

An electric lamp assembly includes an electrodeless lamp, including an electrodeless lamp envelope, a transformer core disposed in proximity to the lamp envelope and an input winding disposed on the transformer core. The lamp envelope preferably comprises a closed-loop, tubular lamp envelope, and the transformer is preferably disposed around the lamp envelope. The electrodeless lamp envelope encloses a fill material for supporting a low pressure discharge. The electrodeless lamp further includes an amalgam located within the lamp envelope. The input winding receives radio frequency energy which produces a low pressure discharge in the lamp envelope. The electrodeless lamp includes a thermal bridge between the transformer core and the amalgam, so that the amalgam is heated by the transformer core during operation.
