A film receptive to a variety of different classes or kinds of inks, such as water based inks, solvent based inks and UV cured inks. The film includes a water based latex polymer, such as transparent film-forming core/shell latex polymers, a polar polymer, such as polymers having an ionic component to increase the receptivity of the coating to water-based inks, and a surfactant, such as an alkyaryl sulfonate, to prevent agglomeration of the latex polymer before it is formed into film. The preferred latex polymer is a core/shell latex polymer. The preferred polar polymer is chemically compatible with latex polymers and is sufficiently ionic or polar to improve the printability onto the film of water-based inks. The surfactant, which may be in the latex as manufactured or may be added separately, has a molecular structure that includes at least one hydrophobic moiety and at least one anionic group such as sulfates, sulfonates and the like.

Water-based ink-receptive coating

An organic particulate-filled adhesive is provided comprising ionomeric particulate dispersed in a polymer matrix containing water-soluble polymer or water-dispersible polymer. The adhesive preferably contains a plasticizer. If desired, in some formulations, the adhesive can contain additives, such as opacifying agents, skin cleansers, skin moisturizers, vitamins, and herbal extracts. The adhesive can have pressure sensitive adhesive properties, although such properties are not necessary. The adhesive can be formulated so as to be useful as a repulpable adhesive and as a cosmetic adhesive.

Organic particulate-filled adhesive

A method of making ionomeric particulate compositions by suspension polymerization are provided. The method comprises the steps of (a) forming an aqueous phase comprising an acid monomer, a metal oxide, and at least a first and a second surfactant, the first being a monomer surfactant; (b) forming an oil phase comprising at least one vinyl monomer; and (c) suspension polymerizing the aqueous phase with the oil phase to yield an ionomeric particulate composition. The resulting particulates do not have pressure sensitive tack. Particle size in the range of less than 10 micrometers can be made. The ionomeric particulate is made in the absence of a chain transfer agent and thus can have high molecular weight.

Method of making ionomeric particulates by suspension polymerization

An ionomeric particulate composition made by suspension polymerization is provided. The composition comprises at least one vinyl monomer; an acid monomer; a metal oxide; at least two surfactants, one of which is a monomer surfactant; and polyacrylamide. The particulates' size can be controlled by use of the polyacrylainide and various surfactants, and not through the conventional means of homogenization. Particle size in the range of less than 10 micrometers can be made. The ionomeric particulate is made in the absence of a chain transfer agent and thus can have high molecular weight.

Ionomeric particulate composition

A nail polish or nail polish/enamel composition is applied to imperfections, errors, distortions or porosities in the model. The composition is thus used to correct the model's shape. The composition can be added at room temperature, and avoids the need to utilize high temperatures in the process of building the model. The nail polish or nail polish/enamel compositions may be utilized to add jewelry design elements to the model.

Jewelry models and an improved jewelry model produced therefrom

An electrically-conductive, pressure-sensitive adhesive composition having a polymeric matrix comprised of copolymers of hydrogen bond donating monomer (for example acrylic acid) and hydrogen bond accepting monomers (for example N-vinylpyrrolidone) is disclosed. The polymeric matrix is homogeneously mixed with a electrically-conductive plasticizing solution comprised of from 0% to 98% by weight water-soluble, polar organic compound (for example glycerol), 2% to 100% by weight water, and 0 to 12% by weight water-soluble salt. The compsition contains from about 12% to 50% by weight non-volatile copolymer matrix and the hydrogen bond donating sites on the copolymer matrix are from about 5% to about 95% neutralized. Free radical polymerization methods of making the composition and biomedical electrodes incorporating the composition are also described.

Electrically-conductive, pressure-sensitive adhesive and biomedical

A disposable biomedical electrode is disclosed wherein the electrically-conductive material between the electrode plate and the skin comprises a swellable, conformable, cohesive, hydrophilic, electrically-conductive adhesive formed by an improved solventless process. The adhesive precursor comprises a polyhydric alcohol, a non-ionic unsaturated free radically polymerizable material, a free radical initiator, a crosslinking agent and an ionizable salt. The adhesive precursor is polymerized after coating onto the electrode plate or releasable transfer sheet, preferably by exposure to ultraviolet radiation.

Conductive adhesive and biomedical electrode

A biomedical electrode having a conductive adhesive thereon which is derived from an essentially solventless process. The resulting adhesive is characterized in that it is a swellable, dermally-nonirritating conformable, cohesive, ionic, hydrophilic polymer.
