An electrical panelboard enclosure includes an enclosure housing with an interior equipment chamber accessible by way of a service entrance door. A service panel is configured to receive power from a main power source. A main power breaker has a main power breaker toggle switch and is positionable between a power-on state and a power-off state to selectively activate and deactivate the main power. A power cutoff switch mechanism is operable from outside the service entrance door and is positionable between a power-on state and a power-off state to mechanically engage and deactivate the main power breaker toggle switch and cutoff the main power without opening the service entrance door. A lockout system is operable to prevent the service entrance door from being secured in a closed position unless the main power breaker and the power cutoff switch mechanism are in the same state.

An electrical panelboard enclosure includes a primary service panel configured to receive power from a main power source and an alternate power source, an alternate power source connector array, and a distribution panel that delivers main or alternate power to subsidiary load circuits. A service transfer switch unit includes a main power breaker and an alternate power breaker having mutually interlocked toggle switches for respectively activating/deactivating the main and alternate power. The panelboard enclosure further includes a power cutoff switch operable from outside a service entrance door of the enclosure to mechanically engage and deactivate the main power breaker toggle switch.

An electrical panelboard enclosure includes an enclosure housing with an interior equipment chamber accessible by way of a service entrance door. A service panel is adapted for connection to a main power source in order to receive main power therefrom. A power supply is operatively connected to receive main power from the service panel and deliver it to a load. The power supply is also adapted for connection to a backup power source in order to receive backup power therefrom and deliver it to the load in the event of a main power cutoff. A load disconnector is operatively connected between the power supply and the load. The load disconnector is manually operable to disconnect the load from the power supply to prevent the power supply from delivering either main or backup power to the load.

A high-security enclosure includes a base, a cover and a lock system. The lock system includes a base portion and a cover portion. The lock system base portion includes one or more fixed lock bars. The lock system cover portion includes one or more movable lock bars. Each movable lock bar is generally perpendicular to, and arranged to engage, one of the fixed lock bars. The lock system cover portion further includes a lock bar retraction assembly coupled to the one or more movable lock bars for retracting the movable lock bar(s) substantially simultaneously out of engagement with the fixed lock bar(s). A security drive mechanism is coupled to the lock bar retraction assembly to drive the lock system.

An electrical panelboard enclosure includes a primary service panel configured to receive power from a main power source and an alternate power source, an alternate power source connector array, and a distribution panel that delivers main or alternate power to subsidiary load circuits. The panelboard enclosure further includes an arrangement in which the primary service panel, the distribution panel, the alternate power source connector array and the service transfer switch are part of an installable panelboard assembly that is mountable as a unit within the panelboard enclosure.

A thermal energy storage transfer system that is adapted to transfer heat from an electronics enclosure. The thermal energy storage system includes a thermal energy storage unit that is positioned within the electronics enclosure. The thermal energy storage unit contains a phase change material that stores heat created by electronics stored within the electronics enclosure and transfers the heat to outside of the electronics enclosure by use of a heat pipe and condenser.

A filter system including a method for self cleaning the filter system of an electronic equipment enclosure where air flow is monitored either by monitoring fan performance of air flow velocity through the enclosure. The system includes two filters elements, an upstream ASHRAE or HEPA filter element to block particulate matter and a downstream PTFE filter element to block water vapor. The ASHRAE or HEPA filter element is relatively inexpensive and easy to clean. The PTFE filter element is more expensive and difficult to clean. Thus, the cheaper filter is used to protect the more expensive filter from contaminants and to increase its useful life. The method of self cleaning includes stopping the fan when a signal is received indicating a predetermined resistance to air flow which is a function of blockage of the filter elements, thereafter operating the fan at an increased rotational velocity to determine whether the fan itself is malfunctioning, thereafter slowing and stopping the fan to allow the fan to be reversed, rotating the fan in reverse for a predetermined period of time, such as five minutes, thereafter slowing and stopping the fan and returning the fan to its usual rotational velocity and direction. If the resistance to air flow is still above a predetermined level, the fan is again slowed, stopped and reversed and then returned to normal operation. The reversal operation can be conducted a multiple number of times, however, after a predetermined number, a signal is sent requesting maintenance.

A more efficient cooling system for densely packed electronic components for use in an out-of-doors equipment enclosure. An array of cooling assemblies are placed on heat generating components mounted to printed circuit boards mounted in enclosure racks. Each board has a manifold for intake and exhaust of refrigerant, and larger rack manifolds are substituted for rails and are attached to a backplane. A hybrid package including a ceramic hybrid power module and an attached array of cooling assemblies provide even more density of components and improved cooling.

An equipment cabinet mounted on a concrete pad. The cabinet includes an upper equipment chamber, a lower back-up battery chamber and a heat exchanger. Ambient air is drawn across batteries in the lower chamber before being drawn into the heat exchanger to help cool electronic components in the upper chamber. Air in the upper chamber is separate circulated through the heat exchanger. A cold plate is placed beneath the batteries and is connected to a refrigeration system. A heating pad is located below the cold plate and is separated from the concrete pad by insulation. The cold plate and the heating pad are used to maintain the batteries at about 25&deg; C. regardless of ambient temperatures so as to extend the useful lives of the batteries.

Apparatus for cooling a battery in an outdoor equipment cabinet

A microscale chip cooling system for a heat dissipating item, such as Intel's Pentium brand microprocessor. The system includes a 40 millimeter by 40 millimeter thermally insulated housing including a base and a cover. The system also includes a thermally conductive evaporator. The evaporator is adapted to be attached to a heat source such as the microprocessor. The cover includes inlet and outlet ports and the base includes a capillary passage. A refrigerant or heat transferring fluid is pumped or past through the passage before making a sudden expansion in an expansion zone just before passing to an evaporator chamber. Pool and flow boiling and forced convection may occur in the evaporator chamber as heat is transferred from the microprocessor through the thermally conductive evaporator to the refrigerant. The refrigerant then returns to a compressor to repeat the cycle. The system is extremely small and very efficient.

A top cover for an electronic equipment cabinets where the top cover is made of upper and lower synthetic resin panels which are welded at their edges to form an air chamber therebetween. The upper panel is domed while the lower panel has a corrugated like structure. Access ports are provided which may be sealed shut. Rain directing berms are also provided to direct rain to the corners of the cover and away from access doors to a sealed electronic equipment chamber in the cabinet. A lateral air and water exhaust duct extending the width of the cover is provided as a path for exhaust air from a heat exchanger which normally moves in one direction but under high wind conditions may move in the opposite direction and for allowing the passage of rain water from one side of the cabinet to the opposite side.

A method which extends the useful life of a lead-acid type battery by applying conductive cooling or heating directly to the bottom surface of the battery to maintain the battery at a constant temperature of about 25&deg; C. regardless of the ambient temperature surrounding the battery. The method for thermally managing the battery comprises the steps of providing an equipment cabinet having an equipment chamber, providing the cabinet with a battery compartment exposed to ambient temperature changes, providing the battery, placing the battery in the battery compartment, providing a cold plate having a surface substantially coextensive with the surface of the battery, placing the surface of the cold plate in direct contact with the surface of the battery, providing a heating pad, placing the heating pad in direct contact with the cold plate, providing an insulation pad, and placing the insulation pad between the heating pad and a mounting for the cabinet.

Method for thermal management of a battery in an outdoor equipment cabinet

A cooling and heating system using a vortex tube is disclosed. The system is attached to an equipment enclosure used for telecommunications, cable television and the like where a cold airstream from the vortex tube is directed to the sealed upper chamber of the enclosure, the upper chamber typically containing heat generating electronic components. The hot airstream generated by the vortex tube can be used to maintain an elevated temperature which prolongs the life of certain batteries and enhances their efficiency. Cold plates, heat exchangers, air jets and the like may be used in conjunction with the vortex tube to increase the cooling or heating of preselected components or items.

An ONU includes circuit cards, a card cage, and electrical connector hardware. The card cage releaseably engages and supports the circuit cards in installed positions in the card cage. At least one pair of the circuit cards have serial interconnections with each other. The electrical connector hardware defines all of those serial interconnections and is free of a backplane.

A simple, reliable, compact, low cost and low power cooling system is disclosed. The cooling system is especially suited for an electronic equipment enclosure which is located out-of-doors. The cooling system runs on community AC power which is converted to DC. If community power is disrupted, the cooling system takes power from back-up batteries. If a compressor of the cooling system drops to a temperature of 0&deg; C., a heating subsystem including a conduit loop that runs around the compressor and into the equipment chamber of the enclosure for transporting a heat transferring fluid, is activated for transferring heat from the equipment chamber to the compressor. A closed conduit loop is used to pump a mixture of ethylene glycol between the vicinity of the compressor and the interior of the equipment chamber. In this way, heat generated by the equipment to be cooled is transferred to the compressor to heat the enclosed refrigerant and the equipment is simultaneously cooled. The power required by the system is very low, because the system is compactly constructed and the arranged for maximum efficiency.
