The disclosure relates to a method for avoiding contamination of a printing plate given surface-covering coating of a dust-forming recording medium (e.g. an uncoated paper) with a coating substance (e.g. a primer) in an inkjet printing operation. The method can include feeding the recording medium at a feed velocity that is greater than 20 meters per minute; continuously printing of the coating substance onto the recording medium by at least one print head including a plurality of print nozzles, the coating substance being printed at a constant, predetermined applied quantity per area. A nip between the print head and the recording medium is provided such that a fluid-dynamic eddy is created between the recording medium and the print head and/or the printing plate. The disclosure also related to a printing system that is configured to implement the method.

In a method for preventing or reducing air vortex formation between a print plate and a recording medium upon printing to the recording medium with a coating substance (e.g. primer), the recording medium is provided at a feed velocity of at least 20 meters per minute, and a plurality of print nozzles of a print head are alternately activated to print the coating substance on recording medium to cover a surface of the recording medium with the coating substance. The activation can include only activating a portion of the plurality of print nozzles simultaneously. Further, a predetermined applied quantity of the coating substance per area is constantly printed onto the recording medium.

In a method or apparatus to optimize transfer of a developer fluid having toner embedded in a carrier fluid in an electrophoretic printing apparatus, charge images of print images are generated on an intermediate image carrier. The print images are inked into toner images by means of a developer station with the developer fluid. The toner images are transfer printed onto a printing substrate in a transfer printing zone by a transfer unit. The toner embedded in the carrier fluid is thus transported from the developer station to the intermediate image carrier in a first transport path segment and from the transfer unit to the printing substrate in a second transport path segment. A temperature acting on the carrier fluid in the first transport path segment is above a melting point of the carrier fluid, and a temperature acting on the carrier fluid in the second transport path segment is below the melting point of the carrier fluid.

In a method to optimize transfer of a developer fluid on a printing substrate in an electrophoretic printing apparatus, a developer fluid containing at least carrier fluid and toner particles is used, the toner particles having sizes that are greater than diameters of capillaries in a surface of the printing substrate. The additive particles are added to the developer fluid before the transfer, sizes of the additive particles being selected such that the sizes are smaller at least in part in comparison to the diameters of the capillaries in the surface of the printing substrate.

Method to optimize the transfer of developer fluid onto a printing substrate in an electrophoretic printing apparatus

An electrophoretic printing system is provided comprising a transfer printing station for transfer printing charge images developed with liquid toner comprising a carrier fluid and toner and wherein the developed charge images are transferred to a recording medium. A wetting unit provided adjacent to the recording medium before the transfer printing station as viewed in a movement direction of the recording medium wets the recording medium with a fluid.

Device for preparing a recording medium for transfer printing toner images in an electro-phoretic printing system

Printed images exhibiting a color medium are applied to the printing substrate by a printing device, the printing substrate having been provided beforehand with a viscous fluid film by an application unit arranged in front of the printing device. The color medium of the printed images migrates to a surface of the viscous fluid film and adheres there. After the drying of the fluid film the printed images are firmly fixed on the printing substrate.

In a method and printing apparatus to print a continuous printing substrate, a liquid film with toner and courier fluid is transported to a charge image carrier to develop charge images into toner images. Given a changing print speed of the printing apparatus at least one of the respective transport pairs is adjusted to provide a respective separation of the transport members from one another so that a substantially same quantity of the liquid film is always conveyed by the respective transport pair.

In a transfer unit, a rotating transfer element is arranged adjacent a charge image carrier that takes toner images from the charge image carrier and supplies the images to a transfer printing station. A scoop element applies carrier fluid to the transfer element. A friction element is provided after the scoop element adjacent to the transfer element at such a distance from the transfer element that a gap between the transfer element and the friction element is substantially completely filled with the carrier fluid, the friction element and the transfer element rotating with different speeds. Residual toner remaining on the transfer element after the transfer printing is loosened by friction forces.

Transfer unit in an electrophoretic printing or copying apparatus

Amphiphilic toner which has both hydrophilic groups and lipophilic groups in the molecule, use thereof for an electrophoretic printing process, and method for an electrophoretic printing process using it. The toner is first dispersed in a non-polar carrier liquid, the toner-containing carrier liquid being transported from a charge image carrier by means of a transfer roller to a point of transfer and from there transferred to a substrate. A polar liquid is added before transfer of the toner to the substrate.
