A device minimizes or eliminates surface flaws caused by metal dust on a metal strip to be coated in a continuous hot-dip coating process, where at least some segments of the metal strip to be coated are conveyed through the device in an axial direction. The device may comprise a blowing/sucking unit with blow-in openings for applying protective gas to the metal strip, which blow-in openings are positionable on first and second sides of the metal strip. The blowing/sucking unit may further include suction openings for extracting protective gas laden with metal vapor and/or metal dust, which suction openings are positionable on the first and second sides of the metal strip. The blowing/sucking unit may have a blow-in region in which the blow-in openings are arranged, and a suction region downstream of the blow-in region in which the suction openings are arranged.

A roller for deflecting or guiding a metal strip to be coated in a metal melt bath may include bearing journals disposed coaxially with one another for rotationally supporting the roller. To obtain a high coating quality while hot-dip coating the metal strip, in particular steel strip, and to increase the service life of such a roller, each bearing journal may comprise a plurality of axially spaced annular elevations that have or are formed from a plain-bearing coating. The roller may comprise a steel roller shell, and each bearing journal may include a substantially cylindrical or circular-disk-shaped connecting steel portion that extends radially in the direction of the roller shell. At least one of the connecting portions may comprise a passage opening at an end face of the roller shell. The passage may be closed by means of a gas-permeable plug element comprised of ceramic material.

Roller for deflecting or guiding a metal strip, which is to be coated, in a metal melt bath

A steel product may include a metallic anticorrosion coating of an aluminum alloy. So that such a steel product possesses high media resistance, more particularly high acid resistance and corrosion resistance, the steel product may be immersed in a liquid-melt coating bath that includes an aluminum alloy. In addition to Aluminum and unavoidable impurities, the aluminum alloy may include at least one of 0.2-2% by weight Mn or 0.2-7% by weight Mg, 0.5-5% by weight Fe, and at least one of 0.05-0.4% by weight Ti or 0.05-0.4% by weight Zr. A method for producing such steel products may involve providing a steel product in a hot-rolled or cold-rolled state, activating a surface of the steel product to remove passive oxides, and coating the surface-activated steel product by immersion in a liquid-melt coating bath that comprises an aluminum alloy having the aforementioned composition.

Steel product with an anticorrosive coating of aluminum alloy and method for the production thereof

A metallic flat product is disclosed which is subjected to surface finishing by hot-dip coating and which is preferably composed of steel. The metallic flat product includes a metallic alloy layer () and a metallic surface layer ('), which metallic alloy layer and metallic surface layer differ from one another in terms of their chemical composition. The two layers (&#x2032;) are produced in a one process step and define a continuous transition region () in which a mixture of the two different chemical compositions is present. The metallic alloy layer () has a thickness of less than 8 &#x3bc;m, preferably less than 6 &#x3bc;m, and the surface layer (&#x2032;) is formed from aluminum or zinc. The flat product has an improved coating, by means of which the flat product more effectively satisfies the requirements with regard to good deformability and has good anti-corrosion protection.

Metallic flat product which is subjected to surface finishing by hot-dip coating and which is preferably composed of steel

The invention relates to a method and to an apparatus for avoiding surface defects, which are caused by zinc dust, on galvanized metal strip in continuous strip galvanization, in which metal strip which is to be galvanized and is heated in a continuous annealing furnace is moved through a furnace pipe in protective furnace gas and is immersed into a zinc bath, wherein the furnace pipe is provided with injection openings via which the front side and the rear side of the metal strip can be acted upon with protective furnace gas, and wherein extraction openings for extracting protective furnace gas loaded with zinc vapor are arranged adjacent to the injection openings. The apparatus according to the invention is characterized in that a multiplicity of the injection openings are configured and arranged in the furnace pipe in such a manner that the protective furnace gas streaming out of said injection openings is directed onto that surface of the metal strip which faces the respective injection opening with an angle of impact within the range of 70&#xb0; to 110&#xb0;, wherein the distance between the respective injection opening and at least one extraction opening assigned thereto is selected in such a manner that, at a predetermined or predeterminable flow velocity of the protective furnace gas emerging from the respective injection opening, an entraining of protective furnace gas, which occurs during movement of the metal strip, in the direction of the zinc bath is opposed.

Method and device for avoiding surface defects caused by zinc dust in a continuous strip galvanising process

A method for the hot-dip coating of metal strip, in particular steel strip, in a metallic melting bath () is disclosed. In the method, the metal strip () to be coated is heated in a continuous furnace () and is introduced into the melting bath () through a snout () which is connected to the continuous furnace and which is immersed into the melting bath. To be able to satisfy the requirements placed on the coated strip () with regard to good deformability of the strip, as far as possible without cracking and peeling, and with regard to high anti-corrosion protection in a more effective and reliable manner, the disclosure proposes that, in the region delimited by the snout (), a melt is used which is intentionally implemented differently, in terms of its chemical composition, than the chemical composition of the melt used in the melting bath ().

Method for the hot-dip coating of metal strip, in particular steel strip

An apparatus and a method for the treatment of a flat steel product, taking place in throughput. The apparatus includes an indirectly heated annealing furnace chamber, a conveyor device for continuously conveying the flat steel product over a conveyor path leading from an entry to an exit of the annealing furnace chamber, and nozzle arrangements for feeding atmosphere gas, which is reactive in relation to the flat steel product, into the annealing furnace chamber. A controlled treatment of the flat steel product includes a first nozzle arrangement, from which a gas jet induces a first gas flow towards the entry of the annealing furnace chamber and sweeping over the surface of flat steel product to be treated. A second nozzle arrangement includes a gas jet which induces a second gas flow directed towards the exit of the annealing furnace chamber and sweeping over the surface of flat steel product.

Apparatus and method for the treatment of a flat steel product, taking place in throughput

An apparatus for hot dip coating metal strip is disclosed having a dip bath vessel (), a snout () which opens into the dip bath vessel for introducing a metal strip () which is heated in a continuous furnace into the dip bath, and a deflecting roller () which is arranged in the dip bath vessel for deflecting the metal strip () which enters into the dip bath in a direction which points out of the dip bath. The snout () is provided with a shaft-shaped snout extension piece () for increasing the snout dipping depth, the internal width of the snout extension piece () tapering toward its outlet opening () at least over a part length of said snout extension piece (). As a result, an increase or maximization of the eddy flow in the molten metal at or close to the metal strip () and therefore improved homogenization of the molten metal in the region of the strip is achieved, as a result of which slag-induced surface defects on the surface of the coated metal strip () can be avoided.

Method for producing a flat steel product provided with a metal protective layer by way of hot dip coating

A process for producing a component from a steel product coated with a protective Al&#x2014;Si coating, and an intermediate product that arises during the course of such a process and that can be used to produce components of the type concerned here. The steel product coated with the Al&#x2014;Si coating, undergoes a first heating stage in which the temperature and the duration of the heat treatment are set such that the Al&#x2014;Si coating is only partially pre-alloyed with Fe from the steel product. Then, the steel product, in a second heating stage, is heated to a heating temperature, above the Ac1 temperature, at which the steel product has an at least partially austenitic structure, wherein the temperature and the duration of the second heating stage are set such that the Al&#x2014;Si coating is fully alloyed with Fe from the steel product. After the steel product is heated to the heating temperature, it is shaped to form the component and the component obtained is cooled in a controlled manner, in order to obtain a martensitic structure.
