An intracorporeal space filling device and a delivery system and method for using the device is disclosed. The space filling device is preferably configured for percutaneous delivery from a peripheral conduit of a patient. The space filling device has an elongated tubular or interconnected bead structure which may have a transmutable material disposed within it. The transmutable material can be altered from a non-rigid state to a rigid state by the application of various types of energy or by other suitable means. The space filling device can be positioned by a delivery system and detached from the delivery system after desired positioning is achieved.

Intracorporeal occlusive device and method

Various technologies described herein pertain to a sensored grate that can be utilized for various security fencing applications. The sensored grate includes a grate framework and an embedded optical fiber. The grate framework is formed of a molded polymer such as, for instance, molded fiber reinforced polymer. Further, the grate framework includes a set of elongated elements, where the elongated elements are spaced to define apertures through the grate framework. The optical fiber is embedded in the elongated elements of the grate framework. Moreover, bending or breaking of one or more of the elongated elements can be detected based on a change in a characteristic of input light provided to the optical fiber compared to output light received from the optical fiber.

An exercise machine which allows a user to perform a variety of exercises using dynamic resistance. The exercise machine includes a platform base, a housing tower, an upper-left exercise module, an upper-right exercise module, and a control console. The upper-left exercise module and the upper-right exercise module each comprise a primary torque motor, a primary cable, a pulley system, a structural arm, and a primary handle. The housing tower is connected onto the platform base. The upper-left exercise module and the upper-right exercise module are integrated into the housing tower and provide a means for applying a resistance force onto the extremities of the user. The primary cable tensionably engages the pulley system and connects the primary handle to the primary torque motor. The primary handle rests within and against the structural arm, attached to the housing tower. The control console allows for external device compatibility.

A foam generator includes a body and a removable insert positioned within the body. The insert is held to the body by a cap releasably engaging a mating surface of the body. The body includes a plurality of inlets for foam constituents adjacent the mating surfaces of the body and an outlet for the foam opposite end. To change the insert, the can is disengaged from the mating surface without the need for tools and without disturbing the inlets. A new insert can be placed within the body and a cap of the new insert engaged with the mating surface without the need for tools.

A prosthesis is provided for treating aneurysms, occlusive disease of vessels and body organs, and arterio-venous fistulas, occurring in single and bifurcated lumens. The prosthesis comprises an expandable coiled sheet portion having a biocompatible graft, either a sheet or tube, affixed thereto along part or all of the circumference of the coiled sheet portion. The prosthesis has a small delivery profile, making it suitable for use in a variety of body vessels. Methods of making and deploying the prosthesis in single and bifurcated lumens are also provided.

An apparatus for selectively moving a toilet seat between a first and second position comprising: a base, a first pedal having a first end for receiving a downward force thereon pivotally connected to the base, a first means connected between the toilet seat and an end of the first pedal opposite the first end for moving the toilet seat from a first position to a second position, a second pedal having a first end for receiving a downward force thereon and pivotally connected at an edge opposite the first end to the first pedal, a second means connected between the second pedal and an upper end of the first moving means for moving at least one of the toilet seat from the second position to the first position and the second pedal away from the first pedal. Upon applying the downward force to the first end of the first pedal, the first pedal pivots and causes the first moving means to move the toilet seat from the first position to the second position and causes the second moving means to move the second pedal away from the first pedal. Upon applying the downward force on the first end of the second pedal, the second moving means causes the toilet seat to be moved from the second position to the first position.

A deflectable tip catheter that is used in combination with a guidewire for delivery of an ablation element to target areas of a patient's vasculature. The deflectable tip catheter has a handle portion, an elongated shaft and a deflectable tip portion. A guidewire lumen extends through the elongated shaft and deflectable tip portion. A guidewire passes through the guidewire lumen and exits from a port in the distal end of the deflectable tip portion. The deflectable tip of the catheter is deflected by manipulation of the handle portion to direct the advancement of the guidewire as the guidewire is advanced out of the distal port. By using the deflectable tip portion to direct the advancement of the guidewire, the physician's ability to navigate sharp angles is greatly improved. The deflectable tip catheter is particularly suitable for delivering an ablation element to a pulmonary vein or pulmonary vein branch for performing circumferential ultrasound vein ablation to treat atrial fibrillation.

This invention is a circumferential ablation device assembly which is adapted to forming a circumferential conduction block in a pulmonary vein. The assembly includes a circumferential ablation element which is adapted to ablate a circumferential region of tissue along a pulmonary vein wall which circumscribes the pulmonary vein lumen, thereby transecting the electrical conductivity of the pulmonary vein against conduction along its longitudinal axis and into the left atrium. The circumferential ablation element includes an expandable member with a working length that is adjustable from a radially collapsed position to a radially expanded position. An equatorial band circumscribes the outer surface of the working length and is adapted to ablate tissue adjacent thereto when actuated by an ablation actuator. The equatorial band has a length relative to the longitudinal axis of the expandable member that is narrow relative to the working length, and is also substantially shorter than its circumference when the working length is in the radially expanded position. A pattern of insulators may be included over an ablation element which otherwise spans the working length in order to form the equatorial band described. The expandable member is also adapted to conform to the pulmonary vein in the region of its ostium, such as by providing a great deal of radial compliance or by providing a taper along the working length which has a distally reducing outer diameter. A linear ablation element is provided adjacent to the circumferential ablation element in a combination assembly which is adapted for use in a less-invasive 'maze'-type procedure in the region of the pulmonary vein ostia in the left ventricle.

Circumferential ablation device assembly

This invention is a circumferential ablation device assembly which is adapted to form a circumferential conduction block in a pulmonary vein. The assembly generally comprises a handheld surgical ablation probe having a rigid shaft for insertion through a patient's chest and a circumferential ablation element mounted on the distal end portion of the shaft. The circumferential ablation element is adapted to ablate a circumferential region of tissue along a pulmonary vein wall which circumscribes the pulmonary vein lumen. The circumferential ablation element includes an expandable member for anchoring the distal end portion of the shaft in a body structure and an ultrasound transducer disposed within the expandable member for emitting ultrasonic energy to ablate the tissue in the pulmonary vein.

A stent including a helical mesh coil is provided having a substantially rectangular cross-section and a band width equal to at least one-quarter to one-third of the maximum expanded circumference of the stent. The helical mesh has a multiplicity of openings forming a lattice that preferably provides about 60% open space or more. Alternative embodiments of the stent include free ends that preferentially overlap neighboring turns of the coil, and integrally formed barbs that enhance resistance to localized compressive forces. Methods of deploying the helical mesh coil stent also provided.
