Based on a request to identify a networking component, a first application programming interface (API) signature is selected from a plurality of API signatures within a priority list that associates the first API signature with a corresponding first API type, wherein the first API signature includes a first characteristic. A first API implemented by the networking component is tested to determining whether the first API implemented by the networking component exhibits the first characteristic. A determination is made of whether the networking component implements the first API type based on determining that the first API implemented by the networking component exhibits the first characteristic.

Identification of networking component application programming interfaces

Methods, systems, and computer-readable storage mediums for policy-based testing of computer networks may involve identifying a set of network nodes within a network, and iteratively filtering the set of network nodes in accordance with a testing policy comprising at least one policy rule. Iteratively filtering may include, in an initial iteration, filtering out network nodes that are endpoints of the network from the set of network nodes. Iteratively filtering may further include, for each subsequent iteration, determining a filter criteria from one or more of the policy rules, and filtering out network nodes from the set of network nodes produced by the immediately previous iteration based on the filter criteria. The policy-based testing further comprises invoking a network test scheme that is compliant with the testing policy and is limited to execution against the set of network nodes produced by the iterative filtering.

Coverage policy-based testing in computer networks

A first message that conforms to a first software-defined networking protocol is received from a first source component. A first destination component associated with the first message is identified. A second software-defined networking protocol is determined based, at least in part, on the first destination component. The second software-defined networking protocol is one of a plurality of software-defined networking protocols. A second message that conforms to the second software-defined networking protocol is generated based, at least in part, on the first message. The second message is sent to the first destination component.

An electronic device includes a processor and a memory coupled to the processor and storing computer readable program code that when executed by the processor causes the processor to perform operations including generating, at given time intervals, a plurality of topology graphs that correspond to a service chain that comprises a plurality of virtual network functions (VNFs) and that is operating in a software defined network (SDN)/network function virtualization (NFV) computing environment, each of the plurality of topology graphs corresponding to a different one of the time intervals. Operations may include comparing a first one of the plurality of topology graphs that is received at a first time to a second one of the plurality of topology graphs that is received at a second time that is after the first time to determine if the service chain has a fault.

Fault detection of service chains in a SDN/NFV network environment

Notifications associated with software-defined network components are registered for. A notification is received in accordance with the registration. It is determined that the notification indicates a configuration change to a network associated with the software-defined network components. In response to a determination that the notification indicates the configuration change, a network topology associated with the network is determined. It is determined that one or more network functionalities are impacted by the configuration change based, at least in part, on the network topology. In response to a determination that the one or more network functionalities are impacted by the configuration change, the one or more network functionalities are updated based, at least in part, on the network topology.

Efficient management of network configuration-dependent network functionality

A request to identify a networking component of a network is received. An application programming interface signature is selected. The application programming interface signature comprises a characteristic. It is determined whether an application programming interface implemented by the networking component exhibits the characteristic. In response to a determination that the application programming interface implemented by the networking component exhibits the characteristic, it is indicated that the networking component implements the application programming interface.

According to one aspect of the present disclosure, a computer-implemented method is disclosed, in which a determination is made for each of a plurality of network interfaces of whether an amount of traffic on the network interface exceeds a predefined traffic threshold. Each of the network interfaces whose amount of traffic is below the traffic threshold is excluded from Quality of Service (QoS) polling. For each of the non-excluded network interfaces whose traffic exceeds the traffic threshold, a determination is made of a set of traffic classes transported on the network interface, and any of the traffic classes with a priority level below a cutoff threshold are excluded from QoS polling. For each non-excluded traffic class that has a priority level above the cutoff threshold, a determination is made of a per-class QoS polling rate based on the respective priority level of the traffic class.

Systems and methods for intelligent service assurance testing provided herein include receiving network infrastructure information relating to a network, receiving one or more service assurance testing parameters, determining a test schedule of one or more service assurance tests for service assurance testing of the network, the test schedule being based at least in part on the network infrastructure information and the one or more service assurance testing parameters, and deploying the one or more service assurance tests on one or more devices of the network according to the test schedule.

System and method for intelligent service assurance in network management

In one embodiment of a method and apparatus for protecting data, voice, and video networks from individuals with malicious intent, a real network or network device has a vicarious simulated counterpart that may take the place of the real device or network upon appropriate triggering. The simulated counterpart behaves like the real device, but records the suspect transactions. The integrity of the real network or device is therefore continuously maintained because the suspect is isolated from the real network and the suspect transactions are not passed on to the actual device or network. The recorded transactions may then be analyzed for purposes of exposing the perpetrator, discovering perpetrator behavior patterns, and identifying device or network security weaknesses.

Method and apparatus for security management via vicarious network devices

A system and method are provided for simulating computer networks. Network device simulator provides individual simulations of individual network devices, which operate independently of one another. Network simulator contains the simulated network topology and provides connection information to the network device simulators. The network simulator also allows an operator to alter the simulator topology and inject simulator conditions. A Network Management Station (NMS) manages the simulated network as if it were a real network.
