Apparatuses and methods for generating trace vapors are provided. The apparatus includes a controller and an oven. The controller includes: a processor, a memory storing at least one control program, a clean solution supply port constructed to output a clean solution, an analyte solution supply port constructed to output an analyte solution, a carrier gas inlet port constructed to receive a carrier gas, and a plurality of carrier gas supply controllers constructed to output the carrier gas. The oven includes a clean manifold, an analyte manifold, a clean solution nebulizer constructed to: receive the clean solution from the clean solution supply port, and the carrier gas from one of the plurality of carrier gas supply controllers, and output a clean solution vapor stream comprising the clean solution and the carrier gas to the clean manifold, an analyte solution nebulizer constructed to: receive the analyte solution from the analyte solution supply port and the carrier gas from another one of the plurality of carrier gas supply controllers, and output an analyte solution vapor stream comprising the analyte solution and the carrier gas to the analyte manifold, a pneumatic valve controllably connected to the processor and communicatively connected to the clean manifold and the analyte manifold, and an output supply port communicatively connected to the pneumatic valve. The controller is configured to operate the pneumatic valve to allow the clean vapor solution or the analyte vapor solution to enter the chamber and be provided to the output supply port.

Methods and apparatuses for generating trace vapors

Concentric permeation system for transfer of neutral gaseous material

An apparatus for training canines to detect complex hazardous substances from an odor mixture developed from at least two separated material components having at least two separated odors respectively. The training apparatus has a chamber base unit having at least two vial wells configured to hold separate containers of the material components and a chamber top unit having a first side facing the chamber base and a second side opposite the first side. The first side of the chamber top unit and the chamber base unit define a primary vapor mixing chamber in fluid communication with the vial wells. A mechanical seal between the chamber top and the chamber base seals the primary vapor mixing chamber. A passageway extends through the chamber top unit connecting the primary vapor mixing chamber to the second side of the chamber top unit.

Mixed odor delivery device (MODD)

Disclosed is an apparatus having: a pressure chamber and a gas-producing microorganism within the chamber. The pressure chamber is capable of maintaining a gas pressure of at least 0.5 psi above atmospheric pressure.

Bacteria-based gas generator

A method and system for generating vapors of liquid solutions where a pneumatically modulated liquid delivery system maintains a defined flow rate for a liquid solution. The pneumatically modulated liquid delivery system includes a flow meter configured to measure a flow rate for the liquid solution flowing from a pressure vessel; a microcontroller configured to determine a pressure necessary to achieve the defined flow rate; and an electronic pressure control unit configured to adjust the pressure inside the pressure vessel. The system includes a nebulizer coupled to the pneumatically modulated liquid delivery system configured to receive the liquid solution from the pneumatically modulated liquid delivery system at the defined flow rate and configured to generate an aerosol of the liquid solution. A heat tube can vaporize the aerosol generated by the nebulizer.

Method and system for generating vapors of liquid solutions

Provided is a method and apparatus for attaching a fluid cell to a planar substrate. The planar substrate may have on it sensors or devices for detecting components within the fluid, and/or be treated to selectively bind or react with components within the fluid. Substrates might include solid-state IC integrated circuit sensor microchips, glass slides, genomic and proteomic arrays, and or other suitable substrates that can make conformal contact with the fluid cell. The fluid cell can be mounted directly on top of the substrate to easily create a fluidic system in a wide variety of implementations. The assembly does not require modification of the substrate; all the fluidic connections are inherent in the apparatus. The present device can be made using low-cost materials and simple methods.
