Electrical connector for leaded electronic component

An electrical interconnection device comprises a first connector member having a first mating end and a second connector member having a second mating end. The first connector member may be a printed circuit card I/O connector, and the second connector member may be a telecommunications adapter connector such as a modular jack. The first and second connector members are pivotally linked to permit relative angular movement therebetween.

An electrical connector includes a dielectric housing which holds a plurality of terminals and a conductive shell which is mounted on the housing. The housing has a wall and a pocket is formed in the wall. The shell has a locking tab which is interference fitted in the pocket, thereby anchoring the shell to the housing. The shell also has a floating tab which is freely received in the pocket and is resiliently engaged with the locking tab.

A stacked electrical connector 2 including right angle RJ-45 modular jacks 4 positioned in columns also includes LED's 38 positioned on the front mating face 18 of the connector 2. Internal passages 28 extend from the mating face 18 of the jack housing 18 and intersect channels 34 extending to the bottom pcb mounting face 22 where the connector 2 and jacks 4 are soldered to a printed circuit board. LED leads 42 are located in the passages 28 and contacts 44 are located in channels 34. Insulation displacement slots 48 at the top of the contacts 44 terminate the leads 42. The termination points are staggered and the leads 42 in a column are of different lengths so that contacts 44 of different lengths can engage corresponding leads 42. LED's 38 can thus be positioned beside mating openings 20 on the front of the connector 2 to provide status indications.

A shield for an electrical connector for being mounted in a panel cutout (62), wherein spring fingers (46,102,202,302) of the shield are engaged with surfaces defining the panel cutout (62) and are deflected thereby toward sides of the connector. Free ends (48,104,204,304) of the spring fingers are so formed that upon spring arm deflection the free ends enter into electrical engagement with other portions (54,108,210,310) of the shield to enhance the shielding effectiveness.

A battery (8) powered electrical device (10) is disclosed having an outer case and a battery holder (12) that is received within an opening in the outer case. The device (10) includes an electrical component (24) that is electrically interconnected to the battery (8). A latching mechanism is provided for latching the holder (12) within the case. A pair of resilient arms (102, 104) having projections (106) are cantilevered from the case on opposite sides of the opening and extend into the opening. When the holder (12) is inserted into the opening the projections (106) engage depressions (74, 76) in the sides of the holder (12) to effect the latching while minimizing the outer peripheral size of the holder (12).

Battery operated component with removable battery holder

This invention is directed to an improved PCMCIA frame kit for receiving a planar electronic device, such as a printed circuit board or memory card, for electrical engagement with a complementary device in electronic equipment, such as a computer. The kit comprises a pair of matable, cover members to provide shielding to the planar electronic device, and that each cover member is integrally molded to a dielectric frame upon which the planar electronic device is seated. The improvement hereof lies in the provision of each frame including a dielectric extension intermatable with one another to define a cavity for receiving a portion of the planar electronic device. By this arrangement the planar electronic device may be provided with an antenna for the transmission of signals through the dielectric extension. Optionally, the cover members and extensions may be essentially identical in construction having appropriate means about the periphery thereof, for intermatability. Further, an elastomeric sealing gasket may be provided between the shielding cover members and the respective extensions.

High density PCMCIA frame kit

This invention is directed to an electrical cable connector of the type for mating with and latchably engaging a complementary connector. The connector typically includes a dielectric housing containing an array of electrical contacts for electrical engagement with respective contacts in a complementary connector. The connector further comprises a pair of unitary metal shielding members stamped and formed from a metal sheet blank, where a first of the shielding members includes a pair of reversely bent latching arms extending from a mating end toward a cable receiving end, and a pair of hermaphroditic cover members formed of a dielectric material adapted to interfit together about the electrical connector in sliding engagement therewith, and movable from a first position to a second position to effect unmating of said electrical connector from the header assembly. Each cover member includes a latching arm receiving recess, and a flexible arm engageable with a complementary recess in the opposing cover member. Manual movement of the assembled cover members to the second position causes the respective flexible arms to flex from their resiled position. Releasing the assembled cover members effects a return of the assembled cover members to the first position.
