A system and method for streaming media and, more particularly, to a system and method for active transcoding of content in a distributed system. The method includes receiving a file having predetermined parameters and sizing the file up to an optimal packet size according to a logarithmic scheme. The optimal packet size is a largest packet size. In further aspects, the method also includes providing a computer infrastructure operable to perform the steps herein. The system includes a media service, rules engine, log based job creator and a stream constructor. A computer infrastructure having computer readable medium to perform the processes described herein is also provided.

System and method for active transcoding of content in a distributed system

A system and method for managing licensed and non-licensed resources in a grid network is provided. A license server receives and processes requests for a license and determines whether a license is available and, if necessary, causes a new configuration to be created on a server for satisfying the request. A new grid node may also be created and configured to be added to the grid for creating additional capacity for grid processing. The configuration may be performed at a time prior to an actual need by the grid, perhaps due to a faulted node, and quickly brought on-line with a simple configuration update. The new grid node may also have a virtual IP address reassigned to quickly redirect processing from the faulted node to the newly configured node. Also, an external resource dispatcher may add new resources such as storage or processing capacity to the grid and may coordinate the new resources with the license server.

The method comprises providing a wireless capable device which is configured to receive RFID information and store the RFID information in storage for later retrieval. A system and method of authenticating fingerprints. A method of authenticating a fingerprint includes comparing a geometric shape of a scanned fingerprint to a corresponding geometric shape of a stored fingerprint. The geometric shape and the corresponding geometric shape are defined by vertices. The vertices are defined by minutiae points, while the vertices are spaced apart from the minutiae points.

The method further includes determining which cause and effect relations are associated with the current utilization and calculating a weighted balancing factor for the cause and effect relations having membership with the utilization. A load is balanced using the weighted balancing factor.

System and method of load balancing using fuzzy logic

A method, system and program product for audio tonal monitoring of an alarm generated by a device in a network. The method includes mapping a severity level for an alert to be generated for a device in a network to at least one audio tone having a plurality of audible characteristics, generating an alert for the device when an error associated with the device is learned and sending to a monitoring system the alert generated, the alert containing data or information. The method further includes decrypting the alert received and formatting the alert received to add additional information and forwarding the formatted alert to an alert-to-audio cue manager. Further, the method includes mapping the alert forwarded to the audio tone having the plurality of audible characteristics, and playing the audio tone, such that the audio tone played audibly alerts a client of the alert generated by the device.

Method, system and program product for tonal audio-based monitoring of network alarms

A method, computer program product, and a data processing system for providing pervasive computing with a removable non-volatile memory device is provided. A portable operating system receives a command for removal of a portable memory device from a first host. A running application that is stored on the portable memory device is identified. Application state data of the application is saved in a data structure stored on the portable memory device. The portable memory device may then be removed from the first host and connected with a second host. A determination is made of whether the second host is adapted to run the application. The saved state data is retrieved responsive to determining that the second host is adapted to run the application, and the application is restored to an application state at which the state data was saved.

System and method for pervasive computing with a portable non-volatile memory device

Minutiae based fingerprint transactions are validated and authenticated over wireless based communications systems, such as over a Bluetooth wireless based communication system. Minutiae points are unique identification points on a fingerprint where a ridge in the fingerprint joins another ridge or a ridge ends. The combination of any three minutiae points forms a triangle, and the method/algorithm of the present invention uses triangles of minutiae points because triangles are proportional regardless of possible differences in scale of two fingerprints being compared. A first method/algorithm uses a minutiae exchange where triplets of minutiae points are exchanged and form triangles for comparison between an original template of minutiae points and a stored template of minutiae points. A second method/algorithm exchanges three linear equations for three pairs of minutiae points that form triangles for comparison between an original template and a stored template.

A method for locating and contacting an owner of a lost wireless device. A first person having a first wireless device finds a lost wireless device belonging to a second person. The first wireless device and the lost wireless device each comprise a same discoverable wireless protocol. The first person enters a lost key code on the lost wireless device. The lost wireless device establishes, a connection between the lost wireless device and the first wireless device. The first person accesses data stored on the first wireless device. The first person selects specified data from the data stored on the first wireless device. The first person downloads to the lost wireless device, the specified data from the first wireless device and sends the specified data to a communication device so that the second person may retrieve the specified data through the communication device.
