Systems and methods are described herein for connecting client devices to applications on a server using web sockets. In one aspect, the systems and methods described provide for a routing table that may be used to direct communications between a client device and an application on a web server. The routing table may overcome challenges of implementing web sockets under current constraints of the web socket specification, the HTTP specification, and server implementations.

A method of monitoring a status condition of a first server with a second server in a server network, and also providing synchronization and messaging between the two servers, the method including: transmitting a software-generated pulse waveform from the first server to a device coupled to the first server, wherein the software-generated pulse waveform is comprises a first command corresponding to a logic level low and a second command corresponding to a logic level high; setting said device to a first state during logic level lows of said pulse waveform and to a second state during logic level highs of said pulse waveform; receiving the software-generated pulse waveform with the second server by determining when said device is in the first state and when it is in the second state; and determining when said device no longer changes from the first state to the second state. In order to provide synchronization and messaging, said pulse waveform is frequency modulated in order to communicate specified commands and/or reference points between the two servers.

A system for fault tolerant execution of an application program in a server network, which includes: a first server for executing the application program; a cluster network database, coupled to the first server; an object, stored in the cluster network database, which represents the program and contains information pertaining to the program; a failure detection module which detects a failure of the first server; a second server, coupled to the cluster network database; and a failover module which loads the application program in the second server upon detection of the failure of the first server. Method for communicating a software-generated pulse waveform between two servers in a network

The method of the current invention provides a fault tolerant access to a network resource. A replicated network directory database operates in conjunction with server resident processes to remap a network resource in the event of a server failure. The records/objects in the replicated database contain for each network resource, a primary and a secondary server affiliation. Initially, all users access a network resource through the server identified in the replicated database as being the primary server for the network resource. When server resident processes detect a failure of the primary server, the replicated database is updated to reflect the failure of the primary server, and to change the affiliation of the network resource from its primary to its backup server. This remapping occurs transparently to whichever user/client is accessing the network resource. As a result of the remapping, all users access the network resource through the server identified in the replicated database as the backup server for the resource. When the server resident processes detect a return to service of the primary server, the replicated database is again updated to reflect the resumed operation of the primary server. This remapping of network resource affiliations also occurs transparently to whichever user/client is accessing the network resource, and returns the resource to its original fault tolerant state.

A method for updating a wallpaper for computer display, which operates on a server attached to a computer network. This method includes receiving a request from a client to fetch a wallpaper, and selecting the wallpaper from a collection of wallpaper based upon a personal profile of a user. It also includes retrieving the selected wallpaper, and sending the wallpaper across a network to the user on the client. In one embodiment of the present invention, the wallpaper is selected based upon a personal interest of the user. In a variation on the above embodiment, the client automatically requests new wallpaper at periodic time intervals, and also upon system initialization. Another embodiment of the present invention includes allowing the user to request an alternate wallpaper if the user does not care for the new wallpaper. Another embodiment includes registering a user for access to a collection of wallpapers for which there is restricted access. Another embodiment includes receiving a wallpaper from a user for insertion into a collection of wallpaper. Yet another embodiment includes receiving a complaint regarding the activities of a user, and in response to the complaint removing the registration of the user.
