A vehicle radar system including at least one transceiver arrangement () that is arranged to generate and transmit a least one FMCW chirp signal (). Each chirp signal () includes a corresponding plurality of frequency ramps (r, r). The vehicle radar system () is arranged to receive reflected signals () and to mix the received signals () with the respective transmitted chirp signal () to obtain at least one IF signal (). The vehicle radar system () is further arranged to produce a periodically updated dwell list (), and to collect and process data in dependence of the present dwell list (). The present dwell list includes information where the probability of presence of objects exceeds a certain threshold.

A method of mitigates RF interference from an RF interferer. An RF signal is received at an RF transceiver during a time period. The RF signal that includes, for at least a portion of the time period, an interference signal having a cyclic transmission pattern with at least one deterministic feature. The received RF signal is analyzed in order to determine timing information for the at least one deterministic feature and the associated interference signal cyclic transmission pattern. Transmission of the RF signals from the RF transceiver are synchronized with the interference signal transmission pattern based on the determined timing information to mitigate interference between the RF signals and the interference signal.

Apparatus and method for RF interference avoidance in an automotive detection system

An interference detection methods and receivers for receiving an RF signal including a desired RF signal and an intermittent interference signal, estimating thermal noise of the receiver by statistically analyzing a plurality of time intervals of data of the received RF signal, including at least one data interval not including the interferer, estimating an intermittent-interference-plus-noise level by statistically analyzing an extended time interval of the data, determining an interference metric based on a ratio of the estimates, and evaluating the interference metric against one or more thresholds to detect the presence or absence of degrading RF interference. The statistical analysis may include application of order statistic filtering.

System and method for interference detection in a RF receiver

A radar signal transmitter transmits first and second radar signals at different first and second frequencies. A radar receiver receives reflected radar signals and generates receive signals indicative of the reflected radar signals. A first receive signal is indicative of a first reflected radar signal generated by reflection of the first transmitted radar signal, and a second receive signal is indicative of a second reflected radar signal generated by reflection of the second transmitted radar signal. A processor receives the first and second receive signals and computes a difference between the first and second receive signals to generate a difference signal. The processor processes the difference signal to provide radar information for the region, the processor adjusting at least one of amplitude and phase of at least one of the first and second receive signals such that the difference is optimized at a preselected range from the receiver.

Apparatus and method for attenuating close-range radar signals with balancing for dual-frequency difference in radar signals in an automotive radar sensor

The systems and methods of the present disclosure utilize an advantageous data transmission protocol, which facilitates determining and compensating for transmission delay between nodes in a communications network in order to correlate timing information across multiple nodes. According to the systems and methods presented herein, data may be transmitted from a first node to a second node, wherein the transmitted data includes each of (i) timing information (as measured by a first timing mechanism associated with the first node) characterizing a first set of data and (ii) a transmission time (as also measured by the first timing mechanism). A receiving time (as measured by a second timing mechanism associated with the second node) for the first set of data, may also be determined. Based on these parameters timing information characterizing the first set of data in the context of the second timing mechanism may then be determined.

The invention is a method and apparatus for determining the shape and location of objects by trilateration based on the output of a plurality of range sensors. The range measurements from a plurality of sensors are correlated with each other to identify one or more potential objects. With respect to each potential object, it is assumed that the object can be one of a finite number of possible predefined shapes. For each potential object, a metric is calculated for each of the predefined shapes using the set of range measurements upon which the potential object is based defining the likelihood that the set of readings correspond to an actual object of that predefined shape. Each potential object is then assumed to have the predefined shape that yielded the lowest metric (i.e., that yielded the metric that indicates the highest likelihood that the object has the corresponding shape). The list of potential objects is then ordered according by their calculated metrics from lowest to highest. The ordered list is then pared down to a smaller list of actual objects by selecting the potential object highest on the ordered list and assuming that it is an actual object and then removing from the list all other lower-ordered potential objects that are based on any of the individual measurements upon which the selected object is based and repeating this process until all potential objects on the list have either been selected as an actual object or removed from the list.

Method and apparatus for identifying complex objects based on range readings from multiple sensors

The invention is a method and apparatus for determining the locations of a plurality of actual objects based on the output of a plurality of range sensors. A multiplicity of range measurements are obtained from a plurality of sensors, each sensor capable of providing a multiplicity of range measurements. The range measurements from the plurality of sensors are correlated with each other to generate a list of potential objects and to order that list of potential objects from highest to lowest likelihood of being an actual object. The order may be based upon a cumulative error of the individual sensor measurements upon which the potential object is based. The ordered list of potential objects is then pared down to a smaller list of actual objects by assuming that the potential object highest in the ordered list as an actual object, and then removing from the list all other lower-ordered potential objects that are based on any of the range measurements upon which the selected object is based. The process is repeated for the next highest potential object remaining on the list until all potential objects on the list have either been selected as an actual object or removed from the list.
