A device for extracting lens material from an eye including a distal, disposable portion releaseably coupleable to a proximal, reusable portion. The disposable portion includes a cutting tube having a distal cutting tip and an inner lumen having a distal end. The disposable portion includes an aspiration pump fluidly coupled to the inner lumen of the cutting tube and a cutting tube drive mechanism configured to oscillate the cutting tube. The reusable portion includes an aspiration pump motor configured to drive the aspiration pump and a coupler for releaseably operatively coupling the pump motor to the aspiration pump. Related devices, systems, and methods are disclosed.

An apparatus can include a coupler for coupling a robotic arm to a surgical table having a table top on which a patient can be disposed. The coupler can include a first portion configured to couple to a surgical table and a second portion configured to couple to a robotic arm. The second portion may include a post that may translate into the first portion. The first portion may comprise a locking mechanism having one or more stages to constrain movement of the second portion relative to the first portion in six degrees of freedom. The coupler can thus provide secure coupling of the robotic arm to the surgical table.

Apparatuses and methods described herein relate to arm carts for transporting and securing a robotic arm to a surgical table. In some embodiments, an arm cart may include an arm support having two joints that can be manipulated to move an arm into a position in which a coupler of the arm is engageable with a coupling site of a surgical table. In some embodiments, an arm cart may include an arm support that is rotatable and translatable to permit movement of an attachment area for receiving and attaching a coupling site of a surgical table to a coupler attached to an arm. In some embodiments, an arm cart may include an arm support that releasably couples to a middle segment of the arm positioned at least two segments away from an end of the arm having a coupler for coupling to a coupling site of a surgical table.

A medical device for removing lens tissue from inside a capsular bag of an eye including a cam assembly operatively coupled to a vacuum generation source positioned within the housing. A first portion is operatively coupled to the vacuum generation source and a second portion is operatively coupled to the first portion and to the shaft. The first portion is capable of rotating about an axis to cause the vacuum generation source to generate vacuum through the lumen. The second portion is capable of rotating about the axis with the first portion to cause the shaft to oscillate. A first degree of actuation of a trigger causes the vacuum generation source to generate vacuum within the lumen of the shaft, and a second degree of actuation of the trigger causes the shaft to oscillate as the second portion rotates. Multi-stage trigger for ophthalmology cutting tool

A device for performing an ophthalmic procedure in an eye including a hand-held portion; an elongate member extending from a distal end region of the hand-held portion; and an aspiration pump within the hand-held portion. The elongate member includes a lumen and an opening near a distal end region of the elongate member. The aspiration pump is in fluid communication with the opening of the elongate member. The aspiration pump includes a camshaft extending along a longitudinal axis and having a plurality of lobed cams; tubing extending parallel to the longitudinal axis; and a plurality of cam followers driven by the cams of the camshaft to move in a plane perpendicular to the longitudinal axis to sequentially compress the tubing. A hand-held aspiration device is provided which has a relatively small suction volume along a suction path to improve responsiveness of the aspiration device when the device is activated. The device may be manually powered and may be provided without electronic controls. The device has a suction path which may be purged into a disposal enclosure to reduce the volume of material under the influence of the suction pressure during the procedure. The suction source may also be part of the hand-held unit to further reduce the suction path and suction volume.

A system for extracting lens material from an eye including an instrument having a first aspiration pump driven by a drive mechanism having a motor, and an elongate member sized and configured to extend through an anterior chamber to a capsular bag of the eye. The elongate member configured to be oscillated by the drive mechanism includes an inner lumen fluidly coupled to the first aspiration pump and defining at least a portion of an aspiration waste line, and an open distal end having a distal cutting tip. The system can further include a fluid system remote from the surgical instrument including a second aspiration pump and a fluid line configured to deliver background aspiration from the second aspiration pump to the inner lumen of the elongate member to aspirate the lens material from the eye towards the inner lumen. Ophthalmic microsurgical tools, systems, and methods of use

Devices, systems, and methods for performing an ophthalmic procedure in an eye are disclosed. The devices include a hand-held portion and a distal, elongate member coupled to the hand-held portion having a lumen operatively coupled to a vacuum source. A drive mechanism operatively coupled to the elongate member is configured to oscillate the elongate member. When in use, the device is configured to aspirate ocular material from the eye through the lumen. The drive mechanism retracts the elongate member with a retraction speed profile and advances the elongate member with an extension speed profile. The retraction speed profile is different from the extension speed profile.

Devices and methods for cutting a lens in the eye are provided with a specific application being for cutting a lens while contained within the capsular bag. The device has an elongate element which forms a loop. The loop is advanced into a space between the lens and the capsular bag. The device may be used with, or incorporated into, fluid handling devices such as irrigation and aspiration devices and phacoemulsification hand pieces and disposables.

In some embodiments, an apparatus can include a surgical table and an adapter coupled thereto. The adapter includes an interface structure, a first link member pivotally coupled to the interface structure at a first joint, and coupled to a second link member of the adapter at a second joint. The second link member can also be coupleable to a robotic arm via a coupling. The first joint can allow the first link member to rotate about a first axis defined in a vertical direction relative to the table top, and the second joint can allow the second link member and a robotic arm coupled thereto to move in a vertical direction relative to the table top. The first link member and the second link member collectively provide for movement of the robotic arm in at least one of a lateral, longitudinal or vertical direction relative to the table top.
